CHILD STONE SWAG for my SPECIAL Children of Stone Friends.
In my series Children of Stone
(Books 1 & 2 are out & available now) a small Child Stone filled with wisdom and power changes the lives of those who receive one.
Maybe the one I make for you won't do that, but it will be pretty and useful.
I make every single one and NO TWO bookmarks are alike.
When I make each one, I try to contemplate and add something of your personality in the crafting of your bookmark.
WANT ONE? Here's several ways to get one. You don't have to do all of them...just one.
1. Buy a print copy of either or both books (need proof if the purchase is online) or buy directly from me for an autographed one!
2. READ the book and write a (hopefully good) review.
3. Engage me in conversation on all postings, share my postings and ads. BE ACTIVE SUPPORT.
4. You may also win these in Takeover games, when I participate!

THE MAKING OF A GOOD VILLAIN
April 25, 2015
Mary R. Woldering
Yesterday I read an article posted on my Google+ site about Mental Illness and the fact that murderers or other sorts of villains in the media and in novels are often discovered to have a mental illness which fuels their particular evil..
In my novel series Children of Stone, I've developed a great villain. He is admired and even loved by those around him for his great intellect, power, wealth, and his ability to move and manipulate support behind the scenes. What is less well known is that he has had complete control of Kemet for decades, quietly getting rid of any threats to his status. I took him from a real person, but added much after I had meditated upon his character.
Prince Hordjedtef, son of Khufu and Count of Nekhen was considered the Albert Einstein, Steve Jobs, and Ernest Hemingway (all rolled into one) He was actually second in line to be king, but after his brother Kawab's sudden death, his sister threw her support behind a different brother.
SPURNED, he decided to become the greatest mind and did. A fragment of his writing exists and there is evidence much of his other work was plagarized by later scholars.
He was loved and even worshipped as a god by other priests after he died. Then, his tomb was defaced.
TO ME HE WAS IRRESISTABLE Think of a man set to be king and passed by, deciding to control or destroy whoever ruled until the day he died. Incredibly wise, he decided the wisdom of the universe belonged to him too. You could understand his darkness.
When Marai arrives, an unwashed outsider in search of wisdom with a gift of the Children of Stone (and their powers) the elder prince sees only a threat he will not be able to control.
He has no choice but to destroy Marai but to do it in a way that will not be suspect.
MENTAL ILLNESS; Or is it something else seen commonly in politicians and heads of companies? You decide!

Going Forth By Day (Children of Stone, #2)
Announcing the release of Going Forth By Day (Children of Stone, #2)
Shu lifts me up,
the Souls of On set up a stairway for me in order to reach the Above,
and Nut puts her hand on me
just as she did for Asar on the day when he died
...Pyramid Texts, inscribed on the walls of King Unas tomb 5th Dynasty c. 2345 BC
Marai, a former shepherd who discovered a fallen 'star' and was gifted with amazing abilities by the unearthly Children of Stone, has been separated from those he loves. Kept apart by forces seeking to control all of them, they must independently grow to understand their own powers while continuing their journey to wisdom. Will they be reunited? Will Marai rise up and begin to Go Forth By Day? Will those who care for him survive without his guidance and love?
Going Forth By Day, the second book in the Children of Stone series, is the story of Marai's companions, Ariennu, Deka, and Naibe-Ellit. Through their involvement in the lives of the royalty of ancient Khemet, new alliances form, loyalties shift, and the comfortable lives of some are shaken to their core. Blending history, ancient literature, mythology, classic archetypes, and personal inspiration, Woldering takes the reader on a speculative and emotional journey through the ancient world with detailed and thought-provoking characters whose stories weave themselves into the tapestry of history.

