Not quite 80s TV

An article wherein I muse on the nature of 80s television... or had planned to. What can I say? I get distracted easily!

One review to rule them all!

One review to rule them all! Mwhahahaha

Well, actually, no, but it is a blog article about reviews, ratings and a very brief note on the overarching findings from my "Do you review?" question on FF, Reddit and here.

All in the name of me finally finding out how marketing (for SP books and authors) actually works...

... and discovering I am still no good at it.

Questions answered

Hey,

As you'll know I took part in an r/fantasy Writer of the Day. Folks got the chance to put me on the spot, ask me questions, and interrogate me.

Some well known authors chipped in with questions and I tended to write a lot in the answers!

I'm aware that some folks don't like, get, visit, reddit and so, for those folks, and everyone else, I've put the questions and answers up on my website.

Feel free to visit and read - you can download a pdf or check out the questions 1 by 1 - up to you.

If you've other questions then feel free to use the Goodreads options or send me an email, tweet or facebook message.

Reddit - dipping in a toe

Hey,

Well, in a week's time I will be writer of the day on Reddit... I really hope folks show up... and so I decided to do a Giveaway - just head to r/fantasy, read the simple task, and reply. It couldn't be any easier and you get the chance (quite a good one so far) of getting a free book.

Everyone loves information, right?

Novels are all about excitement, intrigue, characters and a damned good story.

What happens when the author needs to tell you something? The dreaded 'info-dump'?

Mark Lawrence, Michael J Sullivan and Sarah Chorn talk stories.

One of my first articles for Fantasy-Faction and I got to talk to three heavyweights of Fantasy literature - life can be good sometimes.

The Blue Mountain

I may have mentioned, but I'd hate for you to miss out. It just wouldn't be fair to you, and I like to be fair.

You can get The Blue Mountain (Book 2 of the Forbidden List) ‪#‎FREE‬ right now on amazon- myBook.to/thebluemountain

The first book is in the ‪#‎SPFBO‬ set up by Mark Lawrence (who thinks the title for book 2 sounds like a Coffee brand... it is not about coffee. In fact, there is no coffee in it. There is tea. Just so you know.) and was reviewed by Sarah Chorn at www.bookwormblues.net and I am not ashamed to say she gave it 4 out 5* and said, ""This is very unique and incredibly brave." Now, you can't go wrong with quotes like that.

So if you're feeling brave, unique, and don't mind getting something for absolutely nothing (though you might also want to purchase book 1 - myBook.to/thestoneroad - for the incredibly low price of 99p or whatever that converts to on the US and other sites.)
And whilst we are at it, why not tell your friends too? They may even thank you and buy you drink later on tonight when you go to the pub, bar, club, or wherever it is you go.
In fact, if you're one of those people that find starting a conversation difficult you could try, "Say, did you get that book earlier? I hear it is really good!".

Just an idea is all.

Anyway, feel free to tell everyone you know and those you don't too.

Thank you for reading... if you did. If you didn't then why are you reading this bit now?

Free eBook

So, this week, I released Silent City and have had one positive review already - I call that dedication to the art of reading!

I also decided to make it free from Thursday 16th to Monday 21st April.

Why free? Why not ask people to buy it so I can make some of the production costs back?

Free because, even with three full length novels out, I am still new and unheard of. I want people to read the book, to enjoy the book and, hopefully, be motivated enough to leave a nice review on amazon/goodreads (both is nice).

Free because, selling a new world, a new character, a new setting is a tough sell.

Free because, word of mouth and recommendations sell. That is, I hope folks will tell other folks and more people will get the book and enjoy it.

Free because, if you're reading this now, you can take a chance and get it. I'd be really happy to know what you think.

Silent City

I had an idea, a long time ago. Way before I started Book 1 of Forbidden List, The Stone Road.

I'd written about 15k, over two days, of the story. I'd brought it to an end. An end I wasn't happy with. I wasn't satisfied.

And there it stayed. Forever in my mind. Time after time it came back - a tickle, a desire, a dream, a wish.

And so, in between the external edit of Book 2, The Blue Mountain, and the final tidying up of that story, I went back to it. Played around with ideas in my head and those in my journal.

I wrote it. And then edited, edited, thought, looked, and edited again. I sent the first bit out to a few folks - to gauge their opinion. They liked it.

So, I finished it. I published it... well, on Thursday 16th April it will be out and free for the first 5 days.

Silent City, a sci-fi novel.

In the Corporation owned cities life is tough. All Hayes wants is money and a bar to spend it in. He is about to learn that some jobs in the abyss can be killers. For a man who has lost everything, is life even worth fighting for?

It might be worth your time. If it is, I hope you enjoy it.
