7 days -- 7 island stops on a cruise ship!

Whenever I travel, I carry my laptop and keep a journal. I've just returned from a 7 day Carnival cruise  starting at San Juan on the Victory ship with my hubby Dave, our kids Melissa & Brian and childhood bestfriends Lori & Ken.

Here are highlights from out trip!

CRUISE May 8, 2010  SATURDAY (TRAVEL)
Our trip began with red and blue lights of a police car pulling us over just a mile after we left home. They seemed to be looking for something, shining lights to check us out. Friendly and inter...

Want to win an ARC for the 6th THE SEER?

I was interviewed at the TEENSREADTOO blog -- and answered some questions I have NEVER had before.
My favorite was what national holiday would I create if given the opportunity. Anyone who knows me won't
be surprised at my answer.

Cruising with Books!

Next week I'm going on a cruise and I've chosen three paperbacks to bring along.
I usually bring more books but this cruise has no sea days and a new port every day,
which means less time for reading and more time for adventuring.

The books I decided to bring (and the reasons why):

1.  INSIDE OUT by Maria V Snyder.
When I read POISON STUDY a few years ago, I was blown away
by the first chapter then captivated by the whole book.
So when I heard Maria had a YA book c...

What I did and heard and saw at the SCBWI Rocklin (CA) Conference

Saturday morning
up at 6AM and met other volunteers in Rocklin at 7:15AM.
Patti Newman & Erin Dealey, our hard-working regional advisors, ran things great! I knew to go to the registration and worked with Nancy Barnett (pb author-illustrator) signing people in.  Later Patti said she was impressed how the volunteers jumped to work "like a well-oiled machine."

The community center was gorgeous! We sat at long tables with cushioned chairs.  And the facility had free wifi for anyone who wanted to...

SIX THINGS ON A SATURDAY

1.      I'm going to hear mystery author Rhys Bowen speak today at a Sister In Crime formal tea.
I love Rhys's MOLLY series and her new SPY historical mystery series. What I have admired
her for, though, for many years is the over 100 YA novels she wrote in (mostly) in 80's.
She wrote teen series THE BOYFRIEND CLUB, FRIENDS (ironically about a teen named
Jennifer Barnes and I now know a talented author with the same name), HEARTBREAK CAFE
         and SUGAR AND...

MY WICKED DAY

Today was a wonderful day in Oz.

Early morning my hubby, son and I headed for San Francisco -- the first time in at least 6-10 years. We  drove across the Bay Bridge and by the Embarcadero we found $6 parking for all day, so we parked and just started walking down to the wharf, probably about 2 miles. It was overcast and windy but not too cold, and I'd prepared anyway with a jacket and gloves and sun glasses.

We stopped at Pier 39 and a family offered us 3 free tickets to the aquarium.  Free...

Are E-books going to take over the world?

I was asked if e-books were going to replace picture books.

I don't think so. Sure, they'll be a choice and I'm all for choices,
but can you imagine balancing an e-reader AND a squirming
toddler on your lap for bedtime reading? Pushing buttons might
be fun but not as satisfying as the rippling sound and intimate
touch of turning pages.

Once e-picture books start to get popular, people will rebel and there will be a reverse movement.
Maybe a "brown" movement with a cry of "Back to Paper! Strip those ...

How my family hunted flags and rolled dice at Easter party

Tradition in our family is to have a BIG party on the day before Easter so those who want to go to church and have egg hunts on Sunday don't have any conflicts.

We live on about 25 acres and it's beautiful this time of year.

It was cold but clear with glimpses of sunshine. So no hanging out on the porch but my brother's family went on our seasonal pond in paddle boats.

We had about 20 family and friends. Felt like a full house with people everywhere. The teens hid out in my room watching a DV...
