Weekend Writing Warriors – Out of Options
Today on Weekend Writing Warriors #8Sunday, I’m sharing eight sentences from my untitled contemporary romance. While hibernating the winter in a beach house Josh is being paid to remodel, the former K9 handler is befriended by a service puppy in training and her owner. Last week he opened his door to find Tori with a bag of puppy chow and the pup, Sky, sitting at her feet. She’s just apologized for barging in on him.
Tori had lost her mind, but she was out of options. The sight of his glistening bare chest froze her mouth before she could explain her presence.
“It’s okay,” he said picking up Sky as he leaned on the door jamb with only a terry towel wrapped around his lean hips.
“I know you don’t know me, and we only met on the beach yesterday, but can I pay you to watch her today?” She sounded desperate and she was after over a year of trying to get her divorce finalized. “I have to be in court in Virginia and I may be gone all day, and my friend who was going to watch her got called into work and…”
“She’ll be fine.” He raised a brow over mischievous gray eyes and took the food with his free hand, setting it inside the door as Sky licked his cheek.

HBO, Playtone Fly With Wright Brothers Mini; Acquire David McCullough Book
Can’t wait to see OBX on the big screen!
Originally posted on Deadline:
EXCLUSIVE: HBO and Playtone partners Tom Hanks and Gary Goetzman have found the subject of their next major miniseries. HBO has acquired the rights to The Wright Brothers. The new David McCullough book tells the story of Wilbur and Orville Wright, who sold and repaired bicycles out of an Ohio shop to pay for their passion: the invention of flying machines that ushered in the aeronautical age right after the turn of the 20th Century. In 1903 on the Outer Banks of North Carolina, the brothers changed history by successfully flying the first heavier-than-air-powered machine that carried a pilot.
It puts two-time Pulitzer Prize winner McCullough back with HBO for the third time, and for the second with Playtone, which exec produced John Adams, the miniseries that starred Paul Giamatti and Laura Linney. HBO also turned McCullough’s Truman into a telepic that starred Gary Sinise as Harry Truman.

Weekend Writing Warriors – Nightmares and Fantasies
Today on Weekend Writing Warriors #8Sunday, I’m sharing eight sentences from my untitled contemporary romance. While hibernating the winter in a beach house Josh is being paid to remodel, the former K9 handler is befriended by a service puppy in training and her owner. This week we’re skipping ahead to where he’s in the shower the next morning after meeting dog and owner on the beach.
Josh stuck his head under the beating water attempting to ignore the incessant pounding at the front door. When it finally stopped, he cut off the water, snagged a towel off the rack and wrapped it around his waist. On his way to the bedroom, the knocking commenced again, this time at the second floor entry off the deck.
“Damn it,” he said cursing as he raced up the stairs and flung open the door. After a questioning blink at a women in a business suit with a bag of puppy chow in her arms, a shrill bark directed his attention to her feet. Sky, the Labrador he’d met on the beach yesterday.
“I’m sorry to bother you.” The woman shifted nervously in her high heels.

Romance Writers Weekly – “How much of yourself do you lend to your characters?”
This week on Romance Writers Weekly, Xio Axelrod wants to know: Readers always ask “How much of yourself do you lend to your characters?” Here’s your chance to answer. What traits do your characters have that come from you? And if not you, someone in your life.
Writing is an extension of me. So I’d have to say traits of my characters are either a part of me or something I’ve witnessed through real life, literature, TV or movie. I wonder to what extent all writers are affected by these mediums, and now add to that social media.
I write about everyday heroines, bartenders, firefighters, teachers, etc. I’m not fashionista and can’t walk in stilettos, so I’m not comfortable writing about a herione who is a devil or angel in Prada so to speak. The ladies I write, however, are a lot more daring than I’ve ever been in the flesh. I write them with to guts I wish I had. However, they have a sharp tongue and potty mouth and that is totally from me.
With heroes, I use traits I’m attracted to in men, but still most have a bit of bad boy in them. Even Ray from Hot as Blazes, who is a gentle giant, has a naughty side.
I don’t knowingly write about people from my life. Nor do I plan to get even with someone or kill them off. That’s giving someone too much free rent space in my head and I write for enjoyment.
Let’s step on over to A.S. Fenichel‘s blog and see how much of herself she writes into her characters.

Weekend Writing Warriors – Look back or not
Today on Weekend Writing Warriors #8Sunday, I’m sharing eight sentences from my untitled contemporary romance. While hibernating the winter in a beach house Josh is being paid to remodel, the former K9 handler is befriended by a service puppy in training. Last week, Josh was jogging along the beach when a black puppy rushes him. He immediately gets the dog to sit. We’re still in Tori’s point of view, the dog’s owner.
“You’ve trained dogs?” she asked as he pet Sky.
He ran his teeth along his bottom lip. “Used to, now I do renovations,” he said glancing back to one of the large oceanfront houses.
“Probably see you around then,” she said with a smile. “I work at the home improvement center on the bypass.” With a wave, she started for home with Sky trotting along, fur rippling in the wind.
Look back or not, Tori tossed her hair over her shoulder and gave a nonchalant peek.
Sharp gray eyes studied her then with a tilt of his head he turned and returned to his run.

