the business end
Part of getting ready for an art exhibit (coming up in Oct at Caplan Art Designs – @AmyCaplan1) is making sure I have a pocket full of business cards. So I’m getting new ones from www.moo.com – the new ones will look like the ones in the picture but with different images and my www.sueclancy.com website. Didn’t include my brand new twitter handle @artistclancy because I don’t want to break it off – besides you can get that from my website anyway if you want it … at any rate here we go, gently now, into the deep business end.

write err wrong
Working on some new artwork for an upcoming fine art exhibit (www.caplanartdesigns.com) … and I’ve been thinking about how a successful creative life is due to trial and error, the willingness to make a mess and be “wrong”, a commitment to practice, to play and have fun. Here’s a recent artwork on the theme titled: Err, Right or Wrong Weimeraner

zucchini inspired art
Inspiration to make a zucchini dish lead to appreciation of the green skin of the zucchini which lead to making green paper and stenciling it. Eating the zucchini casserole lead to the desire to nap…. The art above is titled “Sawing Logs” and is currently at Caplan Art Designs.

Sue Clancy illustrates poems again
In the current Section 8 magazine issue several of my artworks illustrate several poems! Yep, once again I realize that words and pictures go together like hot water and ground coffee beans.

Oh, and at the bottom of that page there’s a link to a fun interview this magazine did with me…

advice for creatives from Neil Gaiman
Since I’m a creative type – I keep a look-out for “good advice” on living the creative life well. Always have. Never know when it might be needed. I keep such advice in my sketchbooks (some gets posted on my blog at www.sueclancy.com ). Today I came across this link from Neil Gaiman (one of my favorite fellow creative types) which contains – wait for it – some very good advice: http://journal.neilgaiman.com/2006/10/important-and-pass-it-on.html

on commissions of peas
An art commission I did was delivered yesterday to it’s new happy home – along with a pdf file of how I created the artwork. The commission is titled “Preying for Peas”. The client had asked for more information about how I work – so I did a blow-by-blow pdf file for them with the help of Judy who took the photos. Well, the client, and the other people at the party yesterday found the pdf file interesting, and it seemed to add to the enjoyment of the actual artwork, so I thought to myself “Self, it might be good to post that on your website and blog.” So here it is: AboutPreyingForPeas (and on http://sueclancy.com/fine-art/)
And here below, if you haven’t clicked the above link, is an image of the commission discussed above:

Essential Art Studio Equipment
One of the best “how to be a professional artist” advice I ever got: Learn to cook! 2nd best advice: Get a rice cooker – slow cooker combo that has a timer and a “keep warm” setting. (This way dinner cooks while I work – and when dinner is done if I’m still working my food stays warm until I’m ready for it.) Here’s a pic of my essential art studio equipment.
