Everyday People
This is one of my favourite posts! It’s all about why I love to read and write queer contemporary romance.
While building a better website (you can check it out here), I compiled a list of posts hosted elsewhere for one of the features. This post was originally written for Queer Romance Month back in 2015, and the host website is no longer active. So I’m reposting it here, on my own blog.
Reading it over this over this morning, I felt no urge to change a single word. This post is as true tod...

What I’ve Been Reading
The shiny New Year has been sullied by grimy piles of snow and hair-clogged filters as the heating in my home struggles to keep up with the cold. I’m tired of being tired and I miss the sun. The real sun—not that cheating bastard that tricks me into going out for a walk on really cold days. I’d make plans to move to Arizona, but they have snow too. Why, oh why, is winter a thing?
Thankfully, I’ve had some really good books to read.

The Men We Love
You’d be forgiven for thinking this post might be about our husbands, our brothers, or our sons, but my fellow Lady Writers and I want to share a little something about the other men in our lives: the characters we write. Each of us picked a favorite, and it was no easy task. We’ve all written multiple novels and have been a part of many characters’ lives. But there are always standouts, those characters you come to love above all others. Here are ours.

The Movies I Wasn’t Supposed to Talk About
I’ll be honest: none of the movies I’m about to talk about are movies I shouldn’t really talk about—except for the fact I did this thing on Facebook where you were supposed to post an image a day, for ten days, that represented a movie that had impacted you… and not give an explanation.
Picking only ten movies was really, really hard. I love movies and usually watch a couple every week. I love going to the theatre. There’s just something about the smell of popcorn and a big screen. I also lov...

Impractical Magic
I’ve wanted to own a Ford Mustang for about as long as I can remember. Last year I finally bought one… and it’s the most impractical car I’ve ever owned. But I love it all the more for that fact.
I saved for several years in order to purchase my dream car and planned to buy it on or around my 50th birthday. My dad would be visiting then and I figured shopping for a car together would be something fun to do. We’re both pretty interested in cars: we both used to race (in amateur leagues), can t...

2019
It’s time to make plans and set a few goals! But first, I’d like to take a look back at 2018. It was a huge year for me, career-wise—beginning with a lot of uncertainty and ending with five book releases. Let’s take a look at those first.
2018 Releases
Readers had to wait until August for my first release of the year, but the reception for my weird and tropey science fiction western romance was overwhelmingly positive—which made me happy for all the usual reasons: yay...

My Favourite Things: 2018
It’s time for my favourite post of the year, and thank goodness for that. Did anyone else think 2018 was a long year? Time’s supposed to speed up when you get older, isn’t it?
I needed all the time I could get, though, to write the last book of the This Time Forever series, a final novella for Marc and Henry, edit everything I’d written last year, this year, and what felt like an entire library full of books, and then promote it all. I also taught three writing workshops and continued my volu...

New Release: Chasing Forever
It’s difficult for an author to read reviews. You want everyone to love your books as much as you do, but know, realistically, that they won’t. We all have tropes we love and plot lines we don’t really care for. Sometimes we just don’t connect, other times we find a book that really clicks at first, but fails to deliver. We’re looking for books as individual as we are. Books that work for us. And every now and then we find one we love without reason, and it stays with us for a long, long time...

Counting Out
Counting Out is the last story in the Counting series! I first made it available to newsletter subscribers, now I’m making it available to everyone else.
A little bit about the story: it was meant to be 5000 words. Then 10000. I think it ended up somewhere over 20k, which makes it significantly longer than Counting Fence Posts, the first novella in this series. But that’s just fine because I love writing extras for my guys and I loved writing this story in particular.
(To read all the extras,...

Colour My World
You know how some people want to know your star sign? And as soon as you admit you’re a Taurus, they offer a sage nod before telling you stuff you didn’t really need to hear. Or have heard before. A hundred times. We Tauruses are not stubborn, by the way. We’re determined. Huge difference. For stubbornness, look to your neighbourhood Aries.
I don’t make a habit of asking people their star sign. Instead, I want to know your favourite colour. I know the favourite colours of all my friends. I do...
