Inspired by child

Years ago in a creative writing class, I wrote a story of a sniper and had to give an overview to the entire class. The consensus in the class was that my short story could be a book. It was an amazing feeling and was the first time I ever thought about writing.

Years later, I came up with this crazy science fiction story, and told it to my wife and sister-in-law. They both thought I should write a series of books. This was the second time I thought about writing.

For years I wrote parts of books, as the story and the background became clearer to me. About a year ago, I finished my first Novel, JUST A BOY, and tried to find an agent to help publish it. Not having any luck finding an agent to pick up an unpublished author, I decided to self-publish five books as character background stories.

The first of these stories, SMALL VICTORIES, hasn't made me rich and famous, but it did make me a published author.

When a friend, Gail Whittaker, was asked if she knew a published author, my name came up, and I was asked to take part in an interview from a fifth grade boy who wanted to be an writer.

The idea of being interviewed was a bit nerve racking, since I'm just starting off. Trying to explain to anyone that I write my books for fun, and still have a regular 9 to 5 made me feel a bit uneasy.

When I asked about the student, I found that the boy was autistic, which made me even more nervous about the interview. The only experience I have had with autism is from being around my friends with autistic children. I worried that if I said the wrong thing, I might cause more damage then good and I know that children are very impressionable.

When the day for the interview came, I decided that I was just going to be honest, and tell the young man that I write because I enjoy it.

The interview went great.

I was told by the teacher that not only did the boy get a lot from the short time I was talking to him, but it was one of the only times, she had seen the boy focus so intensely for such a long period of time.

At first, I only wanted to give the interview to help make a positive impression of a student's love of writing, but now I feel that I have made a difference in the life of a boy whose life is going to be much more of a struggle then mine ever was.

The next time I'm struggling with a story line or having to do months of painful editing, I will remember the interview and know that I have already made a difference in one boy's life, just as much as he did mine.

I have something very special planned for my new friend. Like my page www.facebook.com/thedaverudden to find out more.

New review of Small Victories

I received a new review of Small Victories on Amazon.

"Sam's story of going from child to FBI agent takes a paranormal turn when she find a vampire attacking her and her mentor more connected to her new job than even she could dream. The book leaves you wanting more and looking for the next book."

It looks like I am off to a good start.

Download a Kindle version of small Victories for $0.99 and tell me what you think of it.

Interview

I am been asked to make myself available to be interviewed by a fifth grade student that has aspirations of becoming an author. Not sure "AWESOME!!!" really expresses how I feel about that.

Books

Hello readers.

I have now published my second book, Born Hunter.

Born Hunter follows the life of Drew Singer as he fights to keep humanity safe from vampires, werewolves, witches and other nasty things.

My first book, Small Victories, is about Sam Jackson, a girl that struggles all her life, only to find herself facing her worst nightmare.

These are both short stories and I have three more about the same size in work. All five of these short stories help set the stage for something big.
