White Dragon Black series
I commissioned the artist who did the cover art for the novel ‘Tomorrow Wendell’ to make the logo that would represent the entire series. This is what I got – and I couldn’t be happier.

Rushing Headlong
I’m rushing headlong towards the release of the novel – how do I feel?
I really don’t know.
My brain is doing it’s usual thing – I’m know I’m getting excited, so it is shutting down my emotion. As the day looms closer, I become more detached. It is oddly paradoxical. But, I suppose, on some level it is a good thing. I’m not turning into a useless ball of excited energy at least – so that’s one thing.
In reality, the actual book release is still a month off – June 28th. But I know it will be here fast, in the scope of things, and that time will be filled with things related to it. For example, on Monday, we do the promo release and then reviews from the ARC will start to pop up all during the month.
I have to get the prizes for the release party together and done in that time as well. Again, good reason to have my mind dictating my emotion…or lack of them. I think what I’m offering for prizes during the Facebook release party are pretty good; a book-marker, e-version of the novel, prints of the cover art (signed by both the artist, Luke Spooner, and myself), and a signed print version.
I am still also in a sort of state of denial – I suppose that isn’t too uncommon. Maybe holding the actual paperback in my hand will help make it real. This has been one weird trip and it’s not done yet. I wouldn’t change a thing about it though.

The Awful Truth of Mental Illness
From this ARTICLE:
“He also adds that mental and physical health should be treated hand in hand, and not as two separate entities. Considerable money has been spent researching and educating the public about the dangers of tobacco, and Fazel believes a similar approach should be taken with mental health.
“People with mental health problems are among the most vulnerable in society,” Fazel continues. “This work emphasizes how crucial it is that they have access to appropriate healthcare and advice, which is not always the case. We now have strong evidence that mental illness is just as threatening to life expectancy as other public health threats such as smoking.””
It’s short, to the point – and scary.

Book to Check out!
First Impression (Shadow Maven #1)
by Pauline Creeden
published on March 31st 2014 by AltWit Press
Chira Kelly thought she didn’t need anyone…until she met Ben.
Because of one ugly rumor, Chira lives as an outcast at her school. Which is fine with her, because she works better alone. Always has, always will. And at least she has her one and only true friend, Tasha. When Tasha insists that they join a group to visit a possibly haunted abandoned old schoolhouse, she’s wary, but joins her friend. Because of that decision, their lives are in jeopardy as a malevolent spirit targets the group. Tragedies and accidents pick them off one by one, and Chira finds herself drawn to the one person who can see the truth. But can he protect her?
About the authorIn simple language, Pauline Creeden creates worlds that are both familiar and strange, often pulling the veil between dimensions. She becomes the main character in each of her stories, and because she has ADD, she will get bored if she pretends to be one person for too long.
Pauline is a horse trainer from Virginia, but writing is her therapy.
Armored Hearts, her joint effort with author Melissa Turner Lee, has been a #1 Bestseller in Christian Fantasy and been awarded the Crowned Heart for Excellence by InDtale Magazine.
Her debut novel, Sanctuary, won 1st Place Christian YA Title 2013 Dante Rosetti Award and is now available as an audiobook. #1 Bestseller on Amazon in Christian Sci/Fi and Fantasy (October 2013)
One of Pauline’s short stories has won the CCW Short Story contest. Other short stories have been published in Fear & Trembling Magazine, Obsidian River and Avenir Eclectia. An urban fantasy short will appear in The Book of Sylvari: An Anthology of Elves from Port Yonder Press, and a vampire short will appear in Monsters! from Diminished Media Group.

