The Twelve Days of Christmas

When I was young we, my brothers and sisters, bought my mom a set of Christmas dishes. Every year we would added to it. We needed to as the family grew.
It was always special, unpacking those dishes and it stuck with me. So when I started my own family, mom and dad bought me my own a set.
Now the dishes come out every year in my house and for the entire month of December we eat off them.

The Twelve Days of Christamas
An excerpt from my last releast Victoria's Challenge:
Standing with her arms crossed, she looks at Lucas. God, he’d been lucky today. It could have been so much worse. He won’t think so but it could have. Taking a hand scanner, she moves it over his bandaged arms, getting her first look at the hidden injuries. Definitely seconds on his arms and hands. Not deep, but it’s his fingers that have her worried. It doesn’t take much to go deep there.
“What are you doing?” Her scent has him opening his eyes.
“Looking at your injuries.”
“How’s Hot Dog?”
“Packing him as we speak, he has a really good chance of getting back in the seat.”
“Fuck!” Lucas goes to run a hand through his hair and grimaces.
“He’ll be okay, Major. Selfridge will see to it.”
“Who’s Selfridge?”
“The best burn doctor on Carina," she informs him. "He’s going directly to her. Now let’s talk about you.”
“I’m fine.”
“No you’re not, but you will be. The question is: where do you want to recover at?”
“Not here.”
“Fine, then here’s the deal. We’ll get you back to quarters. You’ll be monitored for your concussion, because of that, your pain meds will have to be reduced. You’re going to be uncomfortable and I’m sure, bitchy.”
“I don’t get bitchy.” He says in a bitchy tone that has Victoria raising an eyebrow.
“Right and I’m six foot. Anyway, we’ll get a chair, get you to quarters and get you into bed. Then we’ll see about third meal, something light. Any questions?”
“No. Let me tell you how it’s going to work. Someone is going to get me my clothes.” he yells. "I’m going to walk to my flight deck, and when I’m ready, I will go to my quarters and go to bed!” By the time he’s finished, the entire medical facility is cringing. All but Victoria.
“Oh really? Here.” She picks up his ruined clothes, tossing them at him. “Put them on.” Waiting, she sees him just look them. “Come on. Let’s see you pick them up.” Victoria’s eyes are hard and flashing at him.
“What? Can’t do it?” She whips the covers off the cot, revealing his barely covered front.
“Stop that! What’s wrong with you?” He grabs for the sheet, wincing at the pain it causes.
“Me! Me! What’s wrong with you! You have second-degree burns, are too pig headed to admit you’re in pain, and it has nothing to do with the bump on your head. Your body needs time to recover, Major, and you’re going to give it that time. That means for the next few days you’re going to shut up and take orders, or I’ll bounce your head off the deck so you have a real concussion. Understand?” No one speaks. “Good. Now I’m going to find you some pants because no matter how fine of an ass you have, no one really wants to see it hanging out of a gown.”
Lucas is left watching her leave, his mouth hanging open. What was that? Where the fuck had that come from? She eighteen for God’s sake. When had she gotten that tough? His mind nudges him to remember another time, when she stood in front of the Full Assembly, a nine cycle, demanding her right to be heard, stating her case for imprisonment for Audric instead of death, hoping for him to live a long, long life. She’d stood strong, for herself, her family and for her beliefs.

The Twelve Days of Christmas

Five Pound Fudge
(yes, it probably weighs that much) 4 1/2 Cups Sugar
dash of salt
13 ounces evaporated milk
1/8 pound margarine
16 large marshmallows
12 ounces milk chocolate chips
1 pound hershey chocolate bars
1 teaspoon vanilla
2 Cups chopped nuts ~~~~~ Cook first four ingrediants on medium heat.
Bring to a boil and cook 5 minutes. Stirring constantly so not to stick.
Remove from heat and add remaining ingrediants except nuts.
Stir until smooth.
Add nuts.
Pour into a cook sheet or 9x13 pan.(okay this is the only thing I don't follow, I like thick fudge so I use a 8x8 or 9x9)
That's it! ~~~~~ Disclaimer!!!! I am not responsible for any weight gain that may occur after eating this product!!!! Happy Holidays!!! Click on the links below to continue your hop

