What Do You Want to Know?

Okay, friends, so I’ve fallen behind on posting weekly to my blog. Not the end of the world, but I need to get back in the habit. Here’s the problem:

I’ve been trying to think of what I want to write to you this week, and I got nothing. My brain is mush, incapable of forming complete thoughts.

What Do You Want to Know?

Took this pic on my deck. It was the first day of my daughter going back to school full-time. Probably only the third time I’d been alone in my house since March.

Seriously, you should see my current wo...

Gray Matters

In case you missed it, I recently made a huge announcement on social media. After 16 years of dying my hair to cover the pesky grays that have become increasingly resilient over the years, I’ve finally decided to ditch the dye and embrace my “new” natural hair color.

6.5 weeks since I last had my roots covered

Nope! It’s not a quarantine decision. It’s something I’ve been thinking about for a couple of years now each time I put down a chunk of money to dye my roots and a week or two later those...

Why I Love My Book Collection

I spent all weekend trying to figure out what I wanted to write to you about this week. As of a few hours ago, I thought I’d be writing to you about my new children’s journal that I am releasing on August 1. I still want to tell you about the journal because it’s awesome and I’m over the moon about it, but I think I’ll do that a little later this week. Instead, I want to talk about my book collection.

I love to read. I always have since I was a little girl when my mom would take me to the librar...

Back to the Basics

“Not until we are lost do we begin to understand ourselves.” Henry David Thoreau

Have you ever found yourself going about the motions of your daily life and suddenly realize you have no clue how you ended up where you are? The goals and dreams you once held so tight to have seemed to unravel around you. Life isn’t bad, but it’s not quite what you envisioned it would be.

This is where I’ve found myself the past few months, wondering how I got off track. Nearly seven years ago, I fulfilled a lifel...

How to Read a Free Book

I know what you’re thinking. What kind of nonsense is this? Well, bear with me for a moment, if you will.

You see, the reason I’m writing this is that I send out emails and make posts periodically about free book promotions. These are promotions that authors like me participate in to reach new readers. In addition to participating in third-party promotions with other authors, I also offer free ebook copies of When Luck Dies, The Murder Lawyer #1, and, occasionally, Missing Girl.

I could tell you...

We Must Stop Living in the Fine

This past week has been raw and emotional. Many of you might be feeling fatigued from all the social justice posts and wondering when your feeds will go back to normal.

But what is normal?

Image from Wentzville United Methodist Unity Walk June 6, 2020

Normal is a lot like “living in the fine”. Living in the fine is a term I use to describe the apathetic numbness of just moving through day-to-day life without really living, without really seeing.

Yes, your social feeds will s...

Why April 1 Isn’t a Joke to Me

Glennon Doyle Twitter Quote

I saw this quote a couple of weeks ago, and it reminded me of what it means to be resilient in the face of any unknown. April 1 has a special meaning for me, and, if you have time, Id like to tell you a story.

16 years ago, I was almost 29 weeks pregnant with my youngest daughter. I was scheduled to work the afternoon/evening shift at the domestic violence shelter where I was a resource specialist and legal advocate. Before I went to work, I stopped at the mall to buy maternity clothes. I...
