Book Spotlight: Crow Dancer by Abrielle Sarah Fuerst
Got another awesome book spotlight this week! CROW DANCER is the second book in Abrielle Sarah Fuerst’s latest paranormal fantasy series. Check out the blurb and excerpt below, gotta love that voice! :D
BLURB:
Sorceress for Hire. Employ at your own risk.
I’ll give you the whole story.
I had spent three weeks upon a thrice-damned ship. Don’t ask me why I did it; for now we’ll say only that it was necessary. Don’t ask me why I chose a ship when I’m afraid of drowning.
I rode a fisher vessel to the nearest village with a port. Hid out a whole day, knowing just how close I was to being captured. I bought passage on seven ships under seven different names–and then I slipped away on one of the few vessels that I hadn’t paid for.
You could say that I’m wanted.
I go by Aryin now. I am a necromancer. I am of the most skilled of those within my trade, and I am fleeing for my life within enemy country, to escape a decree from mine that will kill me if I’m found alive.
Though secretly sometimes, though none must ever know it, I am still Navyra of Yoshai.

EXCERPT:
I didn’t make that sound for three whole days. Not while my royal family wept the contents of their hearts, not while our servants made a fair show of pretending. Not until long after the cast of gold and opal was peeled from the dead face in a blazing likeness of my father and mounted to the wall beside a hundred ancestors, and the body itself was embalmed so it would last forever. I waited at the staircase while Mother and Jared and a dozen old retainers dripped into the tomb to give their final reverences; I lingered in the archway as Uncle spoke the rite of passing. I did not look at the body. I kept looking for the ghost, but no one ever found it.
They didn’t find the Dancers, either. They had disappeared long before the slender dart was pulled from my father’s neck, long before I ever heard my refined mother wailing. They left people footprints, yes. But I couldn’t ask a footprint why it had to kill.
ABOUT THE AUTHOR:
Abrielle holds a third degree black belt in Taekwondo, has five younger siblings and harbors a crazy fear of driving on the freeway. She spends so much time pretending to be a ninja that she now makes a living at it, travelling the country teaching martial arts to kids and self-defense for women.
She is a rogue and nonconformist.
She thinks she can sing, but don’t let the assumption fool you.
Abrielle writes about kick-butt women that take no prisoners and don’t take no for an answer.

Romance Month – LD Rose
Continuing with our romance theme for this month we have my good friend LD Rose with us today!!! I love this first date story! Love it!! :)
How I met my husband and our (unromantic) first date… by L.D. Rose
The moment my hubby-to-be walked through the door of the bagel shop I worked at, I was madly in love.
Or at least madly in lust.
At nineteen and on the prowl, work was the last place I wanted to meet men. Not only did I reek of onion bagels and cream cheese, but I wore a silly purple hat with dark circles under my eyes from being up early in the morning. I purposely volunteered to work the drive-thru every day so people wouldn’t have to stare at my tired ass for an extended period of time.
But when hubby strolled in at 5AM on a Saturday morning, my…

Character Interview with Dr. Peyton Chase!
Hello, beautiful people! I have a very special character interview to start off the New Year with–Dr. Peyton Chase from PEYTON’S DOLL by Felicity Kates! Whattya know, a fellow doctor, except we’re from very different worlds (well, maybe not that different, LOL). I’m thrilled to have him on my blog today and he’s quite fun. ;) Read on and find out for yourself!
Well, hello, Dr. Chase! Welcome! Can you tell us a little about yourself?
Yeah, okay…*puts empty glass on the mess hall table and leans back in his chair* Well, my name is Peyton, Peyton Chase. I live on Earth, New Earth we call it now, because it’s a new beginning for humanity. It’s 31 years, actually, after the interstellar Arkology ship that my parents were on came back to Earth from surveying the nearby solar systems for a new planet to colonize, only they couldn’t find a suitable one, and when they came back to Earth…everyone was long dead. It was caused by a viral outbreak, we think. We haven’t found any survivors, or a way to make sure it doesn’t happen again. So we live in colonies we created from the dome habitats we carried on board our ship. They were supposed to be for settling on a new planet. Who knew we’d be using them to re-settle Earth instead?