So … Now What?
We have reached the point in the publishing process where there is nothing more for me to do.
I’ve done the edits, helped get the Arc readers their copies, gathered bloggers and reviewers, helped with the blog promotion package, shared my idea’s about publicity styles, and complied the prizes for my release party.
So … now what?
I have entered a true void. A vacuum of action. A dead calm on the sea of publishing.
It is a week before we go live with any promotions. And the Arc readers haven’t had their copies long enough to be hearing back from them. I have nothing to do for the first time in months.
And I’m feeling a bit lost.
I have started back on my morning routine of writing, so that is helping. Being able to dive in and do a few laps in Jonathan’s world is nice and gives me a nice distraction. I haven’t got into the habit of my afternoon edits again yet, however. Although I did do some last night when my body and mind seemed to have conspired against sleep.
As it is the summer season now, there are plenty of things that need doing and , if I can drag myself away from the computer, that will help pass the time and further distract me from this doldrum in the publishing process. But habits formed over the long, long winter are hard to break, so I’m sitting here more than I really should be.
I have a feeling, I’ll just get into the swing of not doing anything with ‘Tomorrow Wendell’ when I suddenly will need to be back at it for post release promotion.
Maybe I should enjoy this lull – maybe I’ll figure out how to reset my routine… probably just in time to realize summer is over and I missed it.

Another Novel to Check Out – Craving
A deal with a demon, a biker psychic and the girl who might just be his salvation… if the demon doesn’t get to her first.
Dante isn’t your typical medium. With his leather jacket, tattoos and piercings, he looks more at home on his motorbike than he does holding a séance and Katherine has no intention of getting involved with him. He’s the complete opposite of the kind of man she wants and represents everything she’s tried to leave behind, but she needs a medium and he’s the best one around.
Dante’s never allowed himself to get close to anyone for fear of putting them in danger. His craving for Katherine is about to bring his worst nightmares to life. ~
EXCERPT:
Dante’s breath hitched. He flinched, and a shudder ran up my arm. As he lifted his head I felt the temperature plummet. The candles nearest to him flickered and bobbed as though in a breeze and I shivered, chills oozing down my neck.
“Hello, Gabriel.” Dante sounded polite, respectful. Beside me, Suki gasped, her fingers closing tighter around my hand. One by one, the candles flickered and stuttered, the flames waved crazily and almost blew out, before righting themselves. It looked as though an unseen child crawled around the room, puffing at each one in turn. I shivered and tucked my feet in tighter, huddling into myself to keep warm.
“Please show yourself to the circle. Come and talk to us, Gabriel.”
I wrinkled my nose. What was that weird smell? Like rotting meat.
The outer candles shimmied in turn, but faster now. Dante spoke again, calm and measured. “Gabriel. I summon you to the circle.”
Suki’s chest heaved, her eyes wide and scared in the dim lights.
The candlelight steadied. Dante’s hand relaxed a fraction, and he sucked in a deep breath. Was this it? Would Gabe appear? The stink faded, and I turned my head to look at Dante just as Suki squealed and a tiny spotlight in the ceiling exploded. Poof. One by one, the recessed bulbs sparked and shattered, tiny glass fragments raining down on us. Poof. Josh swore under his breath and I sought my voice. Poof.
“Don’t break the circle, keep your hands linked.” Yes, I’d taken Nanette’s role.
Poof. Slivers of glass in my hair. I gripped Dante ever tighter. I kept my head down to avoid the falling glass, but focused on him through the curtain of my hair. He stared at the far wall, his face a mask. I looked too. A column of mist hovered in front of the door, tendrils snaked along the floor and washed around the circle, nudging the salt lines. It’s trying to get in, I realized, my heart speeding up. Poof. The final spotlight blew out, leaving us illuminated only by candles. I shivered, trembling from head to toe. My teeth would be chattering in another minute.
Dante gasped, and his head lolled forward. I blinked as the room began to dim. Oh God. One by one, the outer candles winked out, invisible fingers pinching the wicks. I could feel Suki’s terror, the trembling cascading down through her hand. I tried to stay calm. Just the inner eight candles left. The stink of rotting meat returned. I wanted to cover my nose, but daren’t break the circle. And then Dante spoke in a voice I didn’t recognize.

