New films tout Palawan as traveller's paradise

New films tout Palawan as traveller's paradise
Back in February, I spent two weeks touring around the Filipino island of Palawan and can easily boast that it offered the best snorkeling experience I've yet enjoyed. The people of Palawan are humble but gracious hosts and seemingly some of the happiest folks around.

The island certainly offers plenty of charm within its capital of Puerto Princesa City and beyond, if visitors are able to look past its poverty. I spent the first five days in PPC, s...

Picture PANSY. The word has always churned my stomach.

A weak, effeminate, and cowardly man or boy.
A contemptuous term used to refer to a male homosexual.

How could such revolting slang grow out of the name given to a vibrant flower?

Granted, these offensive definitions have only been around for a few generations, I've learned. The word once held a deeper meaning. It's connected to the F...

The Climb

Picture Perched on a volcanic rock, neck cranked toward the sky
In wonder, I stare at those steps, raised to the heavens.
My pace set by lapping waves, a whirling wind fills me
With fresh, salty fuel as I begin the arduous climb.
Sweat from my lip won't slake mounting thirst under this glare
As the ascent grows steeper and clifftop abodes draw near.
Breathlessness compels a pause, and yet I still refuse
To join a passing mule train and its fil...

The Long Shot

Sergeant Brockheart parked the cruiser in front of the dilapidated farmhouse and turned to her partner. "Ready?" He nodded. "This lead is a long shot," she added, "but we may find something here that helps us finally catch Robbson. Let's do this."

Brockheart and Choi approached the door. "DeSoto County Sheriff's Department," she shouted as she banged on it. "We have a search warrant." No one answered....

My Highland Adventure

My Highland Adventure
Tour of Scotland featured in new film by Sheila Busteed
In August, after I finished my teaching contract in Morocco, I spent a few days in Scotland on my way back to Canada to visit family. My short stay started with an evening in Edinburgh that led to a reunion with an old friend. I'd met Alex Wayt when I was touring Scotland in 2009, so I was thrilled to learn that his band The Lockhearts was performing at Whistle Binkies Live Music Bar that night. Those guys put on a gr...

Say hello to "Goodbye"

Say hello to "Goodbye"
Songwriting partnership yields second single
Sheila Busteed's collaboration with Munich-based musician Eugene Vishnevski continues as the duo announce the release of their second single, "Goodbye."

"Goodbye" is a badass anthem about life in the music scene, with all its highs and lows. Featuring music by Eugene Vishnevski and lyrics by Sheila Busteed, this song proves that rock 'n' roll isn't dead. Listen to it here!
This track was a long time coming, but its release was de...

Christmas Adventure in Austria and Germany

Christmas Adventure in Austria and Germany
Watch Sheila Busteed's two newest travel films
Living overseas makes it difficult to spend the holiday season with family every year, so I spent Christmas 2015 traveling in Europe instead.

I visited Germany and Austria for the first time, with stays in Munich and Salzburg, respectively. My good friend and songwriting partner Eugene Vishnevski currently lives in the former city, so we got to see each other for the first time since we both left South Kore...

Andrea Bocelli is the Master: Marbella’s Starlite Festival closer gives exquisite performance

Andrea Bocelli is the Master
Marbella's Starlite Festival closer gives exquisite performance By Sheila Busteed

Andrea Bocelli just gave me multiple eargasms.

A month of traveling in Morocco, Spain and Canada has yielded many memorable moments. However, nothing could possibly top last night's bit of musical self-indulgence. I was one of only 2,200 people to attend the intimate, closing night concert for the Starlite Festival in Marbella.

In doing so, I have checked off a major milestone on my...

"Hollow Heart" -- Eugene Vishnevski and Sheila Busteed debut songwriting partnership

"Hollow Heart"
Eugene Vishnevski and Sheila Busteed debut songwriting partnership
I met the talented Belarusian musician Eugene Vishnevski last year while we were both living and working in South Korea. We've since moved on to other things, but our love for music has bonded us together, leading to the development of a wonderful friendship and working relationship as songwriting partners.

I'm proud to announce the first fruit of those labours is now available for you to enjoy. Please check out "H...

"The Funeral" -- A Flash Fiction Story by Sheila Busteed

"The Funeral"

"You're a sight for sore eyes."

"I couldn't very well leave you here alone, not today."

His flashing, white smile and dark, familiar eyes were my strongman, lifting the weight of the day off my shoulders in one sweeping motion. We huddled together in the corner of the room, avoiding all of the other guests.

I glanced at them as I bit my nails, wishing I had a cigarette between my fingers instead. They greeted e...
