Another older painting I recently completed. “The Magician and the Vampire” was a work-in-progress for several months, but I came back to it, working on small changes to almost the entire piece, and detail by detail, it came to life. I wasn’t entirely thrilled with it, and I wasn’t able to see what I didn’t like without putting it away, forgetting about it for four months, and start in on everything I saw with a fresh look. Happy now. This is a crop of the full piece, which I’ll post in my portfolio. I can also post the full here if you’re interested in seeing it.

As the days become longer, as we swing around our sun, headed for aphelion in July (farthest distance from the sun), and our planet’s 23.5 degree tilt is angled toward its rays, we’ll be seeing less of the constellation Orion–in normal viewing hours. I took this 30 second exposure last night around 9PM, and Orion is already moving below the trees to the southwest. That’s the Pleiades (M45) at the far right. I also happened to capture the headlights and brakelights of Alice’s car as she’s driving past to our driveway, almost home after picking up Christopher from work.

Sergeant Angua of the Ankh Morpork City Watch. She’s one of my favorite characters in Terry Pratchett’s Discworld books. Delphine Angua von Überwald is the only werewolf in the Watch–that we know of. I also have some old sketches of Vimes and Detritus, and I really want to do a series of more realistic paintings of all my favorite Watch members. http://SaltwaterWitch.com

Penny’s asleep. She’s a 14-year-old Jack Russel Terrier - Australian Herder mix. Yes, she can be an absolute terror if she wants to be–and I’m talking Hague Court level criminal activity, unauthorized covert operations, backstabbing right in front of you, turning on allies, garbage can tipping. Okay, other than a few incidents that still have to go before an international court of justice, she’s nearly perfect. I mean come on, look at that ear!