High profile couple Suki and Gabe Bridgewater have the perfect marriage, or at least, that’s the image they portray to the world. Behind closed doors, Gabe’s dominance in the marriage is unravelling and he decides to test Suki, using Josh as bait.
For Josh it should be just another easy job, but two things go horribly wrong.
One, Josh falls in love with Suki.
And two, Gabe refuses to let her go.
Author Bio:
Romance author Sofia Grey spends her days managing projects in the corporate world and her nights hanging out with wolf shifters and alpha males. She devours pretty much anything in the fiction line, but she prefers her romances to be hot, and her heroes to have hidden depths. When writing, she enjoys peeling back the layers to expose her characters’ flaws and always makes them work hard for their happy endings.
Music is interwoven so tightly into my writing that I can’t untangle the two. Either I’m listening to a playlist on my iPod, have music seeping from my laptop speakers, or there’s a song playing in my head – sometimes on auto-repeat.

Starblood Trilogy Blog Tour

Carmilla Voiez is a pioneer in horror writing. Her visceral and violent no-holds-barred descriptions of magic, sex, demons and obsession might remind some readers of Clive Barker’s wonderful works of horror and dark fantasy, however her stories are told from a uniquely female perspective. Old tropes of hapless female victims pursued by psychotic male killers are reversed or expelled and the result is disturbing yet at the same time refreshing.

Starblood has been released as a trilogy in three separate books Starblood, Psychonaut and Black Sun previously and these are all still available for Kindle or in paperback. However, on the 16th May 2014 a new volume, beautifully edited and perfected, of all three stories in one huge package will be available on Kindle, bringing Voiez’s work to a whole new generation of horror readers.
There will be a release party on Facebook to celebrate the launch. Once the book goes live on Amazon this link will take you to that page. In the meantime it will direct you towards the party event where you can find out more. http://smarturl.it/TheStarbloodTrilogy
Praise for Starblood -
“In a market flooded with badly written supernatural romances passed off as horror, Carmilla Voiez is a prophet of the uncanny. Not since Clive Barker has any author mastered pure, visceral atrocity, and yet her characters maintain an elegance and humanity that turns what could just be a blood sport into a Shakespearean tragedy. Starblood may be the only true female horror novel in existence, and within its pages a reader is forced at knifepoint to see the world through the eyes of the raped, the abused, and the unloved with hateful clarity. She makes us bear witness to the demons we ourselves create. You don’t read her books. You survive them.
” Jef Withonef, Houston Press.
Praise for Psychonaut -
“Carmilla Voiez is more of a singer than a writer. She tells her compelling story in a hypnotic, distinctive voice that brings her eerie world vividly to life.” Graham Masterton
“Psychonaut is a book of mad impulses, inner vision, sadism, escape and belief. You feel uncomfortable reading it, like Alex strapped to the chair in Clockwork Orange being taught to feel sick at atrocity. Rather than leave us crippled by response, though, Psychonaut bears you through the hurt towards the only paradise we can be assured of…a love past fault.” Jef Withonef, Houston Press.
Praise for Black Sun -
“This is the concluding novel in the Starblood trilogy. Satori has brought Star back to the physical world, and the second novel, Psychonaut, could well have ended on that happy note, but as we know by now, Carmilla Voiez doesn’t do clichés. Satori and Star have not returned alone: insidious influences from both the astral plane and the physical world intermingle in a web of deceit and betrayal of Wagnerian complexity. Even that which is not what it seems is not what it seems.
If you are a horror fan, the Starblood Trilogy has everything to recommend it. If you are not, you will enjoy having your comfort zone challenged – I certainly did.” J.R.B.

