Newsletter with an Excerpt from SIS!
Hello, hello! The last few months I’ve been frantically drafting book 2 of the Rookery Rogues, Secrets in Scarlet, and it’s going really well.
Today (or tomorrow, depending) I’m sending out a newsletter that will feature an EXCLUSIVE excerpt from SIS. Do you want to get to know Poppy and Thaddeus before the summer release? Sign up today! (And if you’re not already on the list and you read this after the fact and sign up, let me know, and I’ll personally forward you the newsletter).
Here’s the blurb for Secrets in Scarlet to get your interest up…
When a girl is murdered at a factory in one of London’s rookeries, Sergeant Thaddeus Knight of the Metropolitan Police comes in to investigate. But it’s not just the factory owners that Thaddeus wants information on–the devilishly intriguing Poppy O’Reilly is a puzzle he’d like nothing more than to solve.
Protecting her young daughter is the most important thing to Poppy, and Thaddeus threatens the false identity she’s carefully constructed. The last thing she should do is allow Thaddeus close to her family, yet she can’t stay away from him. With danger around the corner, will the secrets of a scarlet woman lead to their undoing?
What’s different about SIS than ADI? So far, it’s less dark. There’s one dead body, as there is in almost all of my books, but the sweetness of the hero and heroine balance that. Don’t worry, Monroe fans (okay, like, the 7 of you out there, but work with me here), it’s still got plenty of angsty goodness and a hero to love. Called my “19th century gamer” by one of my CPs and “sweet, perfectly beta, and different,” I’ve fallen deeply in love with him.
So what are you waiting for? Sign up now!

75% Sale!
I’m delighted to announce that A DANGEROUS INVITATION is 75% off at most e-retailers. This marks the e-copy down to $0.99! That’s cheaper than a cup of coffee in most places (and you know how much I love coffee).
If you’ve been waiting to catch the first book in the Rookery Rogues, now’s the time, as I won’t be running another sale until after the release of SECRETS IN SCARLET.
Want to pick up a copy now? Here’s where you can: Amazon | Barnes and Noble | Kobo | All Romance E-Books
Also exciting is the fact that A WAYWARD MAN, the 15,000 word prequel to A DANGEROUS INVITATION, is finally available at some retailers. (I’m biting my nails down to the quick waiting on Barnes and Noble and iBooks, sigh). You can get it for free at Smashwords, Kobo, and All Romance E-Books, and it’s available for 99 cents at Amazon. While you’re at Amazon, feel free to report the lower price because it’s my intent to try and offer A WAYWARD MAN for free everywhere. It’s my way of thanking you for being awesome readers and taking a chance on an unknown writer who likes to throw everything at the wall and see what sticks.

Secrets in Scarlet Cover Reveal
This cover went out already to be my newsletter subscribers, who will often receive new information on my books before anyone else. Want to be part of this exclusive club? You can sign up here.
I’m super excited to reveal the cover for SECRETS IN SCARLET, so excited that I can’t wait until the date I’d determined for my own cover reveal. This novella has been fun for me to write, as it features a heroine with a big secret and a bookish police officer. I’m dubbing it my “book of awkwardness,” as neither Poppy nor Thaddeus is particularly elegant. But I love their chemistry together and I hope you do too!
I’m aiming to have SECRETS IN SCARLET out in March, but as noted here, I’m terrible with estimating how long things will take.
Without further ado, here’s the cover, made by Book Beautiful from a stock photo of Studio Smexy.

