It is said that everyone has a book inside them, and Max has wanted to write his since he was seventeen. It took a long time to get around to it, but now he's finding it hard to stop.

His debut novel, The Sister, hit the UK Kindle top 100 chart soon after release in late January 2014, peaking at no 81, something he'd never thought possible, except in his dreams. It's still selling.
The book led to a listing in the Top 50 Crime Writers to Watch in 2014 and also received a Gold Medal award from HarperCollins site Authonomy, earlier this year.

His second, The Life and Times of William Boule, is an action, adventure, crime thriller, and follows the lives of several characters introduced in The Sister. The story is complete in its own right - yo

Hi Nina,
Most of the players in my books originate from dreams, nightmares and people-watching. Certain behaviour patterns will attract my interest, (a lone woman crying on a park bench...a man stomping up a garden path with murder in his eyes...), and I'll ask myself, "What's your story?" I usually know straight away if I have someone I can build on.
The Sister grew out of an encounter I had with a woman I'd met in my twenties. She returned to haunt my nights years later, and when she did, I realised I had the bones of a story. Once I had that, the main characters seemed to take on lives of their own.
Thanks for taking an interest and I hope you enjoyed the story.

“In today’s society, we cosset and care for our children on the one hand and then think nothing of allowing them out into the wide-open spaces of the internet from the privacy of their bedrooms, with little control, or supervision. Our children are ill equipped – because they’re not ready for it – to deal with the predators that stalk the pages of cyberspace, dressed up like the wolf in Little Red Riding Hood, hiding behind fake photographs and false identities. If we allow the media and other entities to continue to encourage our children to grow up too soon, we’ll be taking part in an experiment the likes of which...’ He looked down at the ledge behind the lectern, picked up the water jug and topped his glass up, before continuing, ‘the likes of which I don’t think we’ve ever seen before.”

“No story runs alone. Always, it travels in the company of others.

Atrament Speaks”
C. McDonald

“Go placidly amid the noise and the haste, and remember what peace there may be in silence. As far as possible without surrender, be on good terms with all persons. Speak your truth quietly and clearly, and listen to others, even the dull and ignorant; they too have their story. Be yourself. Especially do not feign affection. Neither be cynical about love – for in the face of all aridity and disenchantment it is perennial as the grass. Take kindly the counsel of the years, gracefully surrendering the things of youth. Nurture strength of spirit to shield you from misfortune. But do not distress yourself with imaginings. Many fears are born of fatigue and loneliness. Beyond a wholesome discipline, be gentle with yourself. You are a child of the universe no less than the trees and the stars; you have a right to be here. And whether or not it is clear to you, no doubt the universe is unfolding as it should. Therefore be at peace with God, whatever you conceive Him to be, and whatever your labours and aspirations, in the noisy confusion of life keep peace with your soul. With all its sham, drudgery and broken dreams, it is still a beautiful world.”