Carmilla Voiez is a new voice in the world of horror. While the imagery harks back to the writings of Clive Barker and H P Lovecraft, her voice is uniquely female. Starblood is perhaps the first true female horror story ever written, dealing with both sexual violence and the struggle of a woman trying to make sense of a senseless world.
Carmilla grew up on a varied diet of horror. Her earliest influences as a teenage reader were Graham Masterton, Brian Lumley and Clive Barker mixed with the romance of Hammer Horror and the visceral violence of the first wave of video nasties. Fascinated by the Goth aesthetic and enchanted by threnodies of eighties Goth and post-punk music she evolved into the creature of darkness we find today.
Living in North East Scotland, she finds inspiration in the wildlife, castles and desolate places which surround her. She lives with her two children by the sea.
Her books are both extraordinarily personal and universally challenging. As Jef Withonef of Houston Press once said – “You do not read her books, you survive them.”
Signed to Vamptasy Publishing in 2012 three books in the critically acclaimed Starblood Trilogy have been published and she is currently working on a vampire tale. She has also edited and compiled a collection of psychological horror from the best new talent in the world of horror writing “Broken Mirrors, Fractured Minds”. Carmilla Voiez is a name to watch.

A sugar baby in love. A doctor with a heartbreaking secret. And a love neither of them ever expected to find. Lucy McPherson struggled all of her adult life to take care of her daughter and later, her mother. At the age of twenty-eight, she became a ‘companion’ to Bradley Blackwell, seeing him one weekend a month and being compensated handsomely enough to ease her worries. Two years in, Lucy realizes she’s broken rule #1 and fallen in love. Afraid of losing him, Lucy keeps her feelings private, only for Bradley to begin acting strangely and breaking the rules himself. When she finds out the past that Bradley has kept hidden from her and the world, she begins questioning their whole relationship. The revelations leave her wondering if she is truly the one with the most to lose…or if he is.
Excerpt
His mouth descended upon mine. I opened instantly, hungry for my first taste of him and it didn’t disappoint. The taste of the brandy mixed with the light scent of his cologne filling my senses thanks to his closeness had me moaning into his mouth. He released my chin and slid his hand down to mine, tugging the tie out of my hands.
Our mouths still connected, he led me backward toward the bed until the underside of my legs connected with it. Our mouths parted as I fell onto my back. My eyes flew open only to see him taking off his shirt and tossing it aside.
“Put your hands above your head,” he commanded, his voice thick with desire and matching the look on his face. One that showed just how much he wanted to devour me. A similar look, I’m sure, to the one on mine as well. “One on top of the other, back to palm.”
I obeyed immediately and soon found my hands bound at the wrists with the tie, fastened snugly enough I couldn’t escape but not cut off circulation. Then he hovered over me, covering my body with his, one hand planted to the side of my head as the other traveled up one stockinged leg. His grey eyes glittered as they slid underneath my skirt, only to go molten at discovering the garter belt I wore. His hand paused, gaze clashing with mine as the corner of his mouth quirked up.
“You dressed for the occasion, I see,” Bradley said, the low timbre combined with his hot look sending shivers down my spine. “I’m pleased at your foresight, Lucy.”
Unable to escape his stare, one that watched me with such desire and amusement, I simply smiled and said, “If you’re happy, I’m happy.” And I meant it. He didn’t have to know that even though we’d discussed his preferences, I still found myself nervous and believing I wouldn’t be able to please him.
He didn’t look away, his eyes locked with mine as his hand moved up the rest of my thigh before sliding around to the curve of my ass, only to discover that it was bare. His moan at this revelation joined my gasp at the hot caress of his hand on a place nobody had touched me in a very long time. He took my mouth with his own, seeking entrance I easily gave him while his hand explored, sliding and cupping my backside.
He started to divest me of my clothing, pulling my skirt down. I kicked it off as his hands went to my shirt and giggled when he pulled his mouth away from mine, scowling down at me as he realized his error. “Shit. I forgot to take your shirt off before I tied your hands.”
I grinned, wiggling my fingers at him while trying to hide my embarrassment at my mostly naked state and resisted the urge to cover myself. “Out of practice, are you?”
He shook his head, refusing to answer as he straightened. He walked over to his nightstand and opened up the drawer. My eyes widened as he held up a pair of scissors and walked back toward me.
