BOOK COVER REVEAL...CHALLENGING DESTINY by Cherie Colyer
SOOOOO excited to be able to show off my critique partner and long-time friend, Cherie Colyer's book cover for her brand-new book coming this spring!
CHALLENGING DESTINY Wild Rose Press, Black Rose Imprint
Being Chosen is a terrible thing when there's no one you can trust...

READ MORE ABOUT IT:
Synposis:Logan Ragsdale and his younger sister, Ariana, have been marked, chosen to be unwilling participants in a war between angels and demons. Logan can sense something's not quite right. Like an unexpected chill on a summer's day, he can feel the unseen closing in. He's had these feelings before and, each time, someone close to him died. He's afraid this time it might just be Ariana. Logan's fears are soon confirmed when he discovers their new friends aren't human, but rather representatives from Heaven and Hell sent to Earth to ensure he and Ariana accept their roles in an ancient prophecy.
Demons want Logan to open the gates of Hell. Ariana has the power to stop them, but if she chooses to side with Heaven to spare the lives of thousands of innocent people, she'll damn her brother for eternity. Together, they must derail the biblical event if they hope to save themselves and the future of mankind...but what price are they willing to pay to keep the other safe?
OOH - it's HEAVENLY!

In honor of Valentine's Day, 24 authors are participating in a giant LOVE FEST - giving away books and other cool stuff related to their books.
Who doesn't LOVE freebies from authors?
Since this is my first giveaway hop, you can be among the very first perps (wink) to win some of my WANTED: DEAD OR IN LOVE memorabilia or even a copy of the book! You'll have to wait until it comes out, however.
Here's my book cover and a little blurb about it:

Later that evening, Monroe shows the slugs to Jack, a boy she meets at a party. He unknowingly becomes infected by Clyde, who soon commits a crime using Jack's body. The teens learn that they have less than twenty-four hours to ditch the criminals or they'll share their bodies with the deadly outlaws indefinitely.

Paying It Forward: Send me your First Five Pages and I'll Critique Them.
No matter if you're committed to traveling down the traditionally-published highway like I did, or publishing your novel on your own thoroughfare, the first five pages of your novel could make or break your reader's heart.
Knowing how much (or little) to tell, introducing the characters, and propelling the reader into your story all take finesse. Tell too much and the reader isn't intrigued enough to continue. Tell too little and the reader is bored.
In those first five pages, you need to:
clearly introduce your protagonist: age, name, gender, hint of goalsetting and time frame of your novelgive us something intriguing to sample (but neither a meal nor only a morsel)set the tone of the novel
Finding the right balance between showing vs. telling, as well as tantalizing the reader so much that they NEED to read more, is a tough task. I'm not technically an expert, but I have been writing ten years, as well as teaching for twenty, and have been an avid reader my entire life. I know after the first five pages whether I'm hooked or bored and would love to give my honest feedback on your novel's intro. I'm PAYING IT FORWARD to thank all those who helped me on my journey.
No need to face the rejection chair!

Send your pages to kymbrunner@comcast.net. Limited to the first 20 writers. No strings attached! (But would love you to "LIKE" my author page so we can continue our online friendship. Thanks!) KYM

Can YOU read faster than me?
To show you how competitive I am, I took the reading challenge below. I scored a 398 with 100% accuracy, or 59% faster than most readers. Eh, not that impressive. I'm going with the test anxiety excuse. :) Nonetheless, it was fun. CHECK YOUR SCORE AGAINST MINE and post in the comments. I dare you. (You see how peer pressure works?) :)

My new baby, WANTED: DEAD OR LOVE book trailer!
I'm a HUGE movie fan, so watching previews before the movie I came to see is something I love to do. So it's no surprise that I, along with my daughter, Karly, just HAD to make a book trailer for my book. It was fun to make, but man, what a time-sucker. Nine hours (not counting the time it took to find copyright free images) for a one-minute video. But I LOVE how it turned out! I wanted it to be creepy and compelling. See if you think I've met my objective:
Let me know if there's something you think should be changed. It's an easy fix ~ thanks! KYM
