Review 4: The Departing Point

★★★☆☆

“…In short, it is a tiny book with simple stories narrating complex faces of love. It will not demand more than a couple of hours of your time. Try it!” For further reading visit: Satya’s Blog

The Departing Point The Departing Point

“…All the stories, as a whole, gives you a feeling of incompleteness in love and, rightly serves the tagline of the book,”two people departed, in search of love, leaving love in between”.

“The language is simple, the authors have kept in mind that the stories can be read and understood by the mass. The Departing Point is a short, simple, and nice read.”

Black, Grey and White book review by Jyothi Byahatti

BGW13

★★★★☆

‘Black Grey and White’ an excellent book that deals with social taboo associated with AIDS. AIDS has been around for a few decades now but still the misconceptions exist. In spite of several awareness programmes we have been unable to accept people with this syndrome as a part of our society. The authors have done a great a job in bringing out the misconceptions associated with it and also the problems faced by people tested positive. The book has five different stories:

The first story talks about the various misconceptions around AIDS, and there is a suspense element added which makes it an interesting read.
Chintu in the second story represents the HIV positive people and the problems they face in leading a normal life. A very simple story but brings out the issue very well.
The third story takes us to the glamour world, where exploitation is quite common and the story is about aspirations, exploitation and revenge.
Savita in the fourth story tells us how young girls like her become victims just because of the inadequate awareness and knowledge about HIV.
Finally the fifth story moves away from HIV and talks about the different personalities siblings possess and the problems in parenting.

The book is a quick read but has a lot of learning in it. I appreciate the style in which the issue has been presented. Rating 4 stars on five.

Personality Theory: Kohlberg’s Moral Development Theory

7K0A0597
(Stages of Development)

Kohlbergs breaks the development of morality into three levels –

Perconventional level (up to age nine)
In this level, morality is defined as obeying rules and avoid negative consequences. Typically these rules are set by parents, as defining moral law. The one who satisfies the child’s needs is seen as good and moral by parents and others.

Conventional level (age nine to adolescence)
In this level, parents expectation is being understood by children. Morality is seen as achieving these expectations. Following expectations and fulfilling those expectations are seen as moral law for children.

Postconventional level (adulthood)
In this level, one begins to understand that people in society have different opinions about morality and rules and laws vary from group to group and culture to culture. Morality signify in terms of upholding the values of the group or culture. The person would compare own beliefs to judge himself and others based upon higher of morality.
