Excerpt #1:
Being the one chosen to kill the entire evil population is a burden heavier than sin. Not that I know what it’s like to sin, but I imagine this is worse. Killing is never taken lightly, even when sanctioned by our leaders, the same leaders who chose me to carry it out. I’ve lost count of how many Malryx I’ve executed for that exact reason. And now there is only one left. Only one evil being. My purpose of being is almost complete.
Excerpt #2:
The darkness is filled with a silence so thick and unnatural, I want to draw my sword and slice through it. I don’t want to think what that could mean. But it’s the whole reason we are here. To figure it out, this slimy, oily thing that sticks to my Zophasken like tar. My power burns even as I keep it tightly wrapped inside me. Malryx no longer exist. Except no one told this forest.
About the Author:
Janeal Falor lives in Utah where she’s finally managed to live in the same house for more than five years without moving. In her spare time she reads books like they’re nuts covered in caramel and chocolate, cooks whatever strikes her fancy, and enjoys the outdoors. Her husband and three children try to keep up with her overactive imagination. Usually they settle for having dinner on the table, even if she’s still going on about the voices in her head.

I'm giving away a $10 GC to Evernight Teen and as you can see, they are giving away an iPad mini. My question is this: What hooks you into buying a book? What is it that attracts you, the reader? All my titles are available on Amazon, B&N, ET, and most retailers. I'm currently working on the fourth title in my Vulcan Legacies series, Black Apocalypse. Here's a snippet: Grandma Blackwell As she pulled the last batch of cookies from the oven, Viola Blackwell had a strange thought. A tear sprung into her eye. This would be the last time she ever baked her grandson’s favorite cookies. Setting the cookie sheet down, she wiped the single tear away. Walking to Michael’s bedroom, she stopped in the doorway. His back was to her and she could see his shoulders rise and fall as he worked diligently on something. “What are you doing?” she asked. Michael jerked in surprise as he turned to look at her. She could see Michael sliding what looked like a picture and frame under his flannel blanket. “Nothing,” Michael said with a sheepish grin. Viola walked into his bedroom and sat down, careful not to sit on what he was hiding. “I’m your Grandmother. Really, it’s quite alright to show me,” Viola said, a fond smile forming at her lips. She watched as Michael pulled out his project. She gazed at how he held the picture and frame tenderly in his big hands. “May I?” she asked, holding her hands out to accept the frame. “Okay,” Michael said, setting the frame gently in her hands. Viola noticed the embarrassment cross Michael’s face at having been caught with a picture of the girl he’d had a crush on for as long as Viola could remember. She wouldn’t tease him. It broke her heart to sit next to her boy and watch his innocence at loving a girl that would lead to some of the most painful moments in his life. “Ally Watson Blackwell,” Viola said, reading the engraving on the frame, one she knew her boy had taken the time to carve out. “Grandma…” Michael started, his face turning red, embarrassed. “No,” Viola said, cutting him off. “Ally is a lovely girl and I know you’ve pined after her since you were both children.” Viola handed the picture back to Michael. “You knew?” Michael asked, arching a brow at Viola. “Of course. You’re my boy,” Viola said. “Why else would you work for Argyle when you didn’t really need a job at all? It wasn’t farming that held your attention, but the girl on the farm that did.” “Do you think she knows?” Michael asked. “It’s hard to say. You’re both so young.” “But you knew,” Michael said. “Yes, that’s true. I was young once, you know,” Viola said. She turned her thoughts to more serious things. “Blackwell, huh?” Michael rubbed a thumb over Ally’s picture. He glanced up, a serious look leveling out his features. “I love her, Grandma.” Viola rested a hand on his shoulder. “I know.” She turned her memories to the past. Viola had no idea how her life would change, how Michael’s life would change the day she met the Seraph, Ally’s mother. She was told this day would come, the day that she would have to let her beloved boy go to fulfill his destiny. Viola thought she’d prepared herself for the loss of the boy she loved, the boy she’d raised not so much as a grandson, but as her own child. It occurred to her that the years passed by too quickly, that no amount of prepping for this day would’ve ever been enough to help her face the inevitable. “I’m going to marry her, Grandma. One day, she’ll be my wife.” “I’m leaving for Florida this evening,” Viola said, standing up. Clearing her throat of any shakiness that threatened to overtake her she said, “Come have some chocolate chip cookies with me before I leave.”

