Mindful Moments

It’s easy for one moment to slip into another unnoticed. Sometimes we need to be reminded of mindfulness. That’s the idea behind these bracelets. The beads are utterly random, just like all the beautiful, tragic, joy, infuriating, hilarious, mundane moments that, woven together, make a lifetime. This is a reminder for your wrist to savor … Continue reading "Mindful Moments"

Where the action’s at

Hi everyone! It’s the annual elf-con 1 frenzy. This year is a little less frenzy-like since the youngling isn’t so young anymore and family is far-flung enough most of us are staying home in our little groups this year. When I’m not knitting or baking something, I’ve been putting time toward get TaoCraft Tarot in … Continue reading "Where the action’s at"

Catch & Tag Bones

I’m entirely self taught when it comes to blogging, marketing, social media and all that jazzy little stuff. All I wanted to do was help people relieve stress with stuff that I know works because I’ve used it. I’ve engaged with Tarot, Reiki, Meditation and Natural Holistic Health up close and personal. You can’t help … Continue reading "Catch & Tag Bones"

Meet Zombie Cat 2021

What follows is the original Zombie Cat 2015 post from the Tarotbytes blog of my Modern Oracle Tarot website. The intent isn’t to prove or disprove Tarot with science or vice versa. Even though I’ve done my best due diligence in presenting the science part accurately, there may be an abundance of mistakes. Keep in … Continue reading "Meet Zombie Cat 2021"

The Great Poopgoo Experiment

From TaoCraft Tarot blog Over the past few years, between the pandemic and weird schedules, our family has become world champion at-home staycationers. I’m not complaining. I like it because it usually is a good excuse to treat ourselves to our favorite local restaurants, but that’s another story. Believe it or not, I have a … Continue reading "The Great Poopgoo Experiment"

On the Equinox

“No plan survives first contact with implementation” … “Follow the process, not the plan” – Adam Savage, tested.com This is true for any sort of creative work, but following process over plan is essential for Tarot readers, Reiki practitioners and any sort of energy or intuitive worker. I’d planned to just write an omnibus, bullet … Continue reading "On the Equinox"

It’s a Thought

If anybody ever reads this – thank you.

I haven’t touched this blog in a couple of years because all of the action is over at TaoCraft Tarot. I hope you’ll come over there and follow that blog. There is a new “ask Zombie Cat anything” kind of page. You ask, ZC turns it into a blog post. Might be right, might be wrong, but all Zombie Cat posts are 100% guaranteed to contained words and have a 50% chance of being dead wrong.

I give up trying to think of a clever name for this blog. If you have a suggestion or a question about anything on this site/blog, please email me. I still intend to put any blog posts

This whole site has been reviewed and updated for 2021.

I hope you’ll come over to TaoCraft, but I am thankful for you looking at this site too. I hope to be back with some entertaining content soon.

What is in a Name

I’m not a marketing expert.

Changing the tone, tenor, content, and name of my Tarot identity was mildly terrifying. “Re-branding” doesn’t begin to capture it, probably because name, nature and self-identity are so enmeshed. Changing from Modern Oracle to TaoCraft Tarot was certainly one of those life learning expanding experiences which triggered several and labels.

It is a little bit of that same process here. This blog & website has always been a catch-all side project. Initially I envisioned it to be an “about the author” promotion site for the back of books. Natural health services were added after my dissertation and things only got more scattered and less focused from there. It is time for this site to get a makeover too, new blog name included.

On one hand, I want to keep this blog neutral, nonthreatening, and a little milquetoast to serve as an online resume of sorts. On the other hand, I want this blog stay the friendly, welcoming, chatty catch-all that it evolved to be. Of course, there is no reason it can’t be both. If an employer doesn’t hire me because of the views expressed rather than the quality of the writing expressing those views, then that discrimination is on their heads.

So friendly little chatty catch-all blog it is, putting on a front be damned.

The name “Behold the Field” is inspired by my favorite Internet meme. It would be nice to know who to credit, but I couldn’t find a source anywhere. The meme isn’t about apathy, as you might think at first glance but rather about self acceptance. It is about utter and enduring authenticity, just like TaoCraft Tarot. It is about confidence in all the good one has to offer without regard for petty judgments from strangers. In other words:

“…being normal is not necessarily a virtue. It rather denotes a lack of courage.” – Alice Hoffman

and

“If you’ve got an idea you genuinely think is good, don’t let some idiot talk you out of it” – Stan Lee (as quoted in UCLA magazine on Medium.com)

and finally

Introducing Intellection

I love a Thesaurus.

Back in the dark days before computers, word processing and spellcheck, a thesaurus WAS my spellcheck, possibly one of my best life hacks. If you don’t know how to spell a word, just look up a synonym or antonym of the word you want to use. Boom. There is your word, no trial and error with a giant dictionary. Pocket Roget was my friend all through high school and college.

Pocket Roget’s cyberpunk great-grandbaby, thesaurus.com, come through for me again.

I wanted to rename this blog. Modern Oracle had Tarotbytes. I gave TaoCraft’s blog the obvious and eponymous title. For the soft relaunch of this blog, I was coming up empty. All I could think of was hackneyed, cliche, softball tripe like “musings” “inkling” “spark” or “thoughts.” Thesaurus to the rescue yet again.

Intellection means an exercise for the intellect, or a process of understanding. Finding this word was an intellection leading to an epiphany. Now I see a complete picture of web presence. TaoCraft is outward facing. That blog is where I hope to inform, inspire and entertain albeit with a renewed sense of fierce authenticity compared to Modern Oracle.

This is inward. This is where I write to understand and, hopefully, bring you along for the ride. Teeming with opinion, sprinkled with holistic health, this is where all the introspection and miscellany will go. Introspection and Miscellany would be a decent title, too, but it is a bit long for the web page layout. I’ll save that one in case I’m ever in a geeky hipster alternative rock band.
