WELCOME TO 2015

Welcome back to my little corner of the universe. I am pleased to see you again.

So, last year wasn’t a very good one. However, I have faith that this year will be a banner year. So my hope is that you have a 2015 at least five times better than your 2014 was.

On tap this year, I am starting off with four flash fiction pieces, a guest post from Sci-Fi author extraordinaire Nicholas Sansbury Smith, and of course, will pepper my blog throughout the year with guest posts from other amazingly talented up-and-coming authors.

THE ENEMY OF MY ENEMY IS ANUBIS

In the Stargate Universe, there are always bad guys. Some, however, are much worse than others.

So far, I’ve given you an overview of the Goa’uld and the Replicators.

By human standards, the actions of the Goa’uld are reprehensible.

Other Goa’uld considered this guy’s actions atrocious.

I give you, Anubis.

Anubis started out working for the system lord Apep. Long story short, Apep really liked Anubis and promoted him. Anubis used an Ancient Healing Device on Apep (to heal his boss, but found out it had other properties as well) and learned about six jewels, the Eyes of the Goa’uld, which power a planet buster.

SG-1'S ENEMY WITHIN

Welcome back intrepid adventurers.

In continuing with the Stargate 20th Anniversary series, let’s take a trip through the Stargate.

Every good story has an antagonist which challenges, stretches and occasionally beats the protagonist. In this case, our main enemy is the Goa’uld.

Yes, folks, that little ugly snake thing is the scourge of the universe. These nasty little snakes inhabit other humanoid beings and use their bodies to live, usually, tens of thousands of years.

STARGATE SG-1 THROUGH THE WORMHOLE

Welcome back to Stargate Command, my fellow sci-fi friends.

In continuing with my homage to the Stargate franchise, this week I’d like to feature one of my favorite all-time science fiction series.

When I first saw the movie in 1994, I hoped there would be a follow-up. After all, it stood to reason that there had to be more of Ra’s kind out in the universe.

I waited and waited and nothing came down the pike about a second movie.

What did come down the pike, though, was even better.

Showtime was developing a series!

STARGATE 20TH ANNIVERSARY

Hello my fellow sci-fi fans.

Thank you for joining me last month as I paid homage to my other love, Poetry.

For the next several weeks, I will be doing a series on the movie and later multiple television series, tv movies and games for the phenomena which we know and love, called Stargate!

This year marks the 20th anniversary of the movie which kicked off adventures of many beloved characters, feared alien menaces and some of the best lines on television.

"Gen. O’Neill: [smugly] My, this is an occasion. You know that bitter taste in your throat? It’s kind of wrapped around your uvula? That’s what’s left of your pride. — from Reckoning, Part 1 (Season 8, ep 16)"

On October 28, 1994, this movie debuted in theaters which fused archaeology and alien technology to bring us a fresh perspective on the galaxies around us.

GUEST POET -- ELIZA EARSMAN

Thank you for joining me for the last Poetry feature for National Poetry Month.

This week, I’d like to introduce you to a poet that I met over the web back in October 2013, when she contacted me for a review of her collection. She sent me a free copy of her book. I was so hooked that I supported her by not only writing a review, but purchasing a copy.

I am speaking of Scottish Christian Poet, Eliza Earsman.

GUEST POET -- LIZZY FOX

Welcome to another week of my salute to National Poetry Month.

This week, I would like to introduce you to a poet I met last month at a Pen, Paper, Write Meet Up.

Our group was tasked with a writing assignment and within ten minutes, Lizzy Fox had written a poem that had us all gasping in a breath of awe. It was beautiful, poignant and brilliant.

I knew immediately that I wanted, no, needed to hear/read more of her works. At the end of the group meeting, I introduced myself to her and begged her to let me feature her today. I am happy to say, she said yes.

Collin Kelley Welcome back to my tribute to Poets and their voices.

GUEST POET -- DARYL A. FUNN

As I mentioned last week, April is National Poetry Month. For the next four weeks, I will feature poets that I admire. This week I’d like to introduce you to one of the persons who encouraged me to pursue my writing.

Daryl A. Funn (Mistafunn) was born on August 30 1972, and grew up in Baltimore, Maryland, where—entranced with Langston Hughes, Countee Cullen, and Nikki Giovanni—he began to write at the age of 9.

As an author and poet, his poems and books feature a unique and refreshing style that engages the reader to become attached to the story. Many consider his approach innovative in that it never has just one way to look at the story even from the beginning. Moving to Georgia at age 24, he put himself through college earning a fine arts Bachelors in 2004.
