St Hild: The Martha of the Anglo-Saxon England
This past weekend is the feast day of St. Hild of Whitby. According to Bede, she died on 17 November 680 and her feast is celebrated in the Episcopal Church on November 18th and in the Church of England on November 19th.
Hild's return to Northumbria from East Anglia in 646 was one of the most important events in the development of the early Northumbrian church.

The Viking Man - a dreamboat?
Recently, I have come to suspect that many people up here in the cold grey north are overdosing on "Vikings". For those of you that don't know, this is a TV series (deliciously full of historical errors) starring Travis Fimmel as Ragnar Lodbroke (Ragnar Hairy-Breeches - wonderful name). Now, it is as obvious as the day is bright why the female population can't get enough of Travis (a younger, edgier version of Brad Pitt.

Dear Writer, Have You Ever Been on the Point of Giving Up?
Today, I'm very excited to welcome on this blog Sarah Butler, an acclaimed author, and also one of the kindest, most perceptive creative writing teachers ever, who helped me with my first ever published story.

In the numbers
Reblogged from Brewer's Cauldron:
I have always been interested in all things mystical. Tarot, numerology, astrology, palmistry... In the hands of a skilled reader and insightful interpreter, they can each offer a fascinating way to look at yourself. I have had several such readings from several different sources. I initially approached the exercise as a skeptic, but I was surprised at how accurate and helpful my readings have been.
Emily Hill – Author
My guest today is friend and Author Emily Hill. Emily recently took a trip to Bavaria that I found very interesting. I asked her to share what she learned on this amazing trip. I think you will find this as fascinating as I did. Please feel free to comment and let us know what you think.
Murderous Kings? Malevolent Kings? Mad Kings?
How many European kings did their courts and counsels consider murderous, malevolent – even mad? Quite a few, if history teaches us anything. And nothing is better...
Anthropologist Held Hostage By Elves For 7 Years
Reblogged from Best and Worst of Horror:
By C. Michael Forsyth
REYKJAVIK, Iceland -- Seven years after she vanished without a trace, a female anthropologist emerged from a mysterious cave where authorities believe she may have been held hostage by real-life elves!
Danish researcher Kalena Søndergaard was stark naked, covered by dust and babbling incoherently when rescuers found her outside a tiny opening in the famous Elf Rock, traditionally believed to house the underground dwelling place of...

ELITE WARRIORS OF HISTORY: THE JOMSVIKINGS
Reblogged from The Deadliest Blogger: Military History Page:
Founded in the late 10th century, the Jomsvikings were a Scandinavian warrior-brotherhood, based at Jomsborg, a fortress on the southern Baltic shore (likely near modern Wollin, in German Pomerania). Their origins are shaded in fable and obscured by conflicting sources.
One source states that this Brotherhood was established and patronized by the Danish king, Harald Bluetooth. That he granted their leadership to…
Vampire Syndrome Sells Out?
Reblogged from Vampire Syndrome Blog:
Well, folks, I've made the big commitment.
The entire Vampire Syndrome saga (the three main books, short stories, etc.) is now contracted to PDMI Publishing LLC.
Next year is the time for PDMI and "Vampire Syndrome" to Rock And Roll.
The risks are big, but so are the rewards.
I couldn't be happier to be signed with a publisher on the right path of expansion, ready to reap the rewards of the Big Five's ever-increasing weaknesses regarding new/midlist authors,...
