Fall On Your Knees

This upside-down world will knock you in the gut and break your heart.
Today was one of those days. I wanted to pick up a big eraser and wipe away the headlines. I wanted to right a wrong.
I longed for truth and justice in a world filled with lies, confusion, and oppression.
Thankfully, this world is not my home. One day soon, my King will come and make all things new. He reigns over all.
So, tonight, I put on my big girl pants and stopped whining about what I cannot control. I chose to take my eyes off my crazy, out of control circumstances, and I placed them firmly on Him.
I chose to worship Him in the midst of it all, and He softly and tenderly reminded me of what is true and right and eternally unchanging.
Perhaps you can relate. Are you harried and troubled by your present day reality?
In the midst of it all, fall on your knees.
It’s when you look up that you remember that He taught us to love one another. You remember that His law is love and His Gospel is peace.
Christ is King.
He will break every chain.
Christ is King.
He will crush all oppression.
A new and glorious morn is coming.
Let all that is within us praise His holy name.
Something to think about…

Let Every Heart Prepare Him Room
Photo CreditA close friend confessed to me that she is feeling a great deal of anxiety as we draw closer to Christmas. Her calendar is crowded, and she is not feeling “Merry and Bright.”
Can you relate?
I haven’t wrapped one single gift. I haven’t mailed any Christmas cards. I confess that I put down the nativity without dusting the coffee table (Picture Baby Jesus among the dust bunnies.)
Maybe like me you want to push the pause button on Christmas. I honestly wonder if being a busy bee is one of the reasons why many people back in the day missed out on the news that their promised Messiah had come. Perhaps even the citizens of Bethlehem needed to slow down and let go of their expectations.
I don’t want to miss Him.
Joy to the world. The Lord is come. Let every heart prepare Him room.
Lord, this Advent help me have the expectant heart of a pilgrim.
They asked around,
“Where can we find and pay homage to the newborn King of the Jews?
We observed a star in the eastern sky that signaled His birth.
We’re on pilgrimage to worship Him.”
Matthew 2:2

God Came Near

When you go through difficult times, you learn quickly who your real friends are. Some people press in when you are in pain. They step right over the mess in your living room and bring a casserole dish into your bare kitchen. True friends listen and pray and choose to remain present even if you try to push them away.
I need more friends like this.
I want to be this kind of friend.
This is a calling to be “God with skin on.”
You see, I don’t worship a distant God. My life is surrendered to a Heavenly Father who took on flesh and dwelt among the broken. He came to seek and to save the outcast. He pursues and woos and remains present.
God Himself is with us.
This Advent, may I remember that God came near, and I must do the same.
The God who made the world and everything in it…
He doesn’t play hide-and-seek with us.
He’s not remote; He’s near.
We live and move in Him,
can’t get away from Him!
Acts 17: 24, 27 (MSG)

Hello
Hello there!
Sometimes, I wonder who you are — the mysterious people who read my blog. Are you tall or short? Do you like coffee or tea? I wish we could sit down for a spell and just get to know one another. I would probably laugh too loudly and make a mess while I eat — because I am just not that fancy and put together.
Today, in order to foster a little “get together,” I am going to answer the fun questions that the girls over at Allume asked their friends last month. I would love for you to share a little of your answers in the comments.
Let’s be friends!
What was your favorite food as a kid?
McDonald’s Cheeseburgers
What chore do you despise the most?
Cleaning the toilet (It’s stinky!)
When was the last time you chatted with your neighbor?
We had lunch last Sunday. Love her!
What sound do you love?
The sound of my husband’s voice…. the ocean …. laughter of friends …. worship at church
If you could paint a picture of a place you have been what would it be?
As a teen, my parents took me to St. Croix, and we stayed in this bungalow right on the water that had a window seat and a rock terrace that stepped out to the sand.
If you could only do one thing for a whole year what would you want it to be?
Read, of course
If you could learn to do anything what would it be?
Play the guitar (but my rebellious fingers don’t want to learn)
If you could pick anyone as a mentor who would you pick?
Beth Moore
What do you do with 30 minutes of free time?
I check Facebook or chat on the phone with friends.
What would the dream birthday present be?
A getaway trip with my husband.
What do you want to be when you grow up?
I do not plan on growing up.
What is something new you learned last week?
I learned that prime rib is a great way to bribe my husband.
What do you miss most about being a kid?
Not having to balance a checkbook.
If gifted an all expenses paid vacation to anywhere where would you pick?
Israel, Europe, the Grand Canyon — do I have to pick one?
If everything in your life aligned exactly as in your dreams, what would your life look like? Where would you live, what would you do?
I would love to see all of my family come to know Christ. I’d live on the water, and I’d be happily retired.
If I was coming to your house for dinner, what would we have?
Probably a BBQ if our husbands were sitting in. If it’s a girl’s night, probably tacos.
What’s in your purse?
Everything. (I never leave home without my colored lip balm and my cell phone charger.)
What are your 5 favorite books?
Who came up with this question? Am I really supposed to narrow this down to 5? (My all time favorite is God Thinks You’re Wonderful by Max Lucado.)
Okay, now it’s your turn….

Healthy Eating is Not About Me
I am a bit of a chocolate addict. I try not to buy candy when the neighborhood kids are selling them for school because I lack self-control in this department. I can’t simply eat one chocolate truffle. I will eat the whole box within twenty-four hours.
I know my weakness. I realized I had a serious obsession a couple of years ago when a friend and I decided to treat ourselves to an evening out. After a delicious dinner, we decided to split a desert – except she wanted a chocolate shake, and I wanted a fudge pie. Rather than flip a coin, we decided to order both. Twenty minutes later, I had a serious stomach ache, and a heavily convicted heart. My friend felt equally horrible, and that day we made a pact to fast chocolate for a season.
Gluttony is a sin.
When I eat chocolate, I am usually not “keeping my body under” as Paul advised us to do in I Corinthians 9. As God’s disciple, I need to live like an athlete during training season. I’ve come to realize that sometimes I need to say “no” to my stomach in order to say “yes” to God. Healthy eating is part of living a crucified life that stays on mission.
I’m sharing “Healthy Eating is Not About Me” at Missional Women today. Join me here to read the rest of this post.