Listopia MESS
I'm asking all of my friends to help me get my book Children of Stone - Voices in Crystal on as many lists as you think are appropriate.
I can't do it myself. It seems that the search engine can't find my book because
I WROTE IT RATHER THAN READ IT so it's not on MY list.
Even when I put the book in by ISBN number it comes up NO BOOK
I copy the link or the Author and it says NO BOOK

LUCID DREAM
Much of Book 2 Going Forth by Day is the result of one or more of the characters dreaming a "controlled" or LUCID dream. My definition of this is a catchall for experiences which presented themselves as past lives, astral projection, time manipulation and travel, channeling, remote viewing and generic trances. The Children of Stone Series was born out of notes and pictures created from scenes and images of a group of godlike people in the ancient world. Were they past lives? I'll never know for sure...but they were SOMETHING.
So one of the major gifts the Children of Stone give is the ability to LITERALLY walk into another person's life as a silent witness...able to see, but not allowed to cause influence. This happened in the mid 1990's
I'm in a quiet place, resting. Something wakes me. I get up and realize the bed I left is not my warm waterbed, but a lashed cane bed with a pale coverlet and a padded thing at the head. I'm female and I have curly shoulder length hair. My skin is a darker olive color. I'm naked, but I quickly grab a patterned shawl and wrap it around my hips. A full moon creates light in a room. Other people are sleeping there. I can hear them breathing. Someone wakes...another woman. She whispers a name but it's not "Mary". It sounds more like "Eyarri"
I turn, hoping the person will speak again. I'm waking up. Now I see my self walking on a wall. The sky and earth are red. A crowd is cheering and screaming "Marai, Marai!" I'm walking behind a big man wearing what looks like chrome or silver armor that matches his hair. I hear the name the woman spoke fade into Yarthinnu, or Eyarianu. I blink. I'm in my own bedroom.
I know the name now. My SCA (Society for Creative Anachronism) name was Yaraddin or YAR...

Another Vision
A hollow crystalline shape composed of two triangular forms materialized in Marai's constant stream of visions. Set tip to tip, these moved together and through each other forming another different and more complex shape with many emerging shapes. He'd seen it in his studies as a beginning equation for the Flower of Life, the symbol of the divine feminine as it intersected the divine masculine and formed unity or oneness. The final shape rolled towards him and halted as if he was expected to step into it. Although instinct told him to avoid it, the sight of heavenly prisms like the interior of the vessel of the Children of Stone was too beautiful to resist. Soon, the sharp, harsh edges of the shape softened and the shape began to resemble the glowing sleep pod in which he had rested for so many years with the Children. As if he felt all of the passion of Naibe's breath on his face when they loved, Marai felt himself drifting above his own body and settling into the double shape. It enclosed him and transformed into a flying throne inside two wheels. That image triggered another deeper memory.
The weightlessness he had felt in the faraway sleep pod all those years ago returned to the forefront of his thoughts. A spinning sensation overtook him and all care suddenly fell away. Rays of light sifted through the shape, bending through and inside him, and then streamed out of the other side of his body in rainbow colors. He felt as if he had grown large enough to incorporate all of life and time itself in his heart.
“O beautiful one, Asher-ellit;
Immaculate one of the goddesses,
Torch of Heaven and earth,
Radiance of all the lands,
Goddess ‘Lady of Heaven',
First-begotten of Sin,
First-born of Ningal,
Sweet sister of Shamas
O Asher-Anu, you rule the heavens;
O Queen of Morning and Evening Sky,"
“Come bless me this starry night.
Shine for one who begs to serve you.
Come bless me this starry night."
When he sang his song to her as he lay dreaming...he understood that he had indeed been blessed.Children of Stone: Voices in Crystal

HOWL - a poem
I am One
In the City of the Dead - you will find me
Staring green fire-eyes back at you from the dark pit of my empty soul
Staring at those outside these silent walls
HOWL
All has been taken from me ... It always has been...
Abandoned by me ... as useless
Or deserted
All self is empty.
HOWL
I had grown fierce and hard
Thrilled by death, torture, blood
The madness of it when I tasted it's warm saltiness
A warrior god.
Goddess you matched my rage and my passion
Your taste for blood outmatched my own.
It burned
But I could not love you
I could only know lust and conquest... which is my nature
In my wrath and anguish
You could not save me any more than I could save you
So you returned to dance in God's eye,
becalmed by the wine of our acts
I await you faithfully (Like the dog that I am)
In this City of Decay
A prince, never a king... a way shower, a guide ...
HOWL
My man-face grows tired
I ache for your redemption
That may never come....
Leave me picking at the bones of the damned
In this place of Decay
HOWL