Wow, fascinating! Makes me wonder what kind of virus took out Earth (I could certainly think of a few). Tell us more about your work.
I’m trained as a doctor, but I work mostly as a mechanical engineer now, fixing broken down machinery and robotics at Deliverance Dome, this small colony where I live. *glances around at the mostly empty tables and chairs in the mess hall and frowns*
That’s a definitely a huge leap! Do you like it?
Yeah. I like it. I keeps me busy and my mind off…well, it keeps my mind OFF, which is just the way I like it.
I can totally relate. That’s why I write. ;) If you had a day to do anything you wanted, what would you do?
Hell. I’d do what I try to do every day; figure out a way to survive. Which has gotten a lot more complicated lately, ever since a certain android walked into my life.
Do you mean, Hell-en? :P But more on Helen later. Favorite alcoholic beverage?
*grins* Whisky. And lots of it. How about a top-up on my glass? *pushes it forward expectantly*
*sees that it’s barely touched* Bottoms up first, buddy! *refills her own glass and winks* What’s your favorite music?
I don’t know. Something loud, with a good beat to keep my mind off of Hell. I can’t stop thinking about her. Everything she’s been through. And what it all means that she even exists. A living android. The hope of humanity’s future. And her creators treated her like shit. How am I supposed to help her when I couldn’t even save my own wife? I should never have opened that fucking box that she came in.
I’ve got plenty of loud music we could listen to, but I’m curious about Helen. What do you love most about her? And why do you call her Hell?
Love? You think I love her? Just because she’s got a sweet smile and I can’t stop missing her when she’s not around, doesn’t mean I love her. And I call her Hell, because that’s what she’s turned my life into. Living Hell. The way her eyes light up when she laughs. She has feelings. Feelings! Whoever heard of an android like that? I just want to protect her, so those bastards at The Factory will never hurt her again.
Aw, well it sounds to me like she’s brought you a little happiness in the desolate New Earth. Before your story began, what were your hopes for the future?
Hope? For the future? *glances around the empty seats again and laughs bitterly* Shit, my biggest hope was to never see the bottom of my whisky glass.
*cocks a brow and glances at the bottom of hers* So what changed?
Hell is what changed. Opening that box and finding her inside. That changed everything. *puts untouched glass of whisky on the table and pushes it aside* Is it better now? No. It’s more chaotic. She’s trouble with a capital T. But…I slept for twelve fucking hours last night. Twelve fucking hours. That’s more than I’ve slept in days. And when I woke up, she was there, smiling at me. And it felt…good to see that. I’ll admit that.
Sleep…that sounds heavenly right now! See? She brings you happiness and I’m glad to hear it! ;) Unfortunately, it looks like our time is running out. *sigh* We’ll have to do this again sometime! Any parting thoughts for me and my fellow readers?
Thanks for the drink. I’ve got to get going anyway. I need to go repair some machinery that broke down. And figure out what to do about Hell. I don’t know if I can handle her staying with me, but there’s one thing for sure. She’s never going back to that place she came from. The Fucking Factory. Those bastards are going to pay for everything they’ve done to Hell and to the rest of the New Earth colony. I’ll make sure of it.
Sounds like a plan to me! *downs the rest of his whisky* Need any help? :P

She isn’t what the doctor ordered, but she’s just what he needs
1000 years after Earth has been devastated by a viral plague, the few survivors turn to genetic engineering and advanced robotics to ensure the future of the human race. But not everyone is happy with artificial life living amongst humans, least of all Peyton Chase, a doctor with a harrowing past.