Release Schedule for this Year
There’s something to be said for accountability. I’m one of those writers who works best if I’ve made a grand announcement. Apparently, the shame of knowing I’ve let a bunch of people down by not doing what I said I’d do is a grand motivator for me. (Well, we always knew I was really an 80-year-old woman in the body of a 27-year-old, so public shaming totally does it for me. MY REPUTATION! And other various cries.)
Thus, I wanted to talk to you a little bit about what I’ve got planned for the year. I’m not listing exact dates for these books because I’m really, really horrible at estimating when something will get done. I am a chronic overwriter, so when I project something, I need to take into account how long it’s going to take me to edit out the copious amount of “word vomit” I’ve done. Every book is different too in this process. So what I’m giving you today is instead what I’d like very much to release this year.
Release schedule of this year is looking like…
A WAYWARD MAN – Historical short story prequel, Daniel and Kate
SECRETS IN SCARLET – Historical novella, Poppy and Thaddeus
SCANDAL BECOMES YOU – Historical full-length, Justine and Alex
THE GOOD FIGHT – New Adult full-length, Vivi and Colton, 1st in new series
UNNAMED CHRISTMAS NOVELLA – Historical
The historicals noted in this list will all pertain to my current The Rookery Rogues series, of which I’ve already released the first book A Dangerous Invitation (check out more information on this book here).
Further explanation on these intended works: A Wayward Man has been finished and is with my critique partners. Then it will go through some edits and will be out to you shortly. Secrets in Scarlet is in drafting stages now. I’m estimating that it will be about 30,000 words, give or take. This is my current project.
After Secrets in Scarlet, I will either be starting The Good Fight or Scandal Becomes You, depending on what book is grabbing me more at the time. I love writing historicals, but they require an immense amount of research, so I’ll be writing whatever book first that I can really run with. Scandal Becomes You will be a very fun book regardless, as I’m already in love with my heroine and hero. You meet Justine for the first time in A Wayward Man, and she’s also mentioned in A Dangerous Invitation as the friend that betrayed Kate three years prior. Justine is a very, very different heroine from Poppy or Kate, and I’m excited to get to share her with you. Her hero, Alex Weston, used to steal with the Chapman Street Gang that I introduce in ADI, until he joined the Navy. When tragedy brings Alex back to London, he’s got to face his past if he’s going to help Justine save her sister from the clutches of Chapman.
What’s this about The Good Fight? That’s definitely not a historical, so why is it on my list? Gasp! Here’s the thing, y’all. I come from a very varied (how’s that for a tongue twister?) writing background. I studied 19th century Brit lit in college, which of course led to my love for the Regency and the Victorian periods. But I also got a Writing degree through composing a metric ton of sci-fi and contemporary stories. I love romance, and I’m definitely in the right place. But the great thing about romance is there’s so many different genres to deal with.
New Adult has really taken the world by storm these past two years. It involves college-age heroes and heroines who face often dark, emotional issues. There’s a ton of angst. Oh wait, doesn’t that sound a little bit like my historical series too (minus the college-age, that is)? I’ve wanted to experiment with different subgenres for awhile now, and an idea seized hold of my brain recently that I can’t get rid of.
Which brings me to introduce to you Battle Royale, a new adult series set in the small, highly religious fictional town of Battle, Georgia. When we meet Vivi, tragedy has brought her to live with her grandmother. She’s not pleased in the least, for Battle is far from shopping malls, fashion shows, and good parties. But when she meets town outcast Colton, suddenly she’s faced with a hell of a lot more to figure out than what she’s wearing. Colton’s life plan has gone up in flames, and his relationship with Vivi is the only thing keeping him afloat. But in small town Georgia, life is never exactly what it seems.

ADI on Wattpad
While I’m finishing up edits on A WAYWARD MAN, I wanted to let you know that you can now read the first three chapters of A DANGEROUS INVITATION on Wattpad. So if you’ve been dying to try out the Rookery Rogues but you have felt like you just need a little bit more information, here you go!
I know that new series are always hard to get into, so I wanted to give you readers a chance to really see what this first book in the Rookery Rogues is all about.

You can now purchase this book of 30 poems for your e-reader at the introductory price of $0.99. The official blurb:
In Breaking Up the Girl, Erica Monroe explores a woman’s place in today’s world. Poems are composed mostly in free verse and discuss love, feminism, mortality, fidelity, and self-identity.
And here’s something exciting…as of today, 1/21/2014, Breaking up the Girl is at the following ranks on Amazon:
#8 in Kindle Store > Kindle eBooks > Literature & Fiction > Poetry > Women
