Little Graveyard auction and eye issues

Shocklines has a PC (publisher's copy) of my novelette Little Graveyard on the Prairie up for auction at eBay. Bidding is just a little over $20 at the moment. The book, you'll recall, retails for $50.

Speaking of LGOTP, Issue #62 of Cemetery Dance magazine will have a nice review of the book in it. That'll hit stands in June.

I. Am. Old. I have been having eye issues. The last eye doctor I went to kept insisting on giving me contact lenses and glasses that made me far-sighted. I finally got tired

Underworld DVD

Other than the fact my copy is laying right here beside me on the desk, how do I know Underworld: Rise of the Lycans was released on DVD today? Here are the 10 most recent searches that led people to my site:

Teacher Appreciation

Last week was Teacher Appreciation Week. Students at my school had the opportunity to stop by tables during lunches to write cards to teachers. Here are some samples of what I got:

"My favorite teacher since freshman year! ... You push me to be better because you know I can be."

"You are effin awesome!!!"

"Your (sic) the greatest teacher ever. You give the best advice with things." (Yes, I'm aware that if I really was the best teacher ever this student would have used "you're" instead of "your" but

Apathetic turds

So, all around the nation today seniors were taking the Advanced Placement Literature and Composition test. At my school, three of my students opted not to take the test, some for decent reasons, some not. Of the 21 who did take it, at least four went to sleep without finishing even half of the test. That just grinds my gears, as Peter Griffin might say.

It gets better. Mine is an inner city school. Low income. So the school offers fee waivers for almost everyone taking the AP test. Yes, these ki

Double Con Weekend Recap

It's been a busy weekend, starting on Friday, when I took the day off work to go to the OWFI annual conference. This is really the only strictly writers' conference I go to, and it's ... different. The organizers have tried doing separate tracks of programming for the beginners and the intermediate/published authors, but invariably you'll find yourself in one of the more advanced tracks and the speaker can't finish his/her program because of the newbie questions. Well, that hadn't really changed

Fan art

A member of The Wolf's Lair, my mostly unused message board, sent me some fan art he's done of Joey and Thomas. This is amazingly cool, as it's the first "fan art" I've ever seen based on my characters. I have absolutely no artistic talent at all, so I'm always in awe of people who can actually pull an image out of their heads and put it on paper. When they choose to pull an image of people I've created for my books ... Well, it's a very nice feeling.

Another one

As some of you figured out, yes, today is my birthday. Once upon a time this was such a happy thing. Now it feels like just another mile marker on the way to a hole in the ground. No, I'm not really depressed about it. I feel more ... ambivalent.

My students found out about it and my fourth period English IV class decided to have a party. Maybe it was a way to get out of doing much work, but it was still pretty nice, and I was surprised by some of the kids who brought stuff. There were cupcakes,

Conestoga 13 wrap-up, and a few other bits

I got home from Conestoga 13 this afternoon. Within an hour, I was asleep. I must be getting old. It's not like I was up that late either night I was in Tulsa. But, that's neither here nor there. As always, Conestoga was a lot of fun and a great chance to catch up with old friends, learn more about newer friends and, of course, meet new people. So, where to begin?

I once again shared a room with Adrian Simmons ( [info:] dotar_sojat). He's a fun guy. Instead of the travel bar, this year he brought a vintag

Conestoga and Carnality Ball

I'll be at Conestoga this weekend. It'll be a good time, with lots of good people, including Craig Wolf, David Lee Anderson, Carrie Jones, Brad and Sue Sinor and some of my fellow Oklahoma Speculative Fiction Syndicate members. I'd link to all of them individually, but that's too many links. Just go here to see who's attending. Sadly, Chris Fulbright and wife Angeline Hawkes won't be there this year, which pretty well sucks, but ...

... I get to see them and several others the following weekend a

Vampires

I hadn't posted anything to The Werewolf Saga site in a while, so today (technically, it's yesterday now) I sat down and waxed eloquent on the subject of vampires. Somehow the post has found it's way to LoveParaRomance's Twitter page, where it's a top post for March. Check it out here.

I really don't get Twitter. What's it all about? Do we really need to know what everybody's thinking or doing every minute? It seems to me almost like signing up to be under the eye of Big Brother. If you do it, pl