Reviews
I'm terrible at keeping up with reviewing and blogging. I do try to randomly blog about some good reads. So here's a list of books I've recently read and reviewed. Thank you to the publishers and authors for sending! As an author I certainly know the pains (all too well) of obtaining reviews and trying to get the word spread.
This year I've introduced to serialization in novels. It's like an extended excerpt. The pros of this is that the reads are short so if you're pressed for time these kinds of novels work well. The cons to this (depending on how you perceive it) is that you are left wanting more. Momentum Publishing introduced this type of reading to me and as a consumer of books, I admit, when they sent me the first episode of FURY (one of my all time favorite books) I couldn't wait for them to send me the rest, so I went ahead and purchased the second episode. They caught me and indulged my impatience and sent me the rest of FURY before I purchased the rest (which was so good, I would've gladly bought the rest). At any rate, the VIRTUAL ARCANA is of the same type. Short, sweet, simple. So be warned there are more episodes out there and I highly enjoyed this first installment. 4 STARS. Here's a link to my review: GR Review
I have to admit, Entangled Teen is one of my favorite publishers to work with. I know when I receive a novel from them, 9 out of 10X, they are wonderful. The BOOK OF IVY was no exception. I loved talking (briefly on Twitter) with the Ms. Engel about her debut novel. It was one of those books that once I started I couldn't stop reading it. I loved the way it jumped right into the story. I get a bit bored of novels that take FOREVER to set the world up. I know there are those editors and readers who are of a different opinion and that's what makes the world of publishing diverse and probably why YA works best for me. 5 STARS. I'm waiting patiently Ms. Engel for the next installment:) Here's a link to my Goodreads review: GR Review
STOLEN MOON of the Light Chronicles (book 2) was a wonderful read. I had the privilege of reading Ms. Wheaton's other two novels and would highly recommend them as well. Plus, the covers are gorgeous!
5 STARS! Here's a link to my Goodreads review: GR Review
DAUGHTER OF SMOKE AND BONE. I'll admit, when I checked out my review for this novel, I was a bit surprised by how short it is. Maybe a paragraph if that. It doesn't mean that I enjoyed the book any less, but I'd guess I wrote such a short review as this book has already garnered so much attention. I try to promote works from smaller presses simply because they get little attention and marketing for indie presses and smaller publishers is so much for painstaking than with a big NY house. That's not speaking to the quality of the book. A good book is a good book regardless of whether it's with a big publisher or a small publisher. I'm only speaking to the fact that the same resources are not available to a smaller press vs a larger one. With all that out of the way, I gave this novel 4 stars and I will say this, I will NEVER look at teeth or bones in the same light. While I was reading this, I kept thinking, "What in the hell is the deal with all this teeth business?" And when I found out....well, here's my Goodreads review: GR Review
I enjoyed all the books above and more. As I said before, I'm not very prompt with blogging about books I've read. I try to be diligent about Tweeting and posting reviews to GR and Amazon. Some of the books I'm anticipating for this year would definitely include The Dead of Winter by Kresley Cole. It comes out in a few days and I'm nearly beside myself waiting.
Also this year, I'm still sticking with my goal of writing 3 novels this year. I think I can, I think I can, I think I can!

General News and Goals for 2015
I've taken a long break from writing and have been attempting to get back in the saddle, or at least my chair/computer desk.
I've started on a YA Contemporary Romance and am 3 chapters in. I've got this one planned out and am excited about it.
Recently I started on a YA Dystopian novel and am still working out the details in my head. I wrote the jacket cover first and am working from that. That is a first for me, but I guess you go with what comes to you and not so much how it does. I was driving home from work and literally within 5 minutes the back cover (which is something I struggle with writing after I have a completed manuscript, not before) came to me. Here's a preview:
Nothing is what it seems.
Right?
Wrong.
Everything was perfectly clear to me.
The height of the 21st century was defined by technology. Social media was at its peak. Virtual realities replaced our way of life. Society forgot how to communicate in person, how to interact, how to live without computers. Technology was invented by man and inevitably replaced man.
My father kept me away from the trend in humanity so that I may keep mine. I was taught tradition, culture, history, so that one day I might help the world to remember what they had lost at the hands of Dr. Hunt, the genius responsible for the technology savvy world of yesterday.
Prior to the Collapse, Dr. Hunt had one last invention he placed all his faith in to remedy his tragic mistake in the technology driven world he created.
Me.
A pharmaceutical concoction put me to sleep with a shelf life of one hundred years.
My name is Isiah Hunt. Dr. Hunt was my father and after a hundred year sleep I’ve never been more awake in my life. With the new year approaching (we'll see how this actually turns out :) I'm setting a goal to have 3 novels completed for 2015YA Contemporary Romance YA Dystopian Book 4 in the Vulcan Legacies, Black Apocalypse Here's to a new year and to accomplishing goals set. Also around the corner is my publishers birthday. To kick off a new year they along with an array of talented authors are participating in a blog hop where we'll be giving away some cool prizes including an iPad mini.

