Welcome YA author Cat Kalen!
Hi all,
I'd like to say thank you to my good friend Lisa for hosting me on her blog this weekend. I'm very excited to be here and to tell you all about my YA debut Pride's Run.
Let me tell you a bit about me first. I write adult romance under two different pen names, Cathryn Fox and Taylor Keating. While I love telling those stories, I've always wanted to try my hand at young adult. Perhaps it's because I have two teenagers and I wanted to write something they'd enjoy reading.
Since I love writing werewolf stories, even in my adult books, I thought why not try it for the teenage crowd? When I sat down and thought about the story I wanted to write, I knew I wanted it to be dark, edgy, and full of danger as well as passion. I wanted to write about trust, sacrifice, death, and about a strong heroine finding love for the first time while she found out who she really was. And that's exactly what I did in Pride's Run.
I've never had a character speak to me quite the way Pride has. Pride is a tortured heroine who has been kept caged her whole life and her struggles touched me deeply. Not only did I care for her, I ached for her and there were times when I was telling her story that my heart broke for her. I put her in grave danger and gave her the inner strength to watch her fight her way out. Pride is my heroine and she never once let me down!
Pride's Run is an upper Young Adult story with crossover appeal to adults. So not only will your teens want to read it, you'll want to read it too.
Here's what reviewers are saying:
"Pride's Run – a YA paranormal action and romance. Pride is a werewolf who has grown up in captivity, forced to kill for her drug lord master, forced to turn on family and friends just to survive. Pride is finally pushed over the edge and decides to escape – it is then that she meets Logan, a boy that sees more than the killer inside her. But most of all this is the story of a girl who has to come to trust herself, to believe in herself as a hero, instead of as a failure." N.Cassidy
"Pride's Run is a dark and gritty read. Pride is faced with insurmountable odds. She's held captive in the "compound" and if she escapes her friends will pay a huge price. If she stays, she personally pays an even greater price. The story had me on the edge of my seat. I really enjoyed it." R.Lees
"Shapeshifter Pride is a seventeen-year-old girl who has been raised in captivity as a killing machine. When her cruel master decides it's time to tame her, unless she wants to be broken her only option is to run. She knows running will bring harm to people who are already suffering but she's left with no choice. These same people willingly make sacrifices in order for her to win freedom for them all.
Her chance for escape comes when she's sent to capture a shapeshifter named Logan, a boy who represents everything she'd like to be. Although the attraction is instant and mutual, Logan is a long time gaining her trust. The fact that he has secrets of his own and is unwilling to share them makes it more difficult for her to believe in him.
This debut YA novel by the talented Cat Kalen will appeal to teens and adults alike. I stayed awake well into the morning hours in order to finish it." P.Altenburg

I'm so happy that my Sisters of Magic trilogy is once more avaiable, beginning with Shadow Magic! This trilogy is a historical paranormal set in Medieval England. It's one of the rare stories that I didn't set in Scotland.
So, here's the blurb for the first book.
With a past soaked in sin and darkness slowly closing in around him to claim his soul, Drogan only wants to live his life in solitude. Years in the king's service and his numerous deeds directed by the crown have left Drogan with horrendous nightmares and immeasurable guilt…
Serena is a witch, cursed and forever alone. She accepts her future. Until she meets Drogan. With Drogan a passion deep and unyielding awakens inside her. She is willing to sacrifice herself for his love, but can he put his past to rest and embrace the future?

Excerpt…
Serena leaned her head back and let the wind enfold her. The chill of the breeze made her wish she had thought to bring her cloak, but she had needed a quick escape from the great hall, from Drogan and his searching brown eyes. She ventured onto the battlements where she knew she could be alone. She loved looking out over Hawthorne and its people from the lofty perch.
She lifted her gaze and stared at the inky sky as the stars twinkled overhead. It was a full moon, and its bright light illuminated everything in its soft glow.
But she had no need of a light to know when Drogan drew near. She sensed him. She lowered her head to look at the land that was Gerard's by birthright, but hers in God's eyes.
"Hello, Lord Drogan," she said without turning around.
He stepped beside her and placed his hands on the stone wall. "How did you know it was me?"
"You have a very unique scent. The sandalwood is very strong, but I also smell traces of pine and a hint of cinnamon." She kept her eyes straight ahead, afraid to look at him.
Afraid of what she might see in his beautiful eyes. But more afraid of what she might do just to have him touch her.
"Do I unsettle you?" he asked quietly. "I have a feeling you don't care for me."
His statement surprised her so much, she swiveled her head to him. She stared at his profile for a moment. "It is the truth. You do unsettle me, but not for the reason you think. You are a good man, my lord."
"You say that as if you know it to be true."
"Because I do know it to be true."
His golden brown eyes shifted to her. "How do you know that? Because Gerard and Maris said so?"
"Actually, nay. I know it because I feel it." She reached up and placed her hand over her heart. "Here."
As soon as she touched him she knew she'd done the wrong thing. Something strong, something primal moved between them. It was heat, it was passion. And it doomed her.
"What are you?" he whispered, eyes narrowed on her in puzzlement.
Serena quickly dropped her arm and fisted her hand to keep the warmth of him against her as long as possible. "I am a woman."
He snorted. "You are much more than that," he said and turned to look at the land again.
Serena sighed and leaned against the battlement wall. She didn't move away from Drogan, although she should have. Every fiber of her being screamed to run as far away from Drogan as she could. She'd always listened to her conscious. Why would she ignore it now?
But she knew the answer. It was the desire, the need she felt inside Drogan. The longer she stood beside him, the more she sealed her fate.
"I am a bana‐bhuidseach."
"What is that?" he asked as his gaze swiveled to her.
"It is Gaelic for witch."
You know you want it !! Go fourth and buy! Happy day all!
I'll post some blizzard pictures later!

Saw Paranormal activity last night. It was pretty good. Not as good as two. I keep seeing previews of the next Twilight movie. Am I the only one not interested in seeing Bella get pregnant and having it drug out for two movies? My excitement has been smashed by the seemingly empty plot line for the next two movies. Sadly I think I am over it.
I am looking forward to this one! I love Ben Stiller and with Eddie Murphy its going to be great I hope!
