The Five Whispers – 5 Ways To Help Others

Did you know that the word whisper comes from an old German word for whistle? Maybe it’s just me but I don’t generally think of them in the same arena. Whispers are quiet, whistles are loud. One is about discretion, the other is about attention.
In life we have the same option, to act quietly or loudly. There is a lot of noise in this world, and it can be distracting. Many of us have been blessed with a quiet, yet consistent voice of support in our lives. They aren’t loud, but they make an impact, you and I can do the same for others.
I would like to share with you five ways to whisper support in the lives of others. The first is through consistent kindness to others. Usually this will be in the form of small acts to serve others. Occasionally there may be a big event, but most of the time it can be as simple as a smile.
The second whisper is by listening. Your ears, when used properly, can say so much more than your voice. They can express love, concern, support, and have an advantage over speech. We may struggle to find eloquent words to say, but true listening is always noble and eloquent. It doesn’t require an opinion to be given after hearing, only understanding.
Third, by reminding them not of our viewpoint, but our love for them. As a Christian often it takes the form of letting them know that I’m praying for them. These are not just empty words, they are backed by prayer for their good before God. It can also be by telling them how much we love them, or how confident we are in them.
The fourth whisper is by offering our time. Letting others know that we are here for them, and reinforcing it through our actions reassures them, someone is in their corner. Making time for others freely, especially when it’s not convenient, is a gentle whisper that we believe in them and their needs.
The fifth whisper is by complimenting them, not in a shallow way, but a sincere one. When we reaffirm to others that we not only value them, but believe in them, it’s a source of strength. They aren’t loud actions, but they speak volumes to those we love.