The Twelve Days of Christmas
This is the start of a twelve-day blog that four fellow writers and I are doing. It is a blog hop. We are each going to post something for the next twelve days that could be about our lives, traditions, music, recipes or excerpts from new or upcoming books. I hope you enjoy it.
~~~~~
I'm not sure what everyone else's idea is of Christmas music, there is such a broad range to choose from but in my home, Christmas doesn't start until we put in Kenny Roger's Album, The Gift.
I'm not sure when I first purchased this album, it was released in 1996, but my kids know every song by heart and actually sing when it comes on!
Every year I've had to purchase a new one because it 'disappeared', we wore it out or it got scratched going from home to car.
I totally panicked one year when I couldn't find it in stores. I have since downloaded it to my Ipod and am never with out.
Update
Where has the time gone? So much has happened since I last posted that I don't know where to start.
Victoria is nearing completion and I am planning on releasing her in late November.
Wray and Rebecca are still working through thier problems so it's looking more like January, sorry.
In November I was the featured author in S.E. Smith's newsletter and it ROCKED!
Thanks Susan!
I want to thank everyone that has emailed me or commented here, I've tried to respond to all of you and hope you'll forgive me if I missed you.
First Wewriwa Post
Victoria looks back at her plate, he’d made her snowman pancakes that morning, the morning the Earth was destroyed.
“Why?”
“You need to remember, time’s running out.” Standing Jacob walks to the back door of the cabin and Victoria suddenly realizes that’s where she is, in the kitchen of the cabin. Standing she goes after her grandfather but when she reaches the door all she sees is devastation.
“Grandpa! Grandpa! Where are you?”
What a week
First of all I want to thank everyone for posting to my site and your encouragement. A special thanks to Judy Hornbuckle for her continued support with all my questions. To Amanda, yes I've signed up on Goodreads and to Fran in the UK for your support.
It's been an amazing week, full of ups and downs, the good and the bad but that's what makes life, well life right?
October has to South Dakota and currently I'm sitting at home under a tornado watch...what the...and the other side of the State has three feet of snow. You know what they say, at least in South Dakota, "If you don't like the weather wait a few minutes, it'll change." And it will.
Wray and Kim are struggling with much more then the weather but they will work it out, it just takes time.
Victoria is at the Editor!!!! Yes!!! I'm so excited!!! I'll let you know if I still am when I get the changes. Sorry Laura.
Have a great weekend!
Welcome
Hello! Thank you for visiting my new site. For all of you that helped me not only build it, but tell me I needed one and give me the courage to do so...Yes Judy I'm talking about you!!!!
Judy is one of the many of you that emailed me after Grim was published telling how much she liked the book, edit problems and all and that she thought I had talent.
I'll be honest with all of you, I thought I'd gone through the proper channels for the editing. I'd tried to find an editor but with no luck, new author and all.
I tried to find help on a few boards, no offers.
No, I knew no other authors, no beta readers(never heard of them) so I took the leap and hit 'publish' on smashwords. And told no one. That was Cassandra....
Then Grim came along. Same process. Same results but low and behold, I started getting sales and reviews and emails, what the...
From nearly the beginning there were comments on the grammar and editing, some very nasty, including emails.
I looked for help on a few boards that shall remain nameless seeking help and to be honest am surprised I didn't slit my wrists at the harsh comments, yes some were that bad.
But then people like Judy emailed me, encouraging me, telling me about an editor she'd just found and liked, about how I really needed a domain and webpage and...it goes on and that was her FIRST email!
And more came in from so many of you! And I realized that just like in life there are those that would rather tear you down then help you up. So I ignored them and continued to write.
Yes, I will probable always need a proof reader and editor (maybe even in my blogs, which I'm just learning how to do) because my fingers don't always type what I think they do. So I'll apologize right now.
Now on to updates:
Victoria's Challenge is at the editor! Yes a real one! Thank you again Judy!
I am hoping for a November release but since this is my first 'official' edit please be patient.
Wray is in process. Can I throw in a teaser...the cover, by Judy Bullard at customebookcovers@cox.net, is AWESOME. Yes she did Grim and Wray is his brother...
That's all I'm going to give right now until the story is closer to completion.
Best wishes to all of you and keep reading, no matter who it is because we all have stories to tell
