on sketching the Oregon Coast
Back in 2009 I had the honor of writing and illustrating an article titled “Sketching the Coast” for Oregon Coast Magazine. (The 2009 article is pictured above) Well, I just heard from an editor that they’d like me to do a new article for them!! I am excited to be working with editors who appreciate my unorthodox way of doing travel articles! Yipppeee, I get to do more sketchbook pages about the Oregon Coast! Yes, stuff like you’ve been seeing on this blog. More visual stories! Wahoo! Going to go do my happy dance!

With Dog as my Co-pilot
Recently I took a writing class with Lorna Lee. Dam* good class and I was sorry for it to end. So I decided to shamelessly promote Lorna’s books and interview her in a selfish attempt to continue gleaning pearls of wisdom about writing and living a creative life. Or if not pearls of wisdom at least more marshmallows of gooey good fun. Plus it will provide me with more stuff to illustrate. So this post is a ticklish teaser of the good things to come when you least expect it. Tee hee!
Here’s a photo of Lorna’s book “How was I supposed to know?” alongside my coffee cup.
You can get your own copy of Lorna Lee’s book on Amazon here: http://www.amazon.com/Lorna-Lee/e/B00B0XIP1M/ref=ntt_dp_epwbk_0
I’ve no idea where you can find a coffee cup like mine. Good luck with that.
Here is a link to Lorna’s website and blog: http://lornasvoice.com/
And, as hinted above, yes the fabulous future interviews with Lorna will have more drawings (like the one at the top of this post) related to the author and writing and art and animals and….
Stay tuned!

Irish eyes smiling
Flipped through my sketchbook this morning in order to make an old favorite for supper tonight. After throwing everything in the slow cooker I got to work on my creative pursuits. Until a few minutes ago I’d forgotten all about food. But right now the aroma of cooking sausage, bacon, potatoes and onions is charging into my art studio from the kitchen, grabbing my collar and pulling me to the dinner table.
Yes, of course this recipe is also in my eBook titled “Coffee Table Book” http://my.bookbaby.com/book/coffee-table-book
And yes, it was also one of the soups that inspired my current art exhibit at Caplan Art Designs www.caplanartdesigns.com

Pinker sketch
Last Wednesday I went to hear Steven Pinker speak about his book “The Sense of Style” at Powell’s books in Portland Oregon. www.powells.com and this is the sketch I did in my sketchbook while Mr. Pinker talked. The quotes are what I think I heard him say. (Errors are mine, all mine.) There was a digital slide show – so some of the quotes are from what I saw on the screen as it flashed by in a nanosecond.
Twice I’ve checked out “The Sense of Style” from my local library. Now I own a signed copy! Wahooo! I’ve found it a good resource for my artist-writer-creative-type efforts. You can get or see more about the book here: http://www.powells.com/biblio?isbn=9780143127796
Here’s Steven Pinker’s website: http://stevenpinker.com/
Pinker’s Twitter feed is fun too: https://twitter.com/sapinker

Err, art, art, art…write?

Err…
Half of being a fine artist or a writer is knowing how to fix it, make it do or when it’s time for a break.
And yes, the above artwork is currently at Caplan Art Designs http://www.caplanartdesigns.com/ – contact the gallery if interested.

Paws on the Coffee Table
My current art exhibit “Paws to Enjoy” was largely centered on my rediscovery of soup. I rediscovered soup in restaurants and I also tried making soup at home. Here is a free sampler, a downloadable pdf file titled Coffee Table Preview containing a few pages from my Coffee Table Book a 36 page eBook which contains some of the soup recipes, pages from my sketchbook, background/raw data for my art exhibit. The downloadable sampler only includes one soup recipe…. But it’s a yummy one that my slow-cooker is currently percolating for today’s artistic inspiration aka eating enjoyment. Here’s the direct link for the full book:
http://my.bookbaby.com/book/coffee-table-book
Please view both the sampler and the full book on smart phones and tablets with the Portrait Orientation Lock Setting On. Thank you – and enjoy!
