How to Self-Promote

For this week’s writing and publishing post, I am taking the lazy way out. Actually, I am accepting the fact that I have very little brainpower left to write anything logical. But I also don’t want to leave you guys hanging. So, please allow me to direct you to a post I wrote back in December related to the delicate topic of self-promotion. Aspublished writersit’s something we have to do, but it can be a terrifying experience.

Please take a moment to...

Excerpt fromThe Waiting Room by Piper Punches

It happened a few weeks into the New Year. The townspeople claimed that they could hear the anguished cries coming from the Gold cabin in the wee hours of the morning; the hours of the night right before sunrise when it is the darkest and coldest. Of course, this is country folklore and gossip. No one would have been able to hear a sound. Th...

Finding Inspiration at the Bottom of the Well

All writers have found themselves staring hopelessly at a blank screen or an empty page at some point during their writing careers, asking any of the following questions:

“What now?”

“Where do I even begin?”

“Is this even worth it?”

Some call it writer’s block. Others may label it procrastination, but whatever you chose to call it the end result is the same – a blank page full of possibilities. That’s right – possibilities. The first thing that writers...

Hi, everyone! Wanted to let you all know about a new series I am starting on my blog for my fellow writers. Once a week, maybe more (let’s not get too crazy right away), I will be publishing tips related to writing and publishing.

While I am not an expert by any means, as a self-published writer I am learning a few tricks of the trade along the way and want to share them with you. In return, please feel free to leave comments about your experiences a...

How to Handle a Bad Book Review

Rejection may be a part of life, but that doesn’t make it easy to accept. As a writer, rejection comes in many forms. You may have spent years penning the so-called great American novel only to find not a single agent or publisher will take a chance on you and your 500 page family saga. You may have poured your soul into a short story only to find it falling short of your expectations and selling too few copies to even...

Goodreads Giveaway!

As a reader, I don’t utilize Goodreads as much as I should. But, as a writer, I can’t help but take advantage of the tools and resources including the giveaway option. Which leads me to the point of this very short blog post. Goodreads is hosting a short giveaway for a signed copy of Missing Girl. I am giving away two copies to two lucky readers. If you are a Goodreads member you may want to get in on this deal. Contest ends May 2, 2014!

The Message Behind 60 Days

60 Days is a book that explores the darkest corners of life. Those hidden places that we know exist, but rarely choose to seek out and change. But as serious as the subject matter may be it is still a book about the human heart and how resilient it is even in the darkest hours.

When I saw this image months ago with this particular quote, I knew immediately that this was what I wanted readers to take away from 60 Days (releasing in 2014).

Please share and like so we can spread this message of lo...

Coming Home

On Friday, I asked my Facebook fans to play a little game called Shuffle It. The rules were simply. I was given a lyric or a phrase from a song to incorporate in someway into a short flash fiction piece that I would post on my website by Sunday night. I had two different lyrics/phrases to play with and I basically incorporated them into this short piece in the best way I saw fit. You can read the lyrics I was given by visiting my FB page. Honestly, I don’t even know where this story came from...

2014 Women Writers to Add to Your Must-Read List

Are you tired of hearing the same female names tossed around in the literary world? JodiPicoult, Gillian Flynn, Jennifer Weiner,Laura Lippman, soforth and so on?Don’t get me wrong. There isn’t anything wrong these amazing female authors. Their successes have paved the way for so many women novelists that would have been doomed tofind one or two copies of their workshaphazardly placed and quickly forgottenon a bookshelf in the far recesses of the nearest mega bookstore oremblazoned with the la...
