Batty marxist lectures and five star reviews

So today has been rather odd. I attended a lecture on Marxist literary criticism which became more like a circus when a bat made a mid lecture cameo. Yes a bat, a small rodent like creature with leathery wings which instils fear in the hearts of all English students (apparently). No sooner had this fuzzy monster appeared, dazed and confused as it no doubt already was, the entire lecture hall erupted with screams of terror, and a few demonic cackles of delight from those who, like me, just happen to love bats and other strange things that go bump in the night.

As complete anarchy descended upon us, I took the opportunity to check the page for The Forsaken Ones on amazon, to find that some wonderful person has written a review of my book. Not only a review, but a review of five stars! Definitely a step up from my first review. Whoever has stated that giving away free copies gets an indie author nowhere? True, for a week I made no money on the 600+ downloads, but now I know that someone somewhere appreciated that free download. Unfortunately this does mean that I still have not reached my goal of £20.00 and my first donation to Mind Charity.

In other news I have been desperately torn between my studies, new novels waiting to be written, and an amazing story by a writer on figment.com named Rose Bown. The story in question is an unfinished novel entitled 'The Mortician's Boy' and seven chapters in, it has already found its way in to my list of favourite fantasy fiction. I will be writing a review of the story shortly, which shall be published on my website along with links to the page if you should wish to find out what I am ranting about.

In the mean time, I am hoping to find out more about what readers think of my first ever project:The Forsaken OnesFollow me on twitter @Pointer_AG for more regular updates.

Indie Authorship and the Student life.

I write because I love writing, and will continue to write, even if only for myself. The thing is, now that I've published my book, I find myself increasingly obsessed with numbers. Over three hundred downloads have been made of The Forsaken Ones since it appeared in the kindle store. And it was only a couple of days back I noticed some major flaws in my work, namely that my one woman editing skills were not up to scratch, and there were some serious typing issues.

Whilst my first thought was to find the nearest hole to climb into and thence live out my life as a hermit, I have decided to take another path. I have corrected the mistakes, and updated my book, so new potential customers will not encounter such errors.

It has been a difficult week, juggling one woman book promotion and full time education. I found myself informing my creative writing seminar group today of my recent publishing endeavor and refreshing my Reports page on my phone.

I shall try not to babble too much about The Forsaken Ones in my blog from here onwards, so I will just say one more thing I'm dying to tell the world about my little project, and then I will find something else to attempt to entertain you with. whilst my book is currently free to download until Sunday, I really want to reach a wider audience who are willing to pay for it, not purely for my own profit, but because I am hoping to donate some of the money I may make from this to a charity that is important to me. I e-mailed them this week, though they have not replied (I am a little frustrated about this) but since the work they do is important to me, I am going to continue to attempt to show my support. The charity in question is Mind, they are UK based and are trying to raise awareness of mental illness, to promote better understanding, and help those affected. This is something I feel needs more support, and so I shall be pledging to donate £5.00 for every £20.00 I receive in royalties from the kindle store. The problem is of course convincing people that The Forsaken Ones is worth the £1.91. So if you're in the UK, or not, if you think that Mind is a charity that needs some support then help me out here.

Has anyone here read The Forsaken Ones? If so I would love to hear your thoughts. I am currently pondering the request of a fan of mine that I make a follow up. I originally had no intentions of writing any such thing, but the suggestion has given me ideas, and I feel the temptation nudging me towards a shiny new notepad. It may have to wait a little while longer though, since I have another writing project up my sleeve. What now? You may ask? All I will say about it is: Witches.

Thats all from me today. The Forsaken Ones
