Interview with romantic suspense author, Amy Deason!
Well, hello there, ladies and gents! Been awhile since I’ve had an author interview and what a great way to start than with romantic suspense author, Amy Deason! I’m halfway through her debut novel, ANGELS IN THE SHADOWS, and so far it’s delicious! Her hero, Seth, is to die for (literally) and you should all check him out for yourselves. ;) But more on that later. Without further ado…
Welcome, Amy! I’m thrilled to have you here. Tell us about your latest release.
Angel in the Shadows is a suspenseful romance novel. Good guy versus bad guy with an innocent young woman caught in the middle. Seth Reynolds is a part of a highly secret organization called The Perfect Order. His current mission has him undercover as a personal assistant to the wealthy billionaire, Vance Goldston. A billionaire that happens to have a God Complex and is intent on killing thousands of people for his own benefit. The plan to dispose of Vance is all set and ready to go until Madison Sinclair, a photographer covering a party at Vance’s mansion, inadvertently witnesses something she shouldn’t have. So now Seth has to keep her alive while still fulfilling his mission of taking Vance out.
And yes, this story is as awesome as it sounds! What was the hardest thing about writing this book? The easiest?
Believe it or not, the hardest part of writing this book was writing from Madison’s point of view. It took me a long time to get inside her head. However, the easiest part was writing Seth’s point of view. It’s kind of scary how easy his thoughts and words came out…
I’m totally on the same page as you (pun intended, ha). I definitely prefer to write from the male POV than female. If you could bring one of your characters (villain or hero) to life, who would you chose? Why?
I think if I could bring one of my characters to life, it would most likely be Seth. I choose him because there is just something so intriguing about someone that is able to disappear and reappear like magic all the while trying to do his best to save innocent lives.
I’d bring him to life for much different reasons. :P Paramount Pictures wants to make a movie about your latest novel. Who plays the main characters?
For Seth Reyonlds, I would choose Timothy Olyphant. If you have ever watched Hitman, then you have seen Seth Reynolds only bald. Timothy`s character is exactly how I picture Seth. Cold, ruthless, highly skilled but when a woman’m an comes into the picture, he is less than secure with the situation.
For Madison Sinclair, it would have to be Carey Mulligan. She has a pretty girl-next-door quality, which is perfect for Maddie.
For the evil Vance Goldston, it would be William Baldwin. Handsome, successful and a billionaire.
And for the anonymous Charlie Dubois, the leader of The Perfect Order, Cate Blanchett.
Awesome cast! Tell us a little about yourself.
Well, I have always loved to read and I’ve always wanted to be a writer. I am a busy mother of three and I am married to the most wonderful man in the world who I am totally in love with. I love sappy movies (Twilight-TOTALLY team Edward, Titanic-why couldn’t they have shared that big piece of wood or took turns at least, City of Angels, Remember Me, etc) and scary movies (although the characters in The Grudge and The Ring completely terrify me), and I am a sucker for borderline pretty guys (think Robert Pattinson or my delicious hubby :) )
OMG, I thought the same freaking thing in Titanic! I’m like WTF, share that piece of wood, damn it! Ugh. ANYWAY, tell us one thing about yourself your readers may not know about you.
Ok, here it goes…I am deathly afraid of grasshoppers. When I was little, my younger sister would chase me around the house with them. And let me tell you, it is absolutely horrifying to be chased by someone holding one of those nasty, alien-like, jumping things…
Haha! I don’t particularly care for them either, but I’ve never been terrified of insects (except maybe bees, but that’s because I’m afraid of going into anaphylactic shock, lol). But I digress. So I’m dying to know, what are you working on now?
Whenever I can catch a free moment (doesn’t happen every often), I work on the second book in The Perfect Order series–Stone Cold Angel. Or one of my other endeavors including a children’s book series and a serial killer series.
Sounds fantastic! Tell us where can we find you so we can keep up to speed on such endeavors. :D

Never Turn Your Back…
Never Reveal Your Name…
Never Surrender Your Heart…
Madison Sinclair is a smart-mouthed photographer that enjoys the simple things in life. Recently landing a job at one of Manhattan’s top imaging companies, she works hard to prove herself but often falls short of the mark. Taking pictures of the New York scenery, relaxing at home with a glass of wine, and caring for her stray cat is the highlight of her day. But when her best friend convinces her into covering a charity event thrown by a handsome billionaire, Madison’s life suddenly becomes anything but simple as she finds herself in a constant race for survival. There is nowhere she can turn, no one she can trust.
