San Francisco Book Review- 5 Stars
The San Francisco Book Review just reviewed my book. Here is an excerpt:
"Cate Campbell Beatty’s engaging and harrowing debut novel is a new and wonderful dystopian story. Donor 23 is very similar to the Matched trilogy and Delirium trilogy, along with a hint of The Hunger Games. However, Donor 23 offered so much more. Joan, while mirroring Katniss Everdeen, was more her own person…Joan was intelligent, athletic, independent and determined. She was absolutely a heroine I could cheer for all the way."

Starred Review from Blue Ink Reviews
Donor 23 just received a "Starred Review" (the highest) from Blue Ink Reviews, which said in part:
"Paced at breakneck speed and utterly readable, the storyline is a highly palatable fusion of suspense thriller and post-apocalyptic travelogue--with a little romance thrown in. But the novel's real power comes in its thematic exploration of how inane social biases can mean the difference between prosperity and poverty, and even life and death. Entertaining and enlightening, this novel is every bit as good as The Hunger Games and Divergent series."

Forced organ donation not entirely fictional!
Forced organ donation is in the news: “The international spotlight is increasingly focused on the alleged practice by China of harvesting organs from ethnic minority groups. Speaking to journalists, a member of the minority Falun Gong recalled her experience after her arrest: ‘On the day that we were transferred from the detention center to the labor camp, the person we saw, to our surprise, was not the police guard but a doctor. We were taken to an unknown place where a doctor was waiting for us and to interrogate us about our medical history.’”
Wow… eerily familiar to Donor 23.
