Spotlight Indie Romance: Star Cruising

It is cold in the northern hemisphere and--as winter drags on--many flee to warmer climates, often via a cruise ship. In the far future of Veronica Scott's The Sectors, those with means can take a luxury cruise between star systems.

The most recent addition to the Star Cruise series, STAR CRUISE GHOST SHIP released, in my opinion, is the best so far. Be warned, it is a thriller, not a vacation rom-com.

I have enjoyed all the Star Cruise stories, and some cross over into other series in the larger Sectors universe. Several started as contributions to Pets in Space anthologies with main characters of the four-footed kind.

Characters reappear from book to book, but all the books are stand-alone, so check out the entire list and see what appeals.

After losing his Space Navy career due to an unfortunate accident, Theo Knox is looking for any opportunity to distinguish himself as an officer aboard the luxury cruise liner Nebula Zephyr. When they come upon a derelict freighter, he’s happy to lead a small crew to salvage the ship and bring her to port.

Indie Romance Spotlight: Military Suspense

Most military suspense focuses on active military personnel. In K.M. Fawcett's spin on the trope, our hero is retired military, disabled in the line of duty. So few romances deal with main characters with disabilities, let alone the hero, but Dean definitely hits all the hero buttons. Lacey is great as the determined heroine, with her own 'less than perfect' baggage. And then there's Remi, the retired military dog, and match-maker.

Throw in Lacey's hateful ex, and a generations old family mystery for a fun, suspenseful read.

Indie Spotlight: SFR Aliens times 2

Somehow, January got away from me and I did not produce a second Indie Spotlight. To make up the lack, this post spotlights two very different science-fiction romances featuring alien heroes.

So I forgot to update my phone. Big deal. Who actually does that? Only, there’s a glitch and my 69G phone opened a portal to another planet! Because that makes sense. #TechFail. Also, rude.

Now I’m stuck on an alien planet with Grumpy McGrumperson. He’s got these tattoos that move over his skin and he can shift into a giant raven. I mean, sure, he’s hot and he saved me from being eaten by a pack of monsters, but I don’t trust anything about this place, let alone a grumpy alien, and I’m going to find a way home.

Sneak Peek FLETCHER: Thornscore, Volume 2 #SFR

Minor illness slowed progress a bit, but I've still managed to reach 5K words and still on track for a June 2024 release.  Here's a peek at the beginning of FLETCHER: Thornscore, Volume 2.

Fletcher flexed and fisted his left hand, watching the fingers coil. They looked like his fingers, and felt like his, but beneath the perfect flesh were bones of the most advanced alloy in The Thirteen Systems. The sinews were crafted from the same almost indestructible fabric that went into the flight suit that saved his life. Infused with the super-strong alloy developed for the Nightingale’s hull, the fabric deflected the worst of the blast that shot him out of the sky during the battle for The Thirteenth System. In body armor, the Bright Star alloy was all but impregnable.

For the flight suit, that degree of armor had been deemed unnecessary. It would also have limited pilot maneuverability and added unnecessary weight. With a different decision, he might have retained his left arm and leg. He does not recall the blast that glanced off him and his escape glider after jettisoned his flyer over Bright Star Deuce. His last memory of the battle was blasting a despoiler flyer attempting to destroy Monsignor Lucius’ escape pod. After that, his first clear memory was waking up on Fortuna and learning he would lose his limbs. In between, there were a few scattered flashes of Monsignor Lucius concerned face laced with soul-searing pain.
