I was talking to my GF Alejandra about the 2002 Britney Spears...

I was talking to my GF Alejandra about the 2002 Britney Spears filmmmm CROSSROADS.  I’ve never seen it but I told Alejandra that I would type out what I thought it could be about based entirely on the above poster:– and what I HOPE against hope it might be about.

Ok so Britney Spears plays Katherine “katfaced– Kitty” VonMeowski

Kitty-cat-face is on a summer break from her perrrrfect University life, etc. when she takes a job to drive a car across the southern US–

she is getting a Pepsi (BECAUSE THAT IS WHO SHE IS) at a grimy road side market –she witnesses a flash of light that the other two women on the poster emerge from- chased by a giant half man/beast thing.

Britney hits the monster with her car and escapes with the new women–one of the women is badly wounded – “that one was just a soldier for the Duke”

I assume the other 2 women are Rosario Dawson–

—and maybe someone from The Craft?–like a Star trek style beaming accident that mixed the cast of the Craft into one lady. Yes? yes.

They also have cat names and tell a confused Britney to “Forget everything you ever thought you knew about werewolves” She is reluctant to believe them but Craft-lady has been hurt and is half changed into her were-self & they have to help her. Now is not the time for were cynicism BRITNEY!

As they nurse Craft-lady in a small town motel, Britney and the Dawson experience strange time and space phenomenon– Dawson explains that Were creatures have the ability to cross vast distances of space and time at will. -CROSSROADS - and that the were-so and sos who are chasing them. (also were-creatures are immortal– because of the “friends are FOREVER” line on the poster” ) are the ruling class that keep the lower class were creatures as slaves.

Britney and Dawson talk over their lives, Britney should have everything she wants but feels empty and is looking for someone real, Dawson explains that she grew up with a perfect childhood until her and her mother were captured and sold into slavery in the Were-world she escaped from. She shows Britney the markings she was branded with to show what house she worked for– and how her mother was strong but eventually gave her own life so that she and her friends could escape.

her mother was killed by the duke of ROADS. (played by the guy from the wire who looks like the skeleton of a greyhound) The title is both a play on the teleportation, life choices and that they Crossed a guy named Roads.

Eventually the Duke finds them and kills the Craft-lady and Britney lets herself be bitten so she can battle the duke (both in teleportation power Were-monster form) It’d be like the fights in the movie Jumper.  –but with a were-Jaguar Vs a Were Greyhound.

Eventually they teleport back to the Were-world and Britney and Dawson manage to team-Murder impale the Duke on the sword of a were-wolf-Were- statue atop a palace.

The movie ends with them returning to the motel to bury the craft lady. –They leave the car there and teleport off together. The battle is won.. but the war?

And that is my report on if Crossroads was a magical werewolf B movie.– thank yew

Did you go to college? For art or anything related?

I did not– It’s not advice that I would give anyone, but I dropped out of high school when I was 16. I had the advantage that my older brother went to art school for print making and my Grandfather was a professional pin up artist.  (Bill Randall)

So I was around art growing up. ( Randall died before I really knew him but my mom told me a lot about his artist life) I think I got a lot of what other people get from art school 2nd hand– I moved to NYC in my mid 20′s and fell in with a bunch of SVA students,(like the amazing Farel Dalrymple, who I’m still pals with)  talked to them a lot about what they got out of school.– I never really learned to paint past super basic watercolors and markers tho– that would’ve been nice. maybe I’ll try that soon.

I think school is good for discovering a social scene of like minded people but if you can be self motivated it might be worth it to avoid the debt. but if you can do it without getting into a hole, I bet it would be fun.

Are you going to be at New York comic con this year?

I don’t have any convention plans for the future. I’m mostly just working on making my next series, when that’s going I assume I’ll start looking into doing some bigger shows. I’ve heard good things about the NYC show and should check it oot
