Excerpt:

From “Killer” by Clarissa Wild

Vanessa

Never in my life did I think I would be the prime suspect in my husband’s murder. But looking back at the choices I made, it’s not so strange that people think I’m a killer.

I’m not as innocent as I portray myself. Looks can be deceiving.

However, I won’t go down for this. Not when I don’t deserve it.

I should’ve known it would end up this way. That man … Phoenix Sullivan … The moment I saw that deadly gaze in his eyes, the dark way he looked at me, I knew I was in trouble.

Big trouble.

And something tells me there’s more where that came from.

This game of catch won’t be ending any time soon.

Phoenix

Look at her, in her fancy white dress, with her fake blonde curls, and that sweet, deliciously fake smile. Don’t you just want to fuck that pretentious smile off her face? I do. And I will.

She has no idea what’s coming for her. Or her husband.

You see, I’m not a nice person. When I have my eyes set on something, I do it. In this case, it’s killing the man she’s married to. She probably won’t like it, but that’s not my problem. She’s not my target … and she’d better not turn herself into one.

I’m here with a purpose, and nothing stands between me and my goal. Not even a pretty girl with an ass worth fucking. Nobody stands in my way, and if they do, they die.

Too bad for her I’m like a fucking canon, and when I shoot, shrapnel flies everywhere. If she gets caught in the fire, that’s on her.

When I want something, I’m going to get it, no matter the price. Whether it’s killing someone, or fucking her.

She wants justice, I’ll give her justice … my justice.

I bet she isn’t willing to pay the price.

Too bad for her I always win.

BLURB:

With a hurricane closing in on Temptation, Louisiana, Michelle Thurston fails to convince her stubborn grandmother to leave her home on the bayou. Sheriff Gator Landry arrives by boat, hell-bent on forcing the elderly recluse to evacuate. He is stunned to find Michelle, who was just 16 years old when he courted her one steamy summer. Now, at 32, Michelle comes face-to-face with the man whose kisses tempted her to lose control, only this time there is no place to run. Although Gator is not about to leave the two women defenseless, Michelle can’t help but wonder if he is more dangerous to her than anything the storm can do.

Excerpt One:

“We need to get out of these wet things,” Michelle said, crossing her arms in front of her in an attempt to hide herself. She shivered as Gator continued to stare. He still had the power to make her body go berserk when he looked at her that way. Those glittering black eyes didn’t miss a thing. It was as though he were capable of seeing past flesh and bone to her inner workings, all of which shook at the moment as violently as the tree limbs outside the window. She was certain he knew what that look did to her. He had it down to an art. And if it had had a powerful effect on her at sixteen, it was doubly so now at thirty-two.

“That’s the best idea I’ve heard all day,” Gator said, shrugging out of his shirt. He mopped his brow and chest with it and ran it across the back of his neck.

Michelle wondered if he had any idea how sensual that simple act was. He was all rippling muscles and taut flesh. Goose pimples stood out on his shoulders and his nipples puckered from the chill in the room. His arms were lean and as brown as the rest of him. The room seemed to shrink to the size of a shoe box. Michelle had seen enough male bodies in her job to know that the one before her was one of the best she’d ever laid eyes on.

Gator would have had to be blind not to notice her perusal. The grin he shot her was brazen. “Like what you see, Mic?”

Charlotte Hughes published her first category romance in 1987, a Bantam Books’ Loveswept, titled Too Many Husbands, which immediately shot to #1 on the Waldenbooks Bestseller list. She went on to write almost thirty books before the line closed in 1998.

Although Charlotte is widely known for her laugh-out-loud romantic comedies, she went on to pen three Maggie-Award winning thrillers for Avon Books in the late nineties, before resuming her first love, funny stories about people falling in love. She thrilled readers with her hilarious books, A New Attitude and Hot Shot, the latter of which won the Waldenbooks Greatest Sales Growth Achievement in 2003.

Her books received so many accolades that she was invited to co-author the very popular Full House series with mega-star author Janet Evanovich.

With that series behind her, Charlotte began her own, starring psychologist Kate Holly; What Looks Like Crazy, Nutcase, and High Anxiety, creating a list of somewhat kooky but always loveable and funny ensemble characters.

Enlightened

FullSizeRender

I moved into my house seven years ago. One of the “perks” of living here is my having lights everywhere. Big deal, you say? I would’ve agreed a few years ago, but since I’ve reached a certain level of maturity, I’ve come to appreciate the extra brightness all over.

Every bedroom closet has a fixture. The kitchen? Recessed, under the counter, stove, pantry—all blessed with a hundred watt plus illumination. But the “highlight” of my lighting? My bathroom shower stall. With the added glow, I don’t mix up my shampoo and conditioner, and I’m less likely to miss a spot when shaving my legs, among other things.

Recently, disaster struck. The shower bulb burned out. Not a big deal. Except, I can’t get the cover off so I can change it. I’m assuming the location is the reason for the difficulty, so I get it. But needing to call in Superman to remove a six inch cap is a little much.