When he’s ‘gifted’ with a state-of-the-art companion that he can’t send back, Peyton is far from pleased. She’s sentient. She’s sexy. She’s everything he doesn’t want complicating his life. He nicknames her Hell. She nicknames him lots of unladylike things, at least in her mind. Because there are rules to a relationship like theirs. Master and Slave. She’s supposed to obey him in all things. But if that’s true, why can’t she stop meddling in his life?
Unfortunately, time is running out for Hell. Her own desperate past is about to catch up to her with deadly results.
EXCERPT:
“You saved my life when it would’ve been easier to let me die,” said Hell. An incredible realization, especially considering killing her had been the thought most on Peyton’s mind when he’d initiated the scan. “Why?”
The warmth of his arm pulled away, but his comforting scent lingered. He picked up a nearby cloth and busied himself with wiping down the scanning array’s control panel. “I swore an oath once, to help those in need regardless of personal opinion.”
“But you don’t practice regularly anymore. Doesn’t that relieve you of clinical obligation?”
A flush spread from the deep “V” of his tunic and up his neck. His gaze snapped to hers, hot and hard. “Would you rather have died?”
“No.” Ignoring the numb tingle in her limbs, she twisted so her feet hung off the scanner bed and touched the icy floor. “I’m grateful for your help. But I don’t want to be an obligation. I’ve caused you enough trouble already.” Chest suddenly tight, she sucked in a breath. “Is there someone else here that I can stay with?”
“You want to stay with someone else?” He tossed the cloth down on the scanning bed, his lips a thin line.
“No, but I figured it’s what you wanted.”
“What I want—” he snapped, then stopped. He turned away from her, his body rigid as he thrust his fingers through his dark hair. His face was set in hard lines when he turned back to her. “What I want is to keep you safe. You’re the most important thing that’s ever happened to humanity, and those bastards—” He stopped again, as if whatever the bastards in question had done was too difficult for him to say. He shook his head and tried again. “I got a call from Markus Willbright from The Factory, just before you woke up. They’re looking for you, Hell.”
Willbright. Willbright. “Wait…” She clutched her temples as she slid off the scanner and stood. “I remember him!” She glanced at Peyton and caught his grim nod. But the excitement, whisking through her at the fact she could actually remember something, quickly faded. Why did that name make her feel uncomfortable? She had a vague impression of a quiet man of mixed Asian ancestry who’d come to see her in her glass-walled room. He’d only ever looked at her and tapped on his tablet, recording whatever it was that scientists recorded, then disappeared again behind closed doors. But Peyton obviously hated him by the anger flaring in his eyes.
“What did you tell him?”
“I lied. I told him I’d never heard of a Bio-roid before, let alone seen one, and said I was quite happy with my new Factory-made sex doll, thank you very much.”
He’d lied to protect her? She sat back down on the scanner with a thump. “Did he believe you?”
“Probably not.” Peyton’s attention was fixed on retrieving a data cube from the scanner array, the handsome planes of his face set hard. Clearly all of this was a burden to him that he’d rather not carry.
“Wouldn’t it have been easier to have just told him the truth and sent me back?”
The flush deepened across his cheeks, giving his tired expression a fevered cast. “No.”
“Why?”
“Because of this.” He held up the translucent blue data cube for her to see before closing his fingers over it again. “I managed to piece together some of the fragmented engrams rupturing your hippocampus.”
“And?” she prompted after it became apparent he wasn’t going to say anything further.
“And, like I told you before, you’re never going back to The Factory again.”
Coming soon…in February 10, 2016! The New Earth series continues.
PEYTON’S DOLL–Part Two
The truth won’t always set you free…
Things heat up in part 2 when Peyton has his hands full…of Hell. Despite his misgivings, their chemistry cannot be denied. He’s driven to protect and help her, but is there a place for her in his life? If it’s not enough that the revelations of her past at The Factory threaten to break their tenuous relationship apart. Between the appearances of Peyton’s meddling Aunt Joanna, a truly horrible breakfast, a chance encounter with an ex-lover, and the crack of a whip on his ass, Peyton may not survive to see what life with Hell has in store for him next.

