Memorial Day 2023

On Memorial Day we honor the brave men and women who fought for our country. Those such as Dorie Miller who was awarded the Navy Cross for his acts of heroism at Pearl Harbor. Later he would risk his life to save his Captain, and sacrifice his life in the fight for freedom. We are thankful today for all those who serve.

Pentecost, Memorial Day, And Bohan

Today is both Pentecost Sunday, and Memorial Day weekend. We know that Pentecost is both the birthday of the Church, and the Jewish feast celebrating harvest. The interesting thing about the word Pentecost is that it is composed of two words. One root literally refers to the striping of a wound.

Memorial Day we as Americans reap rhe harvest of freedom sown by the sacrifices of brave soldiers throughout our history. The Church was born due to the Sacrifice and Resurrection of our Savior Christ Jesus. In the border of the tribe of Judah, was a stone dedicated to the Reubinite Bohan, his name meaning thumb.

Commentators believe he was one of the Reubenites who helped Joshua fight for Israel. They believe he died in battle, and that this was his burial marker. If that’s the case then his sacrifice was forever in the border of Judah.

As many know Judah means praise. In our worship, in our harvest, and our holiday we must have one rule of thumb. To remember the sacrifices that made this day possible as a Church, as a people, and as a nation. To worship knowing that our freedom was sown by a love willing to give everything for all of us.
