Sweet Victory

I remembered today.
I was chatting with a friend when I recalled how God spoke to me.
God spoke to me while I was rocking away on the porch at Cracker Barrel.
Earlier that day, Bruce and I had decided to hit the road. We meandered around town and spent lots of time laughing with each other and being silly. At one point, he said something that reminded me of the lyrics of an old hymn, so I broke out into song.
Right there in the front seat of our Honda Pilot, I declared an impromptu silly hymn sing. I put on my best twang accent and belted out the first verse and chorus to a few hymns.
I sang loud and proud and held nothing back. The joy welled up inside and spilled out.
I ended my medley with a rousing version of “Victory in Jesus.”
A couple of hours and stops later, I spent a few sweet minutes rocking on the Cracker Barrel porch. Right there as I faced the sunshine and let the breezy afternoon caress me, God smiled on me.
Somewhere in the middle of Brad Paisley and Clint Black, God decided to have the Cracker Barrel loudspeaker play His tune.
My heart grew warm as the twangy lyrics washed over me.
I HEARD AN OLD, OLD STORY
HOW A SAVIOR CAME FROM GLORY
HOW HE GAVE HIS LIFE ON CALVARY
TO SAVE SOMEONE LIKE ME
God reminded me that He sees me. He is singing a victory song over my life.
Some days, I forget the victory is already won. I feel defeated and overwhelmed.
The last three days have kicked me in the gut in the worst way, but today I’m humming a new tune.
I will keep trusting. I will raise my voice and sing. I will laugh deeply. I will rejoice in my triumphant Savior.
Sweet victory is mine.

Kiss on My List
I am a fan of the kiss.
Yep, I must admit that I look forward to joining lips with my man as much as possible.
His kiss is on my list. (Cue 80’s song here.)
To kiss is to display respect, affection, love, and passion.
Imagine my surprise when a sweet friend gave me a Peanuts figurine that encouraged me to “Kiss another day hello!”
The adorable gift sits on my desk at work and reminds me that I must treat my day with respect, affection, love, and passion.
I am not promised tomorrow.
I need to be a fan of today. I need to look forward to each moment as much as possible.
Kiss your day hello, my friends. Make it sweet.

The Hard Hallelujah
I’m not even sure where I came across the phrase, but I keep turning it around in my mind.
Hard Hallelujah
Sometimes, we choose to lift up empty hands to our God and bless His name with our lips even though our heart is breaking.
The Lord gives. The Lord takes away. Blessed be the name of the Lord.
Over the last six years, I’ve offered up many Hard Hallelujahs.
Thank You, Lord, that the first person Baby Dunbar ever laid eyes on was You. Thank You, that our little one will never know sin and sadness.
Bless you, Father, for every day that you gave us with our sweet Miss B.J. Time spent with those we love is never wasted. Help us to choose sacrifice over selfishness.
Jehovah Rapha, I praise You for healing me on my sick bed and raising me up to new life. I am grateful for the gift that is Today. May I cherish each moment and use every second wisely.
Sovereign Creator, I recognize that You alone are God. I cannot control things by pushing and shoving and demanding my way. I cannot change hard hearts. Thank You for the privilege of prayer and praise which helps bring down walls and eradicate strongholds.
Adonai, I am overwhelmed with gratitude when I realize that You have walked closely beside me through the valley. Your beautiful difference has transformed my nothing into something significantly spectacular.
May my hard hallelujah be a fragrant offering.

24 Hour Hotline
Photo Credit: Anja Osbenberg, via Pixabay
I spent about two hours today trying to order a resource from a publishing company for one of the adjunct instructors I oversee at the college.
Two hours with little success.
My original contact informed me via e-mail that he had been re-assigned and was no longer my representative.
Apparently, I was lacking representation.
He suggested that I order my text through the website. I explained that I had already done that eight weeks ago, but I still had not received what I needed.
I asked if there was a direct customer service number where I could call and speak to a live body.
No. Not possible. Not going to happen. You are not important enough. You don’t matter enough.
Have you ever had an experience like this? You desperately need help. You need a personal touch, instead of an automated rejection.
I am so thankful that my God is fully accessible to me. I never get a busy signal. I am represented by my Advocate, the all-powerful Savior who conquered sin and death to set me free.
God will move mountains to ensure that my needs are met. As His royal daughter, I lack no good thing.
I am accepted. All things are possible. God is intimately attentive to His own.
Heaven has a 24 hour hotline.
Personal attention is just a prayer away.

5 Modern-Day Samaritans We Must Not Overlook Nor Ignore
There is a passage in the Bible that troubles me some nights when my head hits the pillow. I am laying there cozy in my bed with my fluffy pillow under warm blankets in my air conditioned house in a nice neighborhood, and I hear the Holy Spirit whisper this passage in my ear.
I hear it because I am too comfortable. I am not brave enough. I am judgmental and selfish.
I hear it because my Jesus never cared about comfort. He punched fear in the face. He loved with reckless abandon.
I hear the Holy Spirit whisper the words of my sacrificial Savior in my ear: “I was hungry, and you gave me food. I was thirsty, and you gave me drink. I was a stranger, and you welcomed me. I was naked, and you clothed me. I was sick, and you visited me. I was in prison, and you came to me…Truly, I say to you, as you did it to one of the least of these my brothers, you did it to Me” (Matthew 25:35-40).
If Jesus walked the streets of my city today, He would not end up sitting comfy on the couch watching cable. He would spend his time in back alleys, in coffee houses, in homeless shelters, and in prisons.
Jesus loved the overlooked and ignored. Jesus didn’t care about social mores or people’s opinions.
I’m over at Missional Women today taking about loving Modern-Day Samaritans.