The Art of Leading a Double Life
(JB does it right!)
I’m curious…how many authors out there separate their writing careers and their day jobs entirely? And readers, are you aware authors do this?
I’m certainly one of them.
I wasn’t sure what to talk about here today at the SMP blog, but a few nights ago, I had some downtime at the hospital while working a night shift. I had my iPad with me, so I loaded up Spotify and played some music to fill the silence in the reading room.
One of the techs entered as Jay-Z’s beats thumped against the walls and she asked me to check out a study. I gladly pulled it up and she kept looking at me funny.
“What’s wrong?” I asked.
“You’re listening to Jay-Z.”
“Oh, sorry, I can change it if you don’t like him.” (and for those who know me, Jay-Z is one of the most benign…

New Year, New Banner, New Goals, and just NEWS!
Hello, my lovelies!
First post of the year and I’ve got so much to tell you!
I hope your holidays were wonderful and you had a bedazzling New Year. Mine weren’t too shabby and I ended the year off with a bang (!).
On December 29, 2015, I signed a three book contract with Soul Mate Publishing! The next book in the Order of the Senary series, BLACK BULLET, is slated for release in late summer/early fall and BEAUTIFUL LIAR (Dax’s book!) along with FURIOUS ANGELS (Kasen and Ronnie’s book!) are in the pipeline! *insert excessive exclamation points*
I’m so thrilled to able to share more books from the Senary world with you and hope you’ll enjoy them too. :D
I’ve also started a newsletter with MailChimp. I’m still figuring the whole thing out, but if you want to sign up to keep updated about the series (along with anything else I’ve been up to), click the link below. It’ll likely be quarterly and I promise not to spam anyone (besides, I’m not sure what I would spam you with, haha). I’ll likely be doing sneak peeks, giveaways and the occasional author feature. :)
Sign up HERE.
I’m contemplating starting a Facebook group, but I’m not sure if it would garner any interest. We’ll see. ;)
I can’t complain too much about 2015. I published my first novel, worked my way through my fledgling year of residency, and settled into my first home. Met lots of new people, made new friends, and lost a few along the way. But I’m never one to stare too hard at the past and prefer to look toward the future. So, without further ado, here are my goals for 2016.
1.) Finish BEAUTIFUL LIAR.
Dax’s book is already nearly halfway written. I started it awhile back then decided to write Jon’s book (BLACK BULLET) instead. Now it’s Frosty’s turn for the spotlight! I’m hoping to finish at least the first draft before the summer (or before I start official edits on BB). I’ve got so much mischief planned for this one! It’ll definitely be sexier just by nature of the heroine (which I won’t reveal quite yet ;)) and Dax is certainly going to “rock the boat” with his brothers. I can’t wait to start working on it again!
2.) Study more.
Studying most days of the week is an essential part of being a resident physician (or at least, in my field). I’ve managed to juggle this pretty well for the most part, but I could always do more (I could always do more of everything, LOL). So I’m going to work a little harder at this so I can reach geniushood. :P
3.) Get back up to six mile runs and thirty mile bike rides.
I’ve failed miserably at this. I do manage to work out at least 2-3 days a week, but it’s not enough (both for my body and my mood). I used to be in EXCELLENT physical shape before and during medical school and I’ve definitely fallen off the wagon. I want to feel good about myself again, both mentally and physically.
4.) Eat healthier.
NOT. I love junk food way too much. Besides, I eat relatively well anyway. See number 3. :P
5.) Read more fiction.
I have a bookshelf and an eReader packed with novels. I want to try to at least read fifteen novels this year in between all of the above, which isn’t a lot for most, but it’s a lot for me!
And that’s pretty much it. I’ll be living in D.C. for a month next Sept-Oct for a class my residency requires, so I hope to explore the nation’s capital more as I’ve only visited once before. I don’t plan to do any traveling this year (short on the cash, big on loans), but I may do a short trip to Key West if hubby and I go stir crazy. We’ll see!