For now I shower without my precious light, leaving all possible hindrances to fate as I wait for the man of steel to arrive.

Heres a peek at my Texting All Hearts romance/suspense novella

A Lethal Affair

Blurb:

With a rumored serial killer targeting exotic dancers, Daisy Piper is more than a little worried when her co-worker goes missing. Her concern escalates when a guy shes never met shows up claiming her friend stole his laptop. A mild-mannered computer whiz on the surface, Miles Garton is a total contrast from the streetwise Daisy. But hes on a mission of his own, making the jaded stripper suspicious. Fighting each other, a mutual attraction, and the truth, they team up to find the missing woman

Excerpt:

Im on my way.

A loud sigh escaped Daisy Pipers lips after she reread the several hours old text for the hundredth time. With reluctance, she placed the phone on the counter in front of her, plucked a wipe from a package, and proceeded to wash her face. The moist towelette absorbed the heavy makeup until it was too grimy to do any good. She removed another, held the damp tissue between her fingers and stared into the mirror.

Beth shouldve been here by now. Her message arrived eons ago and her no show was out of character. Though Daisy tried to keep her focus centered and act normal, she couldnt shake the horrible feeling.

Something was wrong.

Insanity is doing the same thing over again and expecting different results

Okay, January is over, and I’m wondering how many made new years resolutions and if you’re having any luck. One of mine was go blog more often, but that hasn’t gone so well. In my defense, I have been fighting the “crud” throughout most of January, so I’ve fallen behind on just about…everything. Except eating, of course.

I did better than most years as far as goal-setting goes. I made a list. My daughter would be so proud. I even went so far as to make plans on how to execute and to obtain my goals. I did this because over the years, I’ve wanted to make changes-and a few have occurred, but those happened because of dumb luck as opposed to anything I did.

I decided to map out a strategy and write it down because it holds me accountable. Now I’m forever a procrastinator, especially in doing things I don’t want to do, and believe me this habit has been difficult to overcome, but I’m trying. One baby step at a time.

How about you? What is your approach for making changes in your life?shadow-of-love-sonia-richard

Excerpt

“You think I’m an actual suspect?”

Jack’s jaw tightened. “No clue. Did they suggest you not leave town?”

“Only for a few days, and they instructed me in a polite manner.”

“Well, if they were polite—.”

“Jack. They want me to stay around until the final results of the autopsy are determined.” She stopped to swallow. “You’re not getting the same vibe are you?”

“I’m saying given the circumstances, they’ll probably look at you pretty long before they eliminate you. Part of my training is to study body language. I watched those cops interview you. They exchanged skeptical glances throughout the entire interrogation. Not a positive sign.”

“Good to know,” Katie murmured.

Talk about a cold punch of reality. She became squeamish when she squished bugs. No way could she murder another human. “They can scrutinize me all they want. I have nothing to hide. Besides, I gave them solid alibis. I visited my parent’s after Hazel let me go, and then I went to my friend Jules place. I stayed with her until around two in the morning.”

“Yes, but they haven’t determined the time of death, right? If she died before two,” he turned his head to her, “you’re okay. What if it occurred later? Anyone who’ll vouch for you then?”

“I was alone,” Katie replied softly.

“Can you prove it if you need to?”

“Of course not,” she snapped. She blew out a long spurt of air seeking calm before she spoke again. “How would someone verify they were by themselves if no one is with them?” she asked in a controlled, distant voice.

“No clue.” Jack’s tone equaled her coolness. “You’ll need to find a way if they require an account of your whereabouts after two.”

What’s up?

I haven’t been available lately, I’ve been hiding in my writing cave (dungeon?) working my latest Romance Suspense. This story is to be published with a group of talented authors for a box set.

It’s a 30,000 word novella, yet it’s the hardest manuscript I’ve put together to date. It was due last weekend, but I started over many times. Finally, I figured out the protagonist conflict the Monday before.

Needless to say I didn’t make the deadline. Since, I’ve worked diligently to turn over to my fellow authors for critiques only to decide yesterday I didn’t like the ending or the title. The finale is redone, though it needs work and I’m satisfied with A Lethal Affair as the name. The book is now in the hands of the experts. We shall see. The set is projected to be released around February or March.

My editor sent me edits for Toxic a full length romance/suspense. Other than a read through, not much has been done, although I have ideas. Completing the edits are my task this week. I am especially excited about this publication. It was the first book I wrote, I started it ten years ago. It’s been revised at least a hundred times. I still have the original. It’s baaaad. Stay tuned.

And now for my EXTRA exciting news. My second book, Tomorrow Doesn’t Matter Tonight is set for release on NOVEMBER 19th. It’s available at Amazon.com, BarnsandNoble.com and The Wild Rose Press.

Hope you’ll pick up a copy and let me know what you think!
