Hello, friends! It won’t be long before the first episode of The Murder Lawyer Series (TMLS) releases – May 1, to be exact. Are you excited! I know I am. I can’t wait to share this new adventure with you.
Before the first episode debuts, there’s a few things I want to share with you about this series. So, let’s get started.
TMLS is broken up in to 12 parts that I’m calling episodes. They are longer than normal chapters, but not long enough to be considered novellas....

To the reader who lets me tell my stories,
I cherish you. I do. I appreciate each and every one of you more than you realize. I’m a reader too. When I’m done with a book, it’s true I move on to the next book, the next author. But as a writer, I never move on from you. I think about all of you all the time. How could I not?
Every time you recommend one of my books, like a social media post, or ask me when a new book is coming out, you’re supporting me and my need to live a creative life. Your encouragement pushes me write better and cr...

Spring Time Thoughts
What does spring mean to you? For some, it means witnessing colorful rows of tulips popping up in yards, parks, and in front of local businesses. Sometimes, it means a quick getaway to warmer places where spring shows up in proper form, not just a date on the calendar. For me, spring means all of those things and something deeper.
Spring is when the idea of renewal takes root.
When the grass turns green again, and the warm raindrops nourish the frozen earth, the soggy, lushness of this time o...

Self-Publishing vs. Traditional Publishing – Which Is Better?
I recently answered a writer’s question on Quora about whether or not a new writer should go the self-publishing route or stick with a traditional publisher. If you’re struggling with this same question, here are some points to consider.
While self-publishing success is hard, breaking into traditional publishing is just as difficult. However, with a strategic marketing plan, great content, and perseverance, it’s possible to make money as a self-published author.
It’s very tempting to take an...

Piper’s 2017 Reading List
As a new year approaches, I like to take some time think about all the books I read over the past 11+ months. I love to read, but I’m not necessarily a voracious reader. My reading preference tends to be slow and savoring. When I finish a book that relationship has come to an end with those characters, and I’m rarely looking for a rebound fling. I wait for another meaningful read. That’s just me. It’s not everyone’s preference. I’m just that kind reader.
What I’m currently reading. . .
I’m...

Love Letters
Dear Friends,
The holidays are a special time of year that are filled with laughter, memories, and an abundance of cheer. At the same time that we are giddy with joy, there are others among us that need a little extra support. May I ask you a question? Would you be willing to “light up the dark this holiday season?”
This letter is a little different than the other letters I’ve written in the past. Mostly, because this letter is a call to action. That action being to participate with me in Th...

5 Surprising Ways to Give the Gift of Reading this Holiday Season
When I was a child, I loved Christmas. What kid doesn’t? The magic, the twinkling lights, candy canes, and, of course, presents under the tree. I remember a handful of gifts that I treasured. One gift was my Jenny doll. She had dark hair and fair skin like me. She wore a yellow dress with a white bonnet, and I loved her dearly. Another year I got two Cabbage Patch dolls. One was handmade by my mom, the other a “real” Cabbage Patch preemie, safely purchased by my mom after waiting hours in a...

Authentic Social Networking
Beginning a friendship when you were a child was relatively stress-free. All you had to do was sit next to a new person at the lunch table, realize you both loved the color purple, despised bologna and cheese and voila you were on your way to sharing your deepest darkest secrets (okay, maybe just sharing your secret crush for the day and a fruit roll-up). Throughout the first part of most everyone’s lives finding friends is easy, but once you embark on ad...

The Mail Truck
It is the calm in the aftermath of chaos that brings the tears. That and a child’s toy car, a Hot Wheels car. It’s color completely gone. It could have been red or blue, maybe even purple with orange fire trails along its sides, but now it is charred and blackened like everything else in the neighborhood. The smell of smoke lingers in the air. Perhaps, even more so, the smell is still thick in her nostrils. Three days have passed since the flames were snuffed from the mountainside, smothered...

The Day You Learned the World Didn’t Back You Up
Dear Past Me,
Do you remember that day?
Actually, it was evening and you were just doing your job. You were sitting at a desk in his office minding your business, looking for a file on the computer so YOU could do your job. You weren’t expecting to click on a file and suddenly find yourself staring at thousands of pornographic images of women, disturbing, violent, and demeaning. You were shocked and uncertain what to do because this man was in charge of a progr...
