Why did I change the opening scene of HE'S STUCK AS A SCHOOLGIRL?

Although it's been a few months since I published He's Stuck a Schoolgirl: A Transgender Novel of Sugar and Spice, I recently made some substantial changes to the opening scene and republished the book. Originally the book opened with the warlock Joe Withers in a liquor store, buying a glossy teen magazine so he can use the cover image in a spell. The clerk gave Joe a weird look for buying the magazine and Joe felt embarrassed and hurried out.
This is how the book opens now:
Joe Withers stood at the liquor store's counter, his face burning with embarrassment as he tried to avoid making eye-contact with the clerk.
Joe was buying a copy of All About Me!, a glossy magazine aimed at pre-teen girls. On the cover a cute little redhead in a schoolgirl uniform was giving the camera a melodramatic pout as she slouched beneath the weight of her heavy backpack. Beside her were the words OMG, TIME FOR BACK TO SCHOOL!!!, written in bold pink type.
It was an old issue, on sale several months out of date, but Joe didn't care. He only needed it for the cover.
Joe was 27 years old, tall and awkward and probably not quite old enough to have a daughter who would be old enough to read this magazine. As he set it down on the counter the fat, hairy clerk gave him a distinctly disapproving look.
"It's not for me," Joe said. "It's for my little sister."
He regretted it as soon as he'd said it. It sounded so obviously fake, and only made the moment more embarrassing.
The clerk laughed without smiling. Joe felt like giving up, just running out of the store and leaving the copy of All About Me! behind him on the counter.
But then Joe remembered that he was a powerful warlock now and he didn't have to put up with stupid crap like this anymore. He'd studied the ancient texts and learned their secrets. (Well, some of their secrets, anyhow.) He could just do a quick Obi Wan on this clerk, scramble his brains for a second and walk out of the store without even having to pay for the magazine. Joe didn't have much experience with persuasion spells yet, but this would be a good chance to practice.
Joe held up his hand, speaking in a calm, steady voice. First he said the persuasion incantation, a few words of ancient Akkadian. Then he spoke the command.
"You're going to give me this magazine," he said. "For free. And after I leave you won't remember that I was ever here..."
The clerk's eyes went hazy, his jaw slack. The spell was actually working! Joe held his breath, giddy with excitement. His spells hardly ever worked right on the first try.
But then the clerk looked wobbly on his feet and Joe hesitated, worrying this guy was about to fall over. Had Joe done the incantation right? He only wanted to confuse the clerk, not leave him as a drooling idiot.
"I..." The clerk looked kind of sick. "I'm going to give you..."
Joe lowered his hand and the clerk stumbled forward, steadying himself against the counter. The clerk blinked a few times and his eyes regained focus.
"Come on, buddy," he said. "Quit screwing around. Do you want your little girl magazine, or don't you?"
Without looking at the clerk again Joe slapped a few bucks down on the counter and left the store, not even waiting for his change. Then he hurried out to his car and took off down the street, the tires of his old Honda squealing.
Why did I change it? I realized it'd work better if we had some indication at the beginning that Joe has real magic powers and he's not just delusional. This way we learn a lot about Joe in a hurry He's reckless and selfish enough to try a spell on a stranger but he panics and stops when he realizes he could actually harm the clerk.
Once a book is out there I try to resist pulling a George Lucas and going back to revise everything. But some things I just can't leave alone, and this was one of them. I think the book works better like this. Hopefully you'll agree.

New Blog: OVID COUNTY ENIGMAS

Readers of my eBooks know that they chronicle the many strange and kinky transformations taking place in Ovid County. One anonymous, intrepid citizen has started publishing Ovid County Enigmas, a blog where he is trying to expose what he believes to be a sinister conspiracy to rob Ovid County's men of their masculinity.
First up he examines the mysterious happenings at the Dove's Nest School for Girls, where he is convinced the county's most violent criminals are being taken and transformed into pretty young schoolgirls in crisp uniforms.
Is the blogger behind Ovid County Enigmas just a lone crank? Or could he be the one person who sees the truth?

Alt cover #2 for My Wife Changed Me Into Her Lover's Penis: The Ultimate Cuckold Fantasy

Here's another cover I designed and then rejected for My Wife Changed Me Into Her Lover's Penis: The Ultimate Cuckold Fantasy. This one was also sexy but just a little too penis-y. I have to remind myself sometimes that not everybody is (proudly!) bisexual like me, and for a lot of straight guys a great big bulging wang on the cover of a book is an automatic NO.
But still... it's such a very pretty bulging wang, isn't it?

Alt cover #1 for My Wife Changed Me Into Her Lover's Penis: The Ultimate Cuckold Fantasy
I design my own covers, and sometimes I go through quite a few designs before I hit on the final one. I went through many, many different designs for My Wife Changed Me Into Her Lover's Penis: The Ultimate Cuckold Fantasy, and I thought it'd be fun to post a few of them over the coming days and explain what I liked about them and why they didn't end up making the cut.