Seth Reynolds has been in the game a long time. He knows how to get in, get a job done, and get out with no complications and no witnesses. Trained to be cold and heartless, he is committed to follow through with this mission no matter what. Racing against an impossible time table, everything is in place to take out the madman intent on destroying New York City. But when the naïve Madison Sinclair stumbles into his world, all of his carefully laid plans go to hell.
Determined to do what is right at all costs, Seth must choose between the rules he’s lived by his entire life or saving Madison from a fate worse than death. If he follows orders, he will be an unsung hero, saving millions of innocent people. But if he risks his own life for Madison’s, the entire city will be in jeopardy. The choice should be easy. Risk one to save many. That’s the unbreakable code of The Perfect Order. But now, without even trying, Madison has gotten under his skin and inside his heart. With
the fate of the city resting in his hands, how he can do the right thing when he no longer knows what that is?

Oy. No more weekday frat parties for me, no matter how noble the cause, especially when I have a test the next day. What was I thinking? And last minute cramming with a headache was not a good idea either. Forget it. My eyes drifted to the clock.
And now I was late. Damn it. With a sigh, I threw down my pencil and scrambled up, my head throbbing. I traded my Eeyore jammies for skinny jeans and a fitted white t-shirt. Shoes, where were my shoes? Gah. I ducked and rooted around in the deep, dark spaces under my bed. Hmm, the green dress I borrowed from Sarah. Mental note: I need to return that. English book, various dust bunnies of uncertain lineage…there.
Sketchers on, I grabbed my backpack, turned up my iPod, and ran out the door. No time to primp.
Good thing the campus I lived on was small. There was a big central courtyard—the quad—filled with towering oak trees and wide-open spaces surrounded by squat school buildings and classrooms. If I hurried, I’d make it…
I raced into the quad out of breath and slowed, turning in a complete circle.
Huh.
No one around. Unease skittered through me on soft paws. The courtyard was always busy. I pulled my headphones out of my ears. Was there some sort of event I didn’t know about going on? The unnatural silence pressed in on me for a second as the echoes of my steps faded.
Then screams—men’s and women’s—poured from Main Street. I broke into a run and shot between the buildings toward the sound.
Cars littered the intersection. Some guy rear-ended someone else, causing a chain reaction down the road. A horn blared nearby and a faint breeze blew the smell of gasoline, smoke, and copper my way. Clusters of people stood among the wreckage.
Quite awesome!

Guest blog: Author Interview with J.C. Stockli
J.C. Stockli’s on my blog today talking about her latest release in the ADDICTIONS OF THE ETERNAL series! Full disclosure, I beta read these books and I thoroughly enjoyed them. My personal favorite characters are Rob and Evan (but that’s no surprise) and I just love the dark edge in this series. If you’re into dark paranormal fantasy, these books are definitely worth checking out. Read on to learn more about J.C.’s characters along with J.C. herself!
Welcome, J.C.! Tell us about your latest release.
THE SAVING is the second installment of my ADDICTIONS OF THE ETERNAL series, following its predecessor, THE NOTHINGNESS. The series focuses on a female protagonist, Evie Westvale, a small town girl with real world issues. Throughout her journey we’ll ride her waves of addiction and recovery, all through a paranormal lens. Along the way, we meet characters you’ll hate to love (or love to hate). Evie’s struggles deal heavily on physical stimulation, so while the book is not targeted as erotic, it involves adult content.
I love stories that detail the struggles of flawed characters, particularly those with depression and addiction. Of course, such stories aren’t easy to write. What was the hardest part about writing this book? The easiest?
The hardest? *snickers* I would say getting over the fact that I have family reading sex scenes that I write… but really, the most difficult part of writing this series has been depicting an addict with empathy and in a way that readers will root for her recovery rather than judge her. I want to be honest and not glorify addiction, but not demonize it either.
The easiest thing to write were the scenes with Lucca. I’ve been told my writing comes alive when he pops up on the page.
I can certainly agree with that! If you could bring one of your characters (villain or hero) to life, who would you chose? Why?