Book 2 teaser
Book 2 Going Forth by Day (Chapter 2 Excerpt)
Setup: The women in Marai's life have been separated from him. In order to gain control of the Children of Stone (which the women have been guarding, they are told they are being taken to him:
"I see," The elder of the three women haltingly replied. "I'll get the others." She set the full jar down by the well, then broke into a run toward the steps up to her apartment.
"Deka! Naibe! Get Up! Get Up! It's time! He's here!" She cried out in her native Kina-Ankht language as she clambered up the worn sun brick steps. Deka poked her head out of the door as Ariennu came in, then turned to see her go straight to her basket of things. She dug deep in the folded cloth shifts and drew out a pretty carved box. When she took a quick look, she saw all the Children of Stone still tucked safely inside.
Is it really time? Will we see Marai today? Her thoughts sighed out to them. The Children of Stone glimmered a hushed response.
They have come.
Take all here but eight
You will choose
Take those apart from the others.
Remember how to live
It is time.
Remember, Remember Wise One
How to live!
Ariennu didn't like the way the Children's message sounded at all. She slapped the box shut.
"Is it time?" Naibe sat up suddenly, no longer slow and sleepy. "Did Marai speak to you in the night? Did he tell you something?" She quickly fastened her shift and patted her braided loops of hair, lamenting for a moment that they had become so badly scrambled as she slept.
"The priest who came to us before has come back." Deka replied, then stuck her head out of the window. In a moment she turned back into the apartment. "This time he's come with men!"
Naibe didn't need to read the horror in the dark woman's expression. Before she could cry out in distress, Ariennu sighed, and slid down the wall with the box of stones in her hands.
"I saw Marai in a dream last night. Maybe I just felt him reaching for us." She sat, with her eyes briefly shut, then opened the box quietly one more time.
Is everything alright? She sent her thoughts through her hands and into the stones. Once again the Children pulsed faintly in recognition.
Truth waits for all
There we must go
The ones who do not know us
Must not touch the eight
That see...
Keep these safe
Keep these hiddenMary R. Woldering

Genre Change for Children of Stone Series
Choosing a genre has been difficult for me. I'm really not an all apples or oranges kind of writer.
At first I stated the book was a Science Fiction book because there are inter-dimensional creatures as central characters and they DO have a dimensional craft (sort of). They are magical creatures who have been influencing Earth for eons, but now their mission has changed to one that is more Paranormal than Space Opera-ish.
I'm now calling the series PARANORMAL because in addition to the spirit forms of the aliens there are wizards, priests, arcane happenings, shape-shifters, astral travel, trances, auto-writing, remote viewing and a whole laundry list of things not understood by the five animal senses.
It's still HISTORICAL FICTION in the sense that I draw on actual legend, the Bible, the works of Herodotus about Egypt, conventional and unconventional archaeology and what we have found of ancient literature and religion. I have characters based on actual people from the 4th/5th dynasty of Egypt. I also have characters found NOWHERE in history.
I'm also considering the series HISTORICAL FANTASY because I fill in the gaps of what might be generally known with my OWN paranormal research on the era through book/internet work and trance channeling or dreams.
I could even give it the tag PARANORMAL ROMANCE because there is a dynamic romantic connection between several of the characters.
There are even some slight elements of CRIME DRAMA, but I wouldn't go quite that far.
Read the books and decide for yourself! I write to be discovered and enjoyed.
Coming soon, Second Edition, e-book and Book 2: Going Forth By Day
