Introducing the cast of Chaos Rises

Chaos Rises releases in just 41 days. The long awaited Veil series spin-off features an all-new cast of characters, some good, some bad, and some...somewhere in between.

To celebrate, I've had some very special character art-cards designed. These were so much fun to work on. From my basic brief, the artist produced four initial sketches (You can see the sketches on my website here). These first hand-drawn sketches simply blew me away. I then waited, on tenterhooks, for the final images to arrive, wondering what they would be like. Would the final images capture Gem's icy menace, or Allard's intimidating demeanour?

Well, as you can see, they're awesome!

Meet Allard—the demon dealer; Gem (Gamma) and her brother, Del (Delta); and the enigma of Torrent.

I absolutely adore them, and hope you do too.

You'll be able to get your hands on these limited edition art-cards very soon. I'll be running a competition to win these, as well as a signed paperback copy of Chaos Rises, and one of three special 'winged-key' pendant necklaces. Sign up to my mailing list here (you also get free ebooks) to make sure you don't miss your chance to win.

And don't forget, you can pre-order Chaos Rises from Apple and Amazon today. (Other vendors coming in June).

Happy reading!

Chaos Rises (Draft Excerpt)

Allard held out a strange little trinket. He turned his hand over and it dangled from his finger and thumb. A circle of metal, a chain, and a picture encased in plastic. I reached out without thinking and snatched it, before he could change his mind. “What is it?”

“Humans call it a keyring,” he said, voice grainy but otherwise flat and indifferent. “It was found half buried in the grounds.”

I brushed my thumb over the picture of the glowing Santa Monica Ferris wheel. Why do keys need rings? I wondered. The picture glittered as it caught the sunlight. It was…beautiful. I wanted to thank him, but wouldn’t. When I looked up, his eyes had softened, as they often did when he presented me with bits of debris from before the Fall. Keyrings, hotel brochures. Postcards were my favorite.

I blinked. His small smile seemed real, although it barely touched his lips. It would be so easy to believe the man standing in front of me might care what I thought of his gift. But it was fake. Demons don’t do gifts.

“Add it to your collection of human detritus.” At his words, a rumbling rolled through the walls and floor; his element flexing. He wasn’t as calm as he appeared, but it wasn’t anger ruffling his power. Something else, something I couldn’t read on his expertly crafted human mask. Frustration perhaps, or anticipation. Whatever it was, I wet my lips and bowed my head, as was proper.
Because I was little more than a lesser, a half-blood. And just like Torrent had said, I was owned.

Back in the Veil world

For the last few months I’ve been working on several projects back-to-back, most notably City of Fae #2 and the Girl From Above series. But finding myself with two spare weeks between edits, I couldn’t avoid the siren call of the Veil world any longer, and started working the hotly anticipated Chaos Rises. Man, oh man, it feels so good to be back in this world. I have a whole new cast of characters, and this time we’re in the demon-torn streets of LA; the demons, the terminology, the thrills...

Shatter Me

'I am motionless, captured as surely in indecision as I am in ice. I could—should kill her. Here, now, she is weakened, restrained. She thinks me incapable. In that, she is wrong. I am glacial. And yet, despite it all, her death would shatter me.' ~ Stefan, The Veil Series Image source:https://www.pinterest.com/pippadacost...