Do you make resolutions or goals for the New Year? If you do, I’d love to hear them!
And finally, thank you again, dear reader, for visiting and for sticking around during my wacky ride to publication and beyond. Here’s to an even better 2016!

The Many Flavors of Temptation by Anna Durand
Hello there, my darling readers! I’m thrilled to have the fabulous Anna Durand on my blog today, author of steamy contemporary and paranormal romance (a few of my faaaaavorite kinds). She’s here to discuss the flavors of temptation, particularly of the physical variety (food, men, more of my favorites!). Read on to find out more and check out her brand new (tempting) release!
~~~
Have you ever been tempted to do something you thought you shouldn’t do? Come on, admit. I won’t make fun of you. :-) We’ve all experienced temptation in some form, whether we care to fess up to it or not. I battle it every time I walk past a bag of chocolate-covered peanuts and they tease me with their silky chocolate coating, spiced up with a hint of sensuous salt. Those naughty little seducers!
I confess I also enjoy gazing upon photos of shirtless men, which explains why my book covers feature bare-chested hunks. Of course, I adore men of all ilks, even those who may have a bit of a paunch, because sex appeal comes from more than outward appearance. I can be tempted by a nerdy guy, an older man with gray hair and laugh lines, or an average guy with no big muscles but plenty of humor and heart.
Since I write romance novels, though, the heroes of my books tend to have six-pack abs, but they also have good hearts, courage, and loyalty. They falter on occasion, struggling with the question of what’s right versus what they want or what must be done. In the end, though, they always come through for the heroine and save the world — or save something less grandiose, like the heroine’s faith in men.
In my new book Tempted by a Kiss, the hero, Adam, works hard (yes, there’s a pun in that phrase!) to entice his best friend, Mel, into taking their lifelong friendship to a new level. He’s a good man but a womanizer, a loyal man who lusts for his best friend. I love contradictions in characters, and I love thrusting them into temptation so strong they need all their willpower to fight the inevitable.
What’s the one temptation you fight hardest to resist? I’ve love to hear about it!
Let’s hear it, people! We want to know your darkest secrets. ;)
And now for TEMPTED BY A KISS:
Mel Thompson just dumped her cheating ex after two years together. Now she’s determined to understand the allure of casual sex by having a steamy fling of her own at a notoriously raunchy underground club. When her best friend, Adam Caras, catches on to her plan, he makes a surprising offer to derail her. If she wants a hot fling, he’ll give it to her.
Who better than Adam, renowned lady-killer, to demonstrate the erotic pleasures of a one night stand? Sex could ruin their friendship, but after a soul-searing kiss, Mel fears one night may never be enough.
EXCERPT:
This time, he offered me his hand, palm up. I stared at it. My stomach fluttered, though I had no clue why. I’d danced with Adam a number of times, at weddings and parties.
A strange warmth rushed through me, but evaporated in an instant. The hand, the one attached to the arm of my best friend, waited patiently. I settled my palm in his. He curled his fingers around my hand. I hopped off the stool and let him guide me toward the dance floor. The music had segued from an up-tempo number to a slow, seductive beat with an enticing melody, played on exotic instruments. The song conjured visions of a Middle Eastern palace, belly dancers, and hot, dark men with lascivious intentions.
We sidled between the other dancers, wending our way across the dance floor on the hunt for a vacant slot. At last, we broke out of the masses into a cramped space just wide enough for the two of us, forcing me to move closer to Adam. He pivoted on his heels to face me and, keeping my hand in his, lifted it in a ballroom dancing position. His other hand lightly rested on my hip. This was what I expected from a dance with Adam. Then he dragged me into him, my body suddenly crushed against his heat. My heart skipped. The strobes had given way to soft, pulsing, golden lights. In the twilight of the floor, I couldn’t make out his expression. Entwined with Adam, aware of every hard line of his muscles, I was paralyzed.
