Jericho Mathers' children think he's losing his mind in this new psychological thriller inspired by The Crane Wife
CHAPTER 1
Jericho Mathers rolled out the crick in his neck, before shifting his ladders from the side to the rear of the house. The work had begun in September, he’d worked to finish each elevation in turn, replacing sections of rotten boarding. It was now November 2nd, the latest he’d ever completed. Next time, he vowed, the maintenance cycle would start earlier.

The Sister on FREE Amazon promotion 24 hours only!
It's always a thrill to gain a good write-up. Here's one of my favourite American reviews:
"The author didn't care to explain what was happening. It was the story, and you simply had to follow along. We see characters that seem to be major ones, only to watch them relegated to minor roles. We jump around. We follow subplots that seem major - to be the heart of the story, only to find they are not...and not always what they seem.
And then it happened. Somewhere about 52% of the novel I could no longer set it down. I had to, of course, but I found it difficult and could not wait to open it back up again. You know you've got something special when you stay up later and later before putting it away for the night. And then...gasp...I began stealing moments at work to read it. :)
This novel is a major achievement. It's the kind of book that if the author spent their entire life writing it and then wrote nothing else - it would be okay. Understandable even. How one person did something this...involved, this EPIC, is incredible to me.
In the beginning I complained to my wife that the book was long and I had no idea where it was going. In the end, I couldn't shut up about how brilliant it was. Do yourselves a favor and stay on the ride. Don't get off! There has never been another story like this one."

Echoes of a distant time.
Dad was still alive when I started the novel version of the Don’t Turn on the Light. He read the first few chapters sitting on my sofa, about a month before he died.
So much has happened in between. The river of life flows on.
The other night I was listening to a song called 1971. The lyrics got me thinking about that year. What could I recall of that time? I remembered I'd been to a Pink Floyd concert - with Dad. I wasn't allowed on my own - mum worried about me beco...

Extracted from an early interview with Max
The Sister complicated? It's like a small town. You have to live there a while before you get to know what's going on, but once you connect, there are several levels. Mainstream and underground. It's like getting introduced to a bunch of people at a party. At first, you struggle with their names. After a while, it's like you've known them forever. The Sister is like that, once you get through the introductory scenes. I always felt if the reader was able reach that...

The ghost in the machine
A lot of people believe in ghosts. Me included, within certain parameters. I've been lucky enough to have experienced the manifestations that 'genuine' phenomena produce. On several occasions, I've had people with me who saw or felt the same things. Mostly, I'm a debunker. There's usually a simple explanation if one cares to look. However, the majority of people flee at first contact!
I worked alone in a house which seemed to possess an atmosphere of stark dread....

An Interview with Max China
Q: When did you first start writing?
A: Like most people, I’ve always written something from time to time over the years, and I first said I wanted to be a writer when I was seventeen, but life gets in the way.
I started creative writing seriously, about five years ago.
Q: Do you remember the first story you ever wrote?
A: I do indeed. I was around ten years of age and doing a paper round - whether that would be allowed these days or not, I don’t know - but there was a huge old...
