Success! Maybe.

Maybe I shouldn't try to hurry so much. Maybe I should stop and really read, possible reread the directions. Maybe.
The clock keeps ticking. I hurry. Mistakes happen.
I did set up a giveaway for 5 copies of Dora's Story. It asked me to verify the set up. I clicked the link. At least I thought I clicked the link.
The real link was in my email. I found it yesterday, the day the Giveaway was to start, when I checked the email.
At last the giveaway was verified. It started a day late. But it is up and working.
Shock of all shocks, people have even signed up. I'm glad. I thank all of them.
My friend PJ suggested doing an eBook giveaway too. That must be on my website.
In for a penny, in for a pound.
I announced one on the website for 5 eBooks. It isn't as sophisticated as the one here on Goodreads. But it's there.
The truly amazing thing is the Goodreads button! I know next to no HTML. I know little about how to set up such things on my website.
Sometimes I think I know just enough to get into trouble. Especially when I do.
However, I did think of a place to put that Goodreads button link. I thought I might, just might, know how. And the button is right where I wanted it!
No matter how the Giveaways turn out, I've learned a lot. That makes doing this worthwhile.

Giveaway or Not?

I was very happy with the results from the giveaway for "Dora's Story" and am thinking of doing one for "The Pumpkin Project" too. I don't know if I can.
"Dora's Story" was published through CreateSpace. It was easy to list on Amazon and Smashwords and Kindle. It was easy to send off cpies through CreateSpace.
"The Pumpkin Project" will be printed at home. I will have an ISBN number to list it on Amazon. It will be available as a PDF on my website but not at Smashwords.
Why the difference?
"The Pumpkin Project" is a full 8 1/2 by 11 complicated book with its many puzzles, investigations and pictures. The page format is crucial to the book and will not work well on a small screen or turned into a print-picture-print format.
My home color laser printer will produce a nice book which can be bound with a plastic binding that opens flat for easy use and solving. I can mail copies from the local post office.
The book is almost done. One more coloring page to go and then the myriad details are left to do. It should be out by the book signing in Owensville, MO, on Oct. 17.
I would want to run a giveaway the beginning of October. The clock is ticking. Decisions, decisions.
I also wonder if anyone on GR would care about a science/activity book for 10 to 14 year-olds although much of it can be done by younger children with supervision.
Decisions. Decisions. I suppose I have until Wednesday to make up my mind.

Ins and Outs of Giveaways

This year I am trying very hard to get better at marketing my books. I feel very lost most of the time.
Last year I tried a giveaway here on Goodreads for Dora's Story. It was a great promotion. I do hope the people who received the book enjoyed it.
Capri Capers is due out March 17. I planned a giveaway ahead of time, part of a pre-release campaign.
I busily formatted the novel and uploaded the ebook formats. They are up and in pre-release.
The print book is finally successfully uploaded. It has an ISBN number. I have ordered a proof copy.
Optimistically I tried to set up a giveaway for five copies. The ISBN didn't work. Why?
The comment said the book didn't exist. Well, it doesn't really yet. Except it does. It just isn't totally approved yet.
I have looked through other giveaways and some are for books due out shortly. Why does theirs list and mine not?
I don't know. I may eventually figure it out. In the meantime my giveaway is delayed. It will happen. Just not on my timeline.
