Rest In Peace to the great Paul Darrow
Hello Brandon, How did you get started in comics? Like getting to work with Rob Liefeld and doing Prophet? I am trying to accomplish the same and was wondering if you had some advice.
Hey Justin,
Your work looks really cool. Do you have sequential pages up anywhere?
I got started working in the 90′s when it was more about mailing out submissions to small press companies. I think it’s different these days, you can use the internet to build up an audience independent of any publisher. -
I think the main thing is just to make finished pages and show them to people. Finished comics certainly help people who are looking for cool work to want to throw money and jobs your way.
There’s a saying about breaking into comics how you have to be either good or nice or fast– and those help, but for good or ill I’ll seen some unpleasant people who aren’t particularly good (which, granted is subjective) or productive just get work by being pushy.– Obviously you don’t want to be an asshole, but know your worth. Be confident but nice. (especially important to be good to the people who you work with)
Prophet was a blast, and it changed my view of Rob. who I never thought of as a real human before– He was always great to me and nothing but positive and supportive. I feel really lucky that I got to work on his stuff.