In a perfect world, I would have both Lucca and Evan—the greatest menage for my warped mind. ;) But dammit, if I have to choose… I’m going to have to choose Lucca (I’m so sorry Evan!!!). He was the first, clearest vision I had with this story, and as noted above, apparently that shows in my writing. He’s my ultimate, my darkest fantasy.
Not surprised. ;) Paramount Pictures wants to make a movie about your latest novel. Who plays the main characters?
DUDE! This is actually much more difficult of a question to answer than it looks, but here goes nothing:
Evie Westvale: I’m kinda torn on this one, but you know what, I’m going for it… gimme Jennifer Lawrence.
Lucca Caro: (didn’t know he had a last name, huh?) Guh! I tried and I tried and I tried… this was NOT easy. I’ve found some articles online saying he wants to break into acting, so I say let’s give David Beckham a shot, because he is the PERFECT Lucca.
Evan Carver: Oof! Again, not easy considering the perfect match to Evan Carver is a musician… but, let’s see… with a little hesitation, I’m going to say Jensen Ackles (mostly because I still think of him as Eric Brady from Days of Our Lives LOL)
Nate Schuster: (grins) I actually adore Nate… Chris Hemsworth (though I’ll settle for Charlie Hunnam)
Blythe Delaney: Easy! Rachel Bilson
Khan (no surnames back in his day): Not sure he’s “Hollywood” status… but can we recruit Omar Borkan Al Gala, please?
Rob Miller (for those who loved THE NOTHINGNESS): Chris Pine (no hesitation)
Did I miss any? Ha!
Damn, I would definitely watch that movie! :D So tell us a little about yourself.
Aside from being a neurotic writer, I’m actually a full-time professional and mother of two. I adore my husband (even though he thinks I pay more attention to Lucca). My first love though is music. I envy anyone with a musical bone in their body.
Agreed on the music front. Tell us one thing about yourself your readers may not know about you.
I’ve had a lot of random side gigs throughout my professional career, as noted in my bio, but I also had a radio show in college. I used to focus my show on metal as much as possible and had one guy who called up during every single show to request Sean Olson by Korn from The Crow: City of Angels soundtrack. At least I knew I had one dedicated listener LOL
Needless to say, much like many writers, I am heavily influenced by music. Many scenes in my writing are choreographed to specific songs. I will not tell you which ones, because I’d much rather give you, as the reader, the ability to interpret the scenes yourself—make them your own. I feel like there’s some mysticism lost when I tell you the song playing. I like to keep that mystery intact.
Also agreed, although sometimes I can’t help myself. ;) What are you working on now?
At this very moment, I am finalizing a standalone dark/urban fantasy/PNR about witchcraft and demonic possession called, HEALING THE WITCH OF ADELAIDE GLEN. I’m hoping to get this out before Christmas, but maybe the New Year. Make sure you keep an eye on me in social media though, because I will be posting teasers from now until then. ;)
I’m also in the process of outlining the next stage in Evie’s journey. Book 3 is titled THE DESECRATION, and I cannot wait to get into it part of the series. I don’t want to give away any spoilers, but we’re gonna get weird and definitely erotic. It’s time to let Lucca come out and play.
Awesome and I cannot wait to read it! Where can we find you?

The Great New England Vampire Panic by Debbie Christiana
Guess who I have on my blog today? The awesome Debbie Christiana! And she has an awesome blog post that I’m so excited to share with you all. It’s about vampires! And it’s set in CT and RI! And it’s just freaking AWESOME! *squeals* You don’t want to miss this. :D
Without further ado…
Thank you Linda, for hosting me today. I chose this story because it’s set in Connecticut and Rhode Island, two states you know well, and I found it fascinating and perfect for Halloween.
The Great New England Vampire Panic was a phenomenon that occurred from the late 1700’s until the late 1800’s here in New England.
The townsfolk believed vampires were rising from their graves and draining the life from their family members. The only solution was to exhume the bodies, remove the heart, burn it and inhale the smoke. Sometimes the corpses were beheaded and placed face down in the grave.
