Katsuhiro Otomo’s new manga (!) The Mood is Already of War 3. From a blog that also has images of Otomo’s short-story period, memorably discussed by Naoki Urasawa and Hisashi Eguchi in this interview (”Back then, there were a few manga artists being hailed as part of this movement called the New Wave, but as far as I was concerned it was all Otomo”). That youtube show that Jim Rugg and Ed Piskor do, Cartoon Kayfabe, they tried to do an episode about Otomo but they skipped to Domo since that early material is hard to find in the U.S. It’s frustrating, not getting to really understand someone like Otomo’s evolution.

Hey, so a while ago I got my dad some dr. Martins watercolors because he went to art school and also used to color comic books for Comico comics wayyy back in the day (specifically "Elementals", "Robotech", "Next Man", etc). His main worry about why he has
That’s so cool that your dad worked on those Comico books.

Coloring with Dr Martins dyes certainly isn’t the industry standard it once was - I think there’s a lot of advantages to computer coloring –speed and easy corrections if needed. Side note– One thing a lot of people in comics seem unaware of is how colors will often print darker than they look on a screen.
Personally I’d be really interested in what that style of color looked like on a new comic.
I think a problem is that too many modern comics look the same, it’d be nice to see more people try new and old things to switch up what they’re doing.

Not that I thought the 84' Dune was all that hot, but I would de-ball myself for those vintage figures
I ran into those sweet Dune toys after I looked up the Dune tag after seeing a post of people complaining about the Lynch movie on here, personally I am a HUGE fan of his version– there’s nothing else quite like it. Me and (soon to be #1 Dad)– James Stokoe, would watch it like people watch Rocky horror - high fiving whenever the “the sleeper must awaken” hand shows up.

I love the weird whisper voice overs and the sexy sex princess and Patrick Stewart holding a war pug in the middle of a war.

I wonder if recent sentiment is a combination of people being excited about the new Denis Villeneuve helmed Dune (Which I’m looking forward to, I liked his Blade Runner and I thought his Arrival was fantastic) and the Jordorowski movie – Which I feel pretty critical of– It’s really easy to call another movie shit when you wen’t able to make your version. Maybe that’s a good lesson for all art. Even if flawed something actually existing is always a step up from it not existing. (anyway thanks for the message, I think I just wanted to talk about liking Lynch’s Dunneeeeeee)

LJN’s toy line, made to accompany the 1984 movie, Dune. At the time, every movie was a potential merchandise hit after Star Wars.