The Joys of Being Asked What You Make As An Author
I've been vacant from a blog that I feel I once dedicated myself to quite frequently. I'm sure I've addressed in previous posts the joys of working, reading, writing and balancing family life. I guess I'll recap that subject.
I'll be honest, as an aspiring author I really had no idea what life would be like after potentially publishing a novel. Now having three novels under my belt I can say that life is quite the same as before with the exception of questions that crop up from a person here or there and usually the number one question is, "How much do you get paid?"
I'll be honest, that question always throws me a bit off. Let me explain why. I think as an author I'd much rather receive questions like:
"How did you get published?""What was that like?""How did you come up with the idea/s for your novel/s?""What's going to happen next? Can you give me a hint?"Something, anything that would give me the feeling that a potential reader was interested in something pertaining to my work as an author other than the royalties I receive.
And here's why (I don't know how other authors feel, so I'm only speaking for myself):
Well, the number one reason after being asked that question is that it certainly makes me feel that there is no substantial interest in my books from the person asking. It's a bit discouraging to press on when you feel that people are only interested in what money your characters make for you rather than the characters themselves. I don't want to say that it's rude because that sounds a bit harsh, but as an author, it does make me feel that others measure the success of my work based off what the pay outcome was. And for me, while a large paycheck would always be nice, I was with these stories from the moment of their inception. I stayed up late at night trying to make them better, polishing them until I thought for sure my fingertips would bleed. I've never deserted them in the hard times when they received rejection after rejection and there was no one on this planet that loved them but me. For me, it's so much more than a paycheck. There is no better feeling than receiving a positive review on your work from some random blogger, reviewer or customer that you don't know from Adam. It gives the author the feeling of, "Yes! Someone out there on this planet who doesn't know me loves my work and they actually want more!"
But you want to talk about a buzz kill? Ask an author how much they get paid. To kill the curiosity, I'll say this. I'm not a NY Times Bestselling author. I'm sure things are quite different financially for them. I'm with a smaller press, but I am no less proud. Publishing is...tough to break into. When I received my quarterly royalties this summer I was able to pay my insurance. I was thrilled with that. With that said, it certainly is nothing that I can up and quit my day job over, but it sure is money I didn't have before. So in my mind, it's a win/win.
Also, I think it's a bit frustrating for me as I don't have the luxury of staying home, drinking white chocolate mocha while gazing upon my computer screen conjuring the next greatest idea for a novel. I have to work like many authors in addition to writing and therefore know and appreciate the struggles of trying to squeeze in another novel in between work and life in general. Many of my author friends have day jobs. Two off the top of my head are teachers that have to bring work home and work long after that final bell rings.
And as the Director of Nursing for a large facility spread throughout 3-4 counties, here's a glimpse of what life is like for me:
In addition to the above, I have two little girls, I carry a pager (I call it the spawn of Satan), take work home with me, actually have to deal with real life issues (after all, my family are not robots) and somehow try to fit writing books in there. So, I'd rather not discuss pay. I'd love to talk about my books, would love to have someone interested in them, because for me, that is an escape from the above that I live everyday. Questions anybody?

New Release and excerpt: Devils In The Dark by Marcus Damanda, Book 1

New Release!
Devils In The Dark by Marcus Damanda, Book 1 in The Devil In Miss Drake's Class Trilogy....