This grim history was never a secret, but came to light again in 1990, when twenty-nine unmarked graves of the Walton and Ray families were discovered by kids playing in a gravel mine in Jewett City, Connecticut, a town near the Rhode Island border. The bodies were all anatomically correct except for one. “The skeleton had been beheaded; skull and thighbones rested atop the ribs and vertebrae. It looked like a skull-and-crossbones motif, a Jolly Roger. I’d never seen anything like it,” Nicholas Bellantoni, the Connecticut State Archaeologist recalls.
He placed a call to Michael Bell, a Rhode Island folklorist and vampire exhumation expert and received the history of the Ray family, backed up with by 1854 Jewett City, CT newspaper article.
The first fatality was twenty-four year old, Lemuel Ray in 1945, followed his father, Henry in 1851, another brother, Elisha, in 1853 and Henry Jr., in 1854 from consumption. The disrupted grave was consistent with the practice of keeping the dead, dead and the remaining family safe.
A few miles away, in Exeter, Rhode Island, in 1892, Mercy Lena Brown and her two sisters died from consumption. Their brother, Edwin came down with the dreaded disease and the father gave permission to exhume his daughters. The two sister’s bodies had decomposed, but Mercy’s, due to the cold winter months, was intact. After cutting her open, they discovered her heart still had blood in it, proof she was rising up and feeding off her brother. They removed her heart, burned it, mixed it with water and gave it to Edwin to drink.
He died two months later.
A consumption (tuberculosis) outbreak had ravished New England during this time. A horrible disease, “The emaciated figure strikes one with terror,” reads one 18th century description, “the forehead covered with drops of sweat; the cheeks painted with a livid crimson, the eyes sunk…the breath offensive, quick and laborious, and the cough so incessant as to scarce allow the wretched sufferer time to tell his complaints.” Michael Bell agreed adding, “…the symptoms progressed in such a way that it seemed like something was draining the life and blood out of somebody.”
Michael Bell has been involved in the examination of over 80 vampire exhumations in New England and shared a few facts:
-Maine and Massachusetts flipped the “vampire” face down, refraining from removing organs, but my beautiful state of Connecticut and our lovely neighbor, the Ocean State, Rhode Island chose to remove the heart, burn in, making sure the smoke was inhaled by those who wanted to remain alive, as well as sometimes beheading the corpses and flipping in face down.
-A common practice in Vermont was to hold the heart burning as a town event on the green.
-Henry David Thoreau wrote about a 20-year-old Dartmouth student, Frederick, dying of consumption and his family allowing the son’s heart removed and burned at the blacksmith’s forge. Soon after Fred’s mother, sister and two brothers died of consumption.
-The Providence Journal covered Mercy Brown’s exhumation and the story spread to England. Some believe it may have inspired Bram Stroker’s Dracula.
-Visitors to Mercy’s grave leave plastic vampire teeth and other gifts to remember her.
-The Ray Family also received press at the time of their disinterment and became known as The Jewett City Vampires.
-Dr. Robert Koch discovered the bacterium that causes TB/consumption in March of 1882, but medical news didn’t always make it to rural New England in timely matter.
So ends the sad, tragic and gruesome tale of the New England Vampire scare.
Have a fabulously creepy Halloween!!!
Is that awesome or what? :D Yet another reason why I absolutely heart New England, and as a Providence native, this makes me grin like a fool (Bram Stoker’s Dracula, haha!). Kissed by the Reaper
Rebekah R. Ganiere
Some loves are worth a battle with both heaven and hell to keep.
BLURB:
Rose committed an unpardonable sin right before she died. As penance, she has been reaping souls for Lucifer for over twenty years. On Halloween night she finds herself in Podunk nowhere ushering souls back to hell when she runs into the mysteriously handsome Gabriel who’s not at all what he seems. After chasing him into a cornfield and battling an angel to get Gabriel’s soul, she leaves with more questions than answers.
Gabriel is an angel hiding out as a jumper. A soul that jumps from body to body to stay hidden on Earth. But when he finds himself mortally wounded there is only one person he can turn to for protection. The feisty and beautiful reaper who tried to kill him the year before.
With Gabriel recuperating in her bed, Rose is summoned by her boss to hell where he makes her a proposal. Find the jumper Gabriel and deliver his soul, and she will be set free. Fail and become Lucifer’s bride forever. It should be an easy choice. Problem is, Gabriel is the first person Rose has been able to touch without scaring to death in the last twenty years. And just his presence has begun to bring back hidden memories from her human life. In the end Rose will have to make the ultimate decision. Choosing Gabriel or choosing herself.
EXCERPT:
“Did you know there’s a black guy slumped on the floor in the last aisle?” said one.
“What?” Alarm bells went off in her head. “Crap.” The guy from the back door. She’d completely forgotten about him.
Rose rushed to the side of the counter, threw the separator up and raced down the last aisle. The bell tinkled for the front door, but she kept moving.
She found him splayed on the floor, face down. “Dammit.” She knelt by his side and rolled him over. “Hey. Hey, wake up.” She patted his cheek.
His eyes fluttered open and went from hazel to golden and then back again. “Rose.”
Her heart pounded. A Jumper. “Elijah?”
He nodded. No wonder he knew her name.
She threw his arm over her shoulder and helped him into a seated position.
“How did you find me?” She glanced around while trying to get Elijah to his feet. A Jumper, especially a hurt one wasn’t the norm for her. As a Reaper it was her job to play bounty hunter and send Jumpers to hell. They didn’t usually come asking for help. Someone was on his tail.
“I’ve known all year.” Blood dribbled down his chin.
She laced her fingers between his, got him up, and leaned him on the shelf. She needed to move him out of sight and get everyone out of the store. No! She needed to get his butt out of her store. She still bore the scar from her last visit to Lucifer’s pad a year prior when she’d let him slip through her fingers.
“Did you take the angelbreath?” she asked.
He nodded. “The whole container.”
“You gotta leave. Now. At sundown I’ll have to reap you.”
He gaze connected with hers. “I’ve missed you.”
Her gut tightened and the feeling that she knew him from somewhere rushed through her again. All year she’d tried to forget him, but it was hard to forget an angel Jumper. Especially one who looked at her the way he did.
“Ah, damn. Come on.” She half dragged, half carried him toward the front of the store. It was slow and he stumbled several times but they finally made it to the curtain separating the store from the back rooms. She glanced toward the front counter. The goths were gone. So was the merchandise. Stupid girls. They’d pay for stealing from her.
She used her hip to nudge the curtain aside and helped him through the box maze over to a large red chaise lounge. She threw him down on it. He grunted and tried to pull himself into a sitting position.
“What the hell happened to you?” She looked around and located a box of tissues. Pulling out several, she dabbed his mouth, wiping away the blood.
“Reapers.”
She stopped dabbing. “Reapers plural?”
“Three.”
“Reapers don’t work together.”
He gave her a winning smile. “I’m a special case.”

How being a doctor has made me a better writer.
Well, hello thar! Long time, no blog! :P Today I’m talking about how being a doctor has made me a better writer, the second in a two part series Carole Ann Moleti and I decided to conjure up for everyone. :) To see Carole’s awesome post, check it out here.
Although I’ve been a writer my entire life, I decided to become a physician in college since I’d fallen in love with medicine after working in pathology for a few years. I’d never even considered a career in writing, since I didn’t think it was a “real thing.” I grew up poor, so options such as writing, painting, and photography weren’t valid. My father had always told me that success was the ability to support your family and live comfortably, and in my mind, success meant a high-powered career (obviously, I was wrong–success is much more than a career…

Originally posted on Romance Debuts:
I am excited to host L.D. Rose, doctor by day, committed writer by night (or weekend…or any other time off!). Her debut novel, Releasing the Demons, has been described as intense and action-packed with heart-pounding, hold-your-breath scenes; as you can imagine, her readers anxiously await another book!
Here, L.D. talks about making time to write, finding inspiration from music, and beating her muse into submission (I’m sure many of you can relate!). Read on for her insights and for excerpts from her debut.
How long have you wanted to be a romance writer?
This may sound crazy, but I didn’t start taking writing seriously until I went to medical school. Don’t get me wrong, I love being a doctor, but I’ve been a writer my entire life and I always wanted to see my work published some day. Working in the medical field and watching people become sick (and…

BLURB:
British Alpha wolf Jake Marsden spends his days among humans, pursuing a lucrative music career and avoiding his pack’s politics. When his current DJ tour takes him to the US, he stops in Los Lobos to visit family, and runs into the one Wolf he never wants to see again—the mate who rejected his claim.