Weekend Writing Warriors – A Ball of Energy
Today on Weekend Writing Warriors #8Sunday, I’m sharing eight sentences from my untitled contemporary romance. While hibernating the winter in a beach house Josh is being paid to remodel, the former K9 handler is befriended by a service puppy in training. Last week, Josh was jogging along the beach when a black puppy rushes him. This snippet is from Tori’s point of view, the dog’s owner.
He knelt down as the pup sprayed sand in all directions with a hearty shake. “Aren’t you a ball of energy?”
Up until now, Sky had been somewhat timid around strangers and Tori worried she’d made a poor choice in picking a service dog. “You’re the first person she’s approached since I began her training.”
Passing her a questioning glance, he gave Sky a hand command and said, “Sit.” The puppy sank her rump on the sand. “Good girl,” the handsome stranger said, his face softening. Evidently his stern nature didn’t apply to K9s.

Weekend Writing Warriors – Puppy Love
Today’s Weekend Writing Warriors #8Sunday post is entitled Puppy Love. I’m sharing eight sentences from my untitled contemporary romance. While hibernating the winter in a beach house Josh is being paid to remodel, the former K9 handler is befriended by a service puppy in training. Today’s snippet is from the puppy owner’s point of view.
Broad shoulders molded a black hoodie to perfection as the only other person on the beach jogged toward Tori and Sky. A black beanie with Hurley logo rode low at his brows. The slight limp in his gait seemed out of character for his athletic build. His piercing steel, gray eyes squinted as his gaze fell upon her dog.
Sky’s interest on the wind blown seaweed shifted to the approaching stranger and greeted him with a fearless bark before breaking into a run.
“Heel,” she commanded. At the end of the lead, Sky tumbled head first forming a black fur ball causing Tori to laugh.
The man stopped, his lips curling against a day’s growth of beard revealing a bright grin.

Tasty Book Tour: Nobody’s Angel by Sarah Hegger

Today I’m interviewing Sarah Heggar’s hero of Nobody’s Angel for Tasty Book Tours.
Meet Richard Hunter, a local doctor in the town of Willow Park. His first met his love interest, Lucy Flint, nine years ago when she was chatting to his, then, girlfriend. They fell madly in love, she’s broken his heart and left town. Now, she’s back and Richard is struggling.
What’s the one thing you’d never tell your lover?
There’s nothing I wouldn’t tell Lucy. There’s been far too much hurt between us as it is. One thing I don’t think she really gets, I mean she gets it, but doesn’t get it, is how deeply the first time I saw her is imprinted on me. It’s like the whole world stopped in that moment, and there was only her.
I never got over her. Never forgot a single thing about her.
What’s one thing your lover or potential lover can do to totally turn you on?
The way she moves like she’s got ZZ Top “Legs” as her personal soundtrack.
Do you rely on your physical prowess or your intelligence to attract a lover? I like being fit, but as a doctor, I value brains over brawn every time.
What’s something you’ve done that could have landed you in prison? Lucy nearly got me tossed in prison a couple of times. Bar fights, that sort of thing. She was wild when she was younger and always dragging me into that shit with her.
Who’s your best buddy? What do you guys do when bromancing? Probably my brother, Josh. He’s an arrogant son of a bitch with his fancy clothes and his slick car, but he’s always got my back. He’s easy to hang out with. Thinks he can beat me at the Iron Man.
Is there a specific body type, hair, or eye color that attracts you? Once I met Lucy, that’s kind of it for me. She had this short, kick ass hair when I met her. It’s long now and sometimes it hides those killer green eyes from me. Blonde, tall and stacked with attitude. And man, those legs. They go on forever.
What do you believe is your most attractive feature? Seriously? Never gave it too much thought. Girls like a doctor, right? My brother Josh, he’s the family pretty boy. You might want to ask him this one. He’s probably got a list.
How do you stay fit? I’m in training for an Iron Man triathlon. That’s a 2.4-mile swim, a 112-mile bicycle ride and a marathon 26.2-mile, raced in that order and without a break. I’m beginning to wonder what the hell I was thinking.
Name your most comfy article of clothing? My old sweat pants. Nothing better after a workout and a hot shower. I’m not a snappy dresser, as long as it fits and it’s clean. Again, Josh is your best man for this.
A favorite piece of clothing to remove from your lover? Just about anything that hides that kick ass body from me.
If you could change one thing in your life, what would it be? I wouldn’t get married. It thought I loved Ashley, but it was always Lucy for me. And I wish my dad had lived a few years more. He adored Lucy, he would be so proud of the woman she’s become and so happy she’s back.
Thanks Richard! Really enjoyed meeting you. I’ve read yours and Lucy’s story. I love coming home stories and this one is a great read.
Here’s where you can find Sarah Hegger and her books. Sarah recently received the ____ award for her historical, The Bride Gift.

Born British and raised in South Africa, Sarah Hegger suffers from an incurable case of wanderlust. Her match? A hot Canadian engineer, whose marriage proposal she accepted six short weeks after they first met. Together they’ve made homes in seven different cities across three different continents (and back again once or twice). If only it made her multilingual, but the best she can manage is idiosyncratic English, fluent Afrikaans, conversant Russian, pigeon Portuguese, even worse Zulu and enough French to get herself into trouble.
Mimicking her globe-trotting adventures, Sarah’s career path began as a gainfully employed actress, drifted into public relations, settled a moment in advertising, and eventually took root in the fertile soil of her first love, writing. She also moonlights as a wife and mother. She currently lives in Draper, Utah, with her teenage daughters, two Golden Retrievers and aforementioned husband. Part footloose buccaneer, part quixotic observer of life, Sarah’s restless heart is most content when reading or writing books.
She loves to hear from readers and you can find her at any of the places below.
