Some New Stuff Here!
Things are developing nicely here at the Brom Bones Books website. I’ve got the Ghost Hunter Hall of Fame about how I want it — with portraits of the inductees and links to articles I’ve written about many of them. I’ve added a few inductees, too, and one Honorable Mention!
I’ve transferred the Chronological Bibliography of Early Occult Detectives over from my old site and made some improvements. First, I split the very long list into two lists, one for the 1800s and one for the early 1900s. Second, I’ve tried to make it more phone-friendly in terms of its illustrations of occult detective characters. (The Legacy of Ghost Hunter Fiction bibliography is available, too, but I’m still going to tweak that with portraits of many of the authors whose work is listed there.)
I added a page filled with sample ghost reports, so that people curious about Spectral Edition: Ghost Reports from U.S. Newspapers, 1865-1917 can see what those articles originally looked like. I also offer a gallery of illustrations that — on rare occasion — went with some of those reports.
I don’t have much at the Brom Bones Books Youtube channel yet, but I’m working on adding more videos of me reading those Spectral Edition ghost reports. Here’s an example:
I probably won’t have the official “ribbon-cutting” for this Brom Bones Books site until I’m ready to re-release Help for the Haunted: A Decade of Vera Van Slyke Ghostly Mysteries, but there are still plenty of rooms and corridors for you to explore here. Have fun. Oh — and watch out for ghosts!

Welcome to the Brom Bones Books website!
[image error]2018 promises to be an important year in terms of my becoming a self-published author and editor. Spectral Edition: Ghost Reports from U.S. Newspapers, 1865-1917 was published in October of last year, and I made that the premier volume from Brom Bones Books (BBB). However, if all goes according to plan, this year will see three new books of mine released by BBB.
The first is The Lost Limericks of Edgar Allan Poe, and it’s already available at Amazon and Barnes & Noble. This is a collection of 100 limericks inspired by the work, life, and spirit of Edgar Allan Poe. Many of the limericks are humorous, some are spooky, and a few are serious. Poe’s fans will especially enjoy the book, but those wishing to learn more about the great author’s less popular works and his unusual life might find the footnotes useful.
The second will be the re-release of Help for the Haunted: A Decade of Vera Van Slyke Ghostly Mysteries, 1899-1909. You can read more about that book and the forthcoming series on this page.
I wrote both of those books, but the third BBB volume is one I edited. Entranced by Eyes of Evil: Tales of Mesmerism and Mystery features fiction about sinister hypnotists written by Edgar Allan Poe, Louisa May Alcott, Arthur Conan Doyle, Ambrose Bierce, and others. This is the first of what I’m hoping is a long series called The Phantom Traditions Library. This series will be made up of quirky genres of fiction that were popular in the 1800s and early 1900s. Learn more about that on this page.
2018 is also the year I’m launching this BBB website. It will have many of the features that were introduced on The Merry Ghost Hunter blogsite. The Chronological Bibliography of Early Occult Detectives, the Ghost Hunter Hall of Fame, and more resources will find their home here now. You’ll also find some fresh treats, such as the Old Phantoms with New Captions page. My plan is to blog a bit less and focus a bit more on putting out entertaining and informative books. That’s why I’ve started this new site.
But I have saved a spot for news updates and research discoveries. I’ll keep in touch, in other words. In the meantime, feel free to wander around the new site!