By: Marcus Damanda
Published by: Evernight Teen Publishing
Release date: 11/14/14
Genre: YA Horror/Suspense/Contemporary
Blurb:
To most of the Facebook Fifteen, bullying Audrey Bales was just a game—until two deep cuts with a Swiss army knife changed everything forever. Audrey didn’t want attention anymore. After five weeks at Fairview High School, Audrey wanted to die.
The doctors did the only thing they could with her: they put her away.
But in Fairview, Virginia, the nightmare is only beginning. The chat session had not gone unobserved. The Facebook Fifteen have drawn the attention of an ancient evil that lives only to punish those who would prey upon the weak.
They are the ghosts of 1,000 dead children—1,000 suicides—and their master…
Their master likes Audrey Bales.
And as Audrey attempts to heal her mind and body, far from home, their master prepares for the revenge he will unleash upon her return.
Excerpt:
Underneath the blackened veil of her powered-off monitor, the comments kept coming, kept taunting her.
The observer had stopped watching. He leaned back in his chair, head upturned to the ceiling, eyes closed, still eating. The overripe apple had a worm in it, and he sucked it down.
He projected his sight outward, miles and miles from his little home. He didn’t know where he was anymore.
Somebody’s house. An empty room. A closet.
Here he first saw the girl, the one they were tormenting. Her Facebook icon had shown only a skull and crossbones. In real life, she might have been pretty, if she had not worked so hard to hide it.
Familiar too. Something in her eyes and her lips.
She was close, very close, to a bad decision.
She was imagining the ghost of her brother and talking to it, opening boxes that contained his possessions. She listened to him speak words the observer could not hear. Oh, he wished he could. From this distance all he could hear was the pain inside of her, the loneliness, screams within whispers. An oncoming storm.
It made him angry on her behalf.
He returned his gaze to the real world of his apartment. The five of them were still chatting, their cruel banter punctuated by internet abbreviations and emoticons, calling for Audrey-Bear to say something, say something….
More joined the chat.
He shook his head.
You deserve to die, he thought. All of you.
**** Audrey returned to her bedroom and closed the door. This time, she broke a house rule and locked it. She put the blanket back in place and thumbed the monitor back on.
It was nearly one in the morning, yet the number of people on Cody’s page had tripled. Stranger still was the activity coming through on her end.
She gazed in bewilderment.
Benny Talbot has sent you a friend request.
Heather Roberts has sent you a friend request.
Ally Watson has sent you a friend request.
Gabriel Daniels has sent you a friend request.
Eleven requests, all kids from school. Most of them had sent her personal messages too. Some were fake-friendly, some openly mocking. Most pretended to rally in her support, as if they had somehow stumbled upon this Internet lynching by accident, all at the same time, and were offended by it. A virtual party had gathered in Cody’s little corner of cyberspace, and Audrey was the game they were playing.
Had Maggie called or texted them all out of bed?
“Creative,” she said. “You’re really good at this.”
She wasn’t crying anymore. In fact, she was perfectly calm. With the ghost of her brother standing by her side, she set his old Swiss Army knife—he’d gotten it for Scouts, before he had quit—next to the keyboard.
Click Accept, her brother said. For all of them. Now, before they give up and start to log off.
She accepted them all, and the result was chat room bedlam. The comments came faster than she could read. Evidently this was the very height of hilarity.
And, naturally, as soon as she had accepted them all, one-by-one, they unfriended her, and posted.
Just kidding!
Sry! Changed my mind!
What an idiot!
Inspired, she clicked the Like button over every comment. Then, ignoring the perplexed responses to that maneuver, she got to work.
She retrieved the gym shirt from under her bed. Most days this particular item of attire would have remained a crumpled ball in her P.E. locker after school, but she’d had to wear it all day, and so it had come home with her.
“Turn your head, Alex,” she said, as if he were really there.
And as if he were really there, he answered. Not looking, not looking.
Once she had the shirt on and smoothed it out, she sat back at her desk, got out her cell phone, tied her hair in a tail, and took a picture of herself.
**** When the first picture appeared on Cody’s page, the observer knew exactly what was coming. He’d seen it before. The details differed each time, but the common threads were easily picked out: theatrics, spite, spectacle—and from the other end, disbelief. Then there would be panic, frantic attempts to undo the damage, and afterward, there would be remorse.
From most of them.
The picture was off-center. The girl was smiling, posing. The mascara tracks on her face looked like war paint.
Val: OMG, she’s postin selfies!
Cody: Give us a twerk, emo.
How they didn’t see what was coming, the observer could not fathom. But that was part of the pattern too. Bullies, as a rule, didn’t get it until it was too late—for the victim, or less frequently, for themselves.
The observer was truly torn. On the one hand, if she went through with it, she’d set him free. He had made contact with her, though she didn’t know it, and he was the oldest within the host. After many, many years, it was his turn, and he would finally learn what lay beyond this purgatory. But on the other hand, he felt bad for her. He really did.
“Let’s go,” he said to the screen. The suspense was killing him. “What’s next, Audrey?”
A second picture came up even as the first was being liked and shared by nearly everyone on the page. This one silenced most of them.
Audrey was holding an unfolded pocket knife against her cheek with one hand while the other took the picture, still smiling, tilting her head.
At first, the only comment came from Maggie: Drama. Whatever.
Audrey responded: Stick around. This is for your benefit.
Everything slowed down, then. Time rolled out like an empty rug, the Facebook page inert and dead. Minutes passed with nothing.
Then, Val: Audrey?
Still, nothing.
Val again: Audrey, don’t be dumb. Come on.
Five minutes became ten.
Maggie: She went to bed. She wants us to worry all night. As if we would.
After fifteen minutes of relative inactivity, the final picture appeared. About the Author:
