LESTER WARD RUFFNER, a writer with deep roots of his own in Arizona history,, has signed his name "Budge" for several years to a weekly column in the Prescott Courier. Member of a family migrating westward to Arizona in 1867. Ruffner spent his youthful summers on Arizona ranches and Indian reservations and twice as driver and camp tender for early expeditions of anthropologists. His later life in Prescott has revolved around interpersonal and communication associations unique to Arizona and the Southwest --as a member of the Smoki ceremonial dance group, as chairman of the Prescott Centennial Commission, as charter member and onetime sheriff of the Prescott Corral of Westerners, and a 1973 President of the Arizona Historical Society. ...more