While visiting her brother in Los Lobos, free-spirited Lexi Luparell is shocked to encounter the Wolf she’d denied when they were teens. Now she must face her guilt for the cruel way she spurned him all those years ago, make amends, and admit the truth. Jake was right all along—they’re meant to mate.
Lexi would love to explore the mate concept and her overwhelming attraction to virile, alpha Wolf Jake, but he wants nothing to do with her. How can she break down his defenses when she’s the reason he built them in the first place?
Jake dates only human women now. Lexi had her shot at being his mate, and she threw it away. But when her life is threatened, he may have to rethink his position and do whatever it takes to claim his one true mate.

EXCERPT:
A billion butterflies battered Lexi’s stomach. She shifted her attention from Ross to the piano. Sure enough, the music had stopped, and Jake faced her from his seat on the bench. Man oh man, the heavy stare from those sky blue eyes sent shivers skittering down her spine. His gaze held the same intensity she remembered from him as a kid, as if he saw into the heart of people, exposing their deepest secrets. It had driven her crazy back then, and she’d spent much time teasing him, pulling his hair, trying to distract him from being so serious all of the damn time. They were teenagers—partying was supposed to be their sole focus.
With his ice-blue stare locked on her, Jake rose to his feet, all taut muscle and predatory power. His energy swept over her like a tsunami, forcing all of the moisture to abandon her mouth while parts much lower wept with want. Her inner Wolf howled, answering the call of this Alpha, the first Dominant male ever to make her sit up and take notice. Holy crap. Her muscles shook with the need to bound over to him, jump in his arms, wrap her legs around his torso and writhe against his hard, hot, tattooed body.
Jake said something to his uncle then stalked straight at her, cutting a path right through the middle of the tables and the many, too-curious patrons.
A whimper escaped her throat.
Surprise sparked in her brother’s brown eyes. “You’re kidding me. Him?” He burst out laughing. “Wow, sis, that’s some major, big-time irony right there.”
Darci’s expression conveyed her bewilderment. “Now what are you two talking about?”
Her annoying brother grinned. “See that angry Alpha headed our way? My sister here rejected him when they were teens and he’s apparently her—”
Lexi socked her brother in the ribs. “Shut it, Ross.”
“Ouch.” Ross rubbed his side and chuckled at her plight. The jerk. “Come on, Lexi, you have to admit the hilarity of the situation.”
No, she did not. Nor did she have to admit that J-Bird was right all those years ago. He was her mate. O to the M to the G…. They were mates.
Even so, he didn’t look happy to see her at all. In fact, he looked positively enraged. Shit, shit and triple shit. What a mess she’d made eight years ago. Well, she was woman enough to pull on her big-girl panties and fix it. She straightened her spine and lifted her chin in challenge, meeting Jake’s stormy stare. He halted before her.
I can do this. “Hey J-Bird. Nice to see you.” Lovely. Her voice sounded like she’d eaten the gravel from the lot in front of Gee’s bar. Embarrassment heated her cheeks.
One breath, two breaths, three…. J-Bird glared. Tension coiled between them in the silence. Lexi bit the inside of her cheek to avoid babbling at him. She’d said hello. It was his turn. Damn it, J-Bird, say something. He wasn’t making this easy.
“Alexina.” His arctic tone dismissed her and slapped her in the face at the same time, leaving her disappointed and confused. No one called her by her full name. No one except her parents when she’d done something wrong as a kid. He might as well have said, “Screw you,” while slamming a door in her face.
His focus shifted to her brother. “Hello, Ross. Been a while.” His hand shot out to grasp her brother’s in a cordial shake.
“Good to see you, Jake. Join us for lunch? My treat. We can catch up on old times.”
“No, thank you. I’m done. Nice to see you again, Ross.” Jake nodded at Darci. “Miss.” He brushed past them and out the door.
“What. Just. Happened?” The, “I’m done,” he uttered in his delicious British accent seemed aimed more at her than at her brother’s offer. And the fact he hadn’t even looked at her before stalking out all sexy in his gloom and doom? Yeah, that hurt.
“I think you know, sis.” The amusement left her brother’s face and sympathy glimmered in his gaze. “Question is, what are you going to do about it?”
She’d never run from a fight in her life. She wouldn’t start now. “Grab a table. I’ll be back in a second. Or not.” She ignored her brother’s knowing grin and hurried out the door.