I thought this one had an unusual, eye-catching design and was pretty sexy... but this is a cuckolding and transformation kink book and this rejected cover is so beefcake-y that it would probably appeal more to a gay audience.
A lot of my rejected designs for this one had a sexy male body front and center, before I realized that even if the book is about a guy who is turned into a penis, the real thrill of it is the idea of him being so utterly humiliated by his wife. So the cover I chose featured a sexy man and woman in a passionate clinch, and I think that was the way to go.
The final design is probably my most mainstream cover design ever. I tend to like covers where the illustration is the main focus, but looking around at the biggest erotica titles I've noticed that they tend to focus mostly on the title (almost always with a sans serif font) and the illustration is the secondary focus. So I tried that here, and I think it looks fine and it does make my book blend in more with the other erotica titles out there. But I'm not sure if blending in is what I really want to do...

NEW EBOOK: My Wife Changed Me Into Her Lover's Penis: The Ultimate Cuckold Fantasy

Have you ever fantasized about your wife making love to another man, while you're forced to sit by helplessly and watch? Peter daydreamed about it for years, but his dream becomes a nightmare when he takes his sweet, modest wife Jenna to see the bizarre and kinky act of a stage magician known as The Great Armand. Jenna leaves the show a changed woman, a cruel and slutty "hotwife," and the mischievous magician casts a spell on Peter and transforms him into the penis of Jenna's new lover. Peter finds himself trapped as another man's genitals, forced to do his new master's bidding and satisfy Jenna's desires.
Mindi Flyth's latest novelette may be her darkest, sexiest story so far. My Wife Changed Me into Her Lover's Penis: The Ultimate Cuckold Fantasy follows a man as his flesh is transformed and he becomes another man's manhood. You'll be there for all of Peter's terror, his humiliation, his every tingle and throb on the way to this tale's explosive and deeply satisfying climax.
This story contains adult themes and is intended for mature readers. Word count approximately 14,300.
(Note that in addition to the genital transformation there's some fun stuff for fans of mind control and breast expansion!)

More Kinky Transformation Haikus
Three more from my Twitter account:
His wish was simple.
His own sweet babe in his arms.
Whoops... he's a mommy!
"Make me a meal, bitch!"
Her spell shrank him to pea-size.
She made him a snack.
Billy sold his soul.
Fame! Looks! Loved by countless girls!
*Poof* He's a Barbie.

Kinky Transformation Haikus
      She wanted huge tits.
But she misworded the spell.
Now she's one big boob.
"Let me in your pants!"
He found out she was a witch.
Now he hugs her curves.
The genie obeyed.
I wished to be Kate's lover.
It turns out, Kate's gay!
This girl suit is great.
But... I can't find the zipper...
I can't take it off!
Edited to add: I later found out that at least one reader thought the "pants" one meant the guy had changed into her twin. What I meant was that he literally became her pants! Being transformed into clothing and worn isn't one of the more common fantasies, I guess.

REVIEW: The Hit Girl is a fun transgender age regression movie!
Although The Hit Girl has been out since 2013 and I've enjoyed many of director James Ward's other projects, I only just got around to renting this movie now.
I loved it! Fans of magical age regression and transgender transformation stories definitely won't be disappointed, because this film serves up a few of our favorite tropes and makes them seem fresh again. (There is actually a valid plot reason for the transformed guy to wear a sexy schoolgirl outfit, for instance.) It reminded me of my novel He's Stuck as a Schoolgirl, in the sense that it was kind of a kinky TG AR story but also kind of a kids' adventure comedy following these two girls around while they argue and hang out. Both my book and The Hit Girl are TG AR stories obviously influenced by snarky 1980s John Hughes teen movies, although Ward's film also throws a little James Bond espionage in there too and somehow makes it work.
The Hit Girl is a fun and surprisingly sweet movie, and the characters have more depth than you'd usually expect in a high concept, gender-bender comedy. Even some of the minor characters and villains have surprising texture to them. It is violent at times, but then again this IS a story about a pro killer and we're not talking about a lot of gore or anything. There is some dark humor here, so go in knowing that while it's a very cute, funny movie it does have an edge and it's not just rainbows and fluffy kittens.
I could definitely see some improved technique since Ward's previous movie, Identity Theft. While I did enjoy Identity Theft, this movie had sharper scripting and cinematography, and a more professional sheen to it overall. The two lead actresses were great, and I was especially impressed by Ella Bowen, the actress who played Jessica. (Minor spoiler warning:) There's a scene where she sings, and she has to play a man in the body of a teenage girl, singing a song well, while being SURPRISED that she can sing like that. That is a hell of an acting challenge, and she totally sold it.
This film is available for rent on Amazon and Youtube, and I strongly suggest that anybody who enjoys my stuff should give this movie a look. It's a lot of fun, and I'm really looking forward to seeing what Ward does next! (Dare we hope for a sequel?)
