DAY 67 - Pick Up The Phone, Hollywood...
...Truth is callin'!
Welcome my wonderful readers!
When it comes to storytelling, Hollywood screws up a lot more than they succeed. From productions based on original material to prequels, sequels, and remakes. It's no secret that most of the stories coming out of Tinsletown are rehashed over and over again. Cliched crap. Starting with the blueprint, the screenplay.
Lately, the flicks that have been getting on my nerves can be found in the genre of horror. Classics that start out as great movies, eventually falling into the hands of foolish producers, who then end up hiring unworthy writers, and before you know it there's a bunch of shitty films based on what started off as something so brilliant.
Horror generates such unfortunate outcomes more so than others. Candyman, Final Destination, Hellrasier, A nightmare On Elm Street, Chainsaw Massacre, etc. It's like these studios are oblivious to the fact that their egos are destroying their franchises. They act like they're so good, making themselves unapproachable to anyone who isn't already part of their corrupt crowd, which, in the end, comes back to bite them in the ass.
They hand off these great assets they have to those who end up turning gold into straw, which ultimately becomes lost revenue.
Sure they end up making their production costs back from DVD sales and distribution rights, but those numbers could be soooo much higher if the product was actually good.
I'm not one to criticize without backing up my statements with truth. So here it goes. Three examples of how I would make said horror stories great again...
1) A Nightmare On Elm Street - When I was growing up nothing was more cinematically cool to me than Freddy Krueger. And I loved learning about some of the origins to the story. Well, for the most part. Some of the content would be contradicted in sequels, but I really liked the story line that had Krueger's mother, Amanda, as a nun, who had been raped by a bunch of crazies while accidently left alone over night in an asylum.
Sadly, New line couldn't keep the franchise going strong, and it pretty much died out with 1991's Freddy's Dead: The Final Nightmare. But then in 2010 the decided to remake the original.
HUGE MISTAKE!!!
Crap breeds crap. Every aspect of this film sucked!
What should they have done...?
Instead of being guilty of molesting the kids of Elm Street, which is why the parents burned Krueger alive, it should have all been a big mistake. He has a sweet and innocent relationship with the kids, then is *falsely* accused of molestation, is convicted in the court of public opinion, and is burned alive. So saddening... So tragic... The audience now roots for Freddy. They understand his pain and anguish, and feels a sense of justice when he takes his revenge.
Candyman - In the first one, Helen, the main character, is killed, in turn shocking the audience. Then, at the end, brilliantly, she returns when her name is called, leaving us with the understanding that she has gained the same after-life power as Candyman.
But they had to go fuck it up. The sequel was ok, (the origins part) but all others sucked.
What should they have done...?
HELEN!!!
Should have brought her back!
Texas Chainsaw Massacre - The original was one of the greatest disturbing films of all time, with a handful of crap to follow.
What should they have done...?
The origins of Leatherface!
Some piss-poor attempts have been made to give a little history to this iconic psycho, including the most recent, Texas Chainsaw 3D. LAME! Such a missed opportunity! Take us into Leatherface's world, from childhood to the picking up of the chainsaw. WHY does he do what he does?
The secret to horror is empathy. I'll be displaying such later this year with The Mirrored Staircase Trilogy. (http://fundanything.com/en/campaigns/...)
And lastly, what happened to the T & A the horror genre was famous for?! Not a single nude/sex scene in the last Nightmare, Chainsaw, and so many others! These types of scenes add to the adrenaline-pumping visceral experience the audience loves!
Pick up the phone, Hollywood. Truth is callin'!
See you tomorrow:)

DAY 137 - Destined
Welcome my wonderful readers!
Good to be back after that hiatus I had to take. But don't worry, I kept busy-LOL! (Adding new content to my website, finishing up my latest literary work, etc.) Not much has changed in the world these past couple of weeks, so we'll get right into today's news...
My latest novella, Destined, is now available! This is actually book #1 of The Book of Truths Quintet. Five novellas that are richly philosophical, each with its own set of characters and storyline. All linked by the mysterious and awe-inspiring character of Omit and his Book of Truths. For a more in-depth look at this quintet, (book covers and descriptions of each) check them out here on my facebook author page...
https://www.facebook.com/RicoLamoureu...
And now for an exclusive offer for YOU, my wonderful readers! As well as a few interesting tidbits about Destined that you'll also only find here...!
First off, for the next 24 hours, you can get a copy of Destined (instant download) at 50% off! Time is starting now, so click on over before it's too late...!

...Got your copy? Cool! And thanks so much for your support! I'm sure it's a story you soon won't forget!
And now for the few tidbits on Destined...
1) I first wrote the story as a screenplay, back when I was running around the maze of Hollywood. So while reading it, if you get the sense that it would make a great movie, now you know that it was originally intended for such!
Even after I stopped running in circles around the Hollywood Hamster Wheel I knew this story was so special that I just couldn't toss it into the what-could-have-been box of screenplays, and so I adapted my own work, and now here it is, released out into the world as if DESTINED!
2) John and Gloria Borelli, the two main characters of Destined, are actually named after my grandparents!
3) I've always been captivated by the world of Titanic, and as you will see when you read Destined, I pay a little homage to it with John and Gloria's story:)
4) I only got the idea for The Book of Truths Quintet when I was adapting Destined from screenplay to novella.
5) As you will find when you reach the end of Destined, I have included a substantial excerpt from book #2 that you won't find anywhere else!
So there you have it! You saved half off on your copy of this novella by purchasing it now, and you got to know a little behind-the-story secrets!
See you tomorrow:)
