Lucky is Reading Giveaway Blog Hop!
Welcome to the Lucky is Reading Blog Hop! Today, I have a giveaway for you of a fabulous book that I feel lucky to have read!
Whenever Ilona Andrews (a husband-and-wife writing team) comes out with a new book, I grab it immediately, because I know I’m going to love it! Clean Sweep was no exception. So why do I feel lucky to have read it? Two reasons: first, it appears to be self-published, and whether that’s because they wanted to try out hybrid authorship, or because their publishers didn’t want the book (or some other reason altogether), the existence of indie publishing means that the book was available. Any other time in publishing history, it might not have been. And second, this novel plays with the whole “vampire vs. werewolf in competition for the magical heroine’s love” trope in some hysterical ways!
So take a moment to check the book out, then check out my own vampire novel (on sale for $.99 March 8-14), and finally, HOP to the rest of the posts to see what else is up for grabs!
A reluctant vampire hunter, stalking New York City as only a scorned bride can.
Elle Dupree has her life all figured out: first a wedding, then her Ph.D., then swank faculty parties where she’ll serve wine and cheese and introduce people to her husband the lawyer.
But those plans disintegrate when she walks in on a vampire draining the blood from her fiancé Greg. Horrified, she screams and runs–not away from the vampire, but toward it, brandishing a wooden letter opener.
As she slams the improvised stake into the vampire’s heart, a team of black-clad men bursts into the apartment. Turning around to face them, Elle discovers that Greg’s body is gone—and her perfect life falls apart.

My Sexy Saturday Hop ~ Sexy Me Once ~ Skin Deep
Welcome to the My Sexy Saturday blog hop! This week, writers are joining in with seven words, seven sentences, or seven paragraphs from their works.
This week’s hop theme is “Sexy Me Once”. And I have a work in progress where the attraction is absolutely instant, so I’m joining in with an excerpt from that work! Take a moment to read the excerpt below, then HOP to check out the rest of the sexy snippets!

Excerpt ~ Skin Deep, work-in-progress
I’m not the kind of woman who goes around kissing strange men—especially strange men with hypnotic gold eyes who set off every internal warning system I’ve got.
But all those rules went out the window when this man kissed me. The almost peppery scent that had frozen me earlier now flooded my senses. His hands dropped from my shoulders and ran down my arms, wrapping around my waist and pulling me closer to him.
Muscles that moments ago had been writhing in an attempt to shapeshift now twisted to move closer to him.
He leaned me backwards and I felt the edge of the bed push against the back of my knees. I could feel him against me, heat pouring through his body and into mine.

BOOK SYNOPSIS
HER IMMORTAL VIKING by Adele Downs
Viking Warrior. Immortal Slave. Freed by Love.
An original contemporary fairy tale inspired by Norse mythology
Penny pleads for divine intervention from overwork and mountainous debt one desperate, lonely night. She sings songs of praise, chants like a yogi, and rubs her belly like Buddha until the crystal charm on her navel shimmers, hoping to draw the attention of someone up there.
From the place between heaven and earth, in the west beyond the seas, an immortal hears Penny’s cries. Once a fearless Viking warrior, Gunnar has been cast into eternal servitude by an angry god and made a Light Elf. While Penny sleeps, he comes to earth from Alfheim for a single night to complete her tasks. When she awakens and confronts him, the handsome immortal kisses her, sparking a night of forbidden passion. By dawn, the couple has fallen in love.
Dark forces target Penny, seeking revenge for Gunnar’s earthly misdeeds. To protect his mortal lover, Gunnar takes up his sword to defend her. Though his strength and courage are unmatched, it might be the power of Gunnar and Penny’s love that saves them both.

EXCERPT
He smoothed her hair and rubbed a thick tendril between his thumb and forefinger. “I am Gunnar.” He pronounced the name Goo-nar.
An emblem of the sun, surrounded by a circle, had been branded on the back of his powerful hand. Penny touched the scar while he held a length of her hair, recognizing Freyr’s sacred insignia from her textbooks. “The pain must have been excruciating.” Without thinking, she lifted the old wound to her mouth and laid kisses along its perimeter before pressing a kiss to the icon inside.
Tremors vibrated across her lips when they touched the ancient symbol and her body tingled with the contact. The brand grew warm and then hot against her mouth, though it did not burn. She ran her tongue over the thick scars to erase the heat, and then licked the center, finishing with a tiny swirl.
Gunnar’s gasp of surprise was the last thing she expected when she lifted her head. He released her hair and drew away.
“I’m sorry. I don’t know what got into me. Have I offended you?” She’d always been popular with men, and comfortable around them, but her behavior with Gunnar was bold, even for her. She sat up. “Am I under some kind of spell?”
Gunnar shook his head. “I used my powers to heal you, but your free will remains intact.”
She searched his face for clues about what to do next, because desire shone behind the wary expression in his eyes. Something else shone there, too. Gratitude. Penny waited for Gunnar’s reply without letting go of his disfigured hand.
He said, “Kindness isn’t something I’m used to finding. Perhaps you’d be less inclined toward compassion if you knew what I’d done to deserve this brand of servitude.”
She reached out and draped an arm around his neck to bring him closer. Their gazes locked and held. Gunnar’s eyes were like pools of ice blue water that pulled her in and down.
Her breathing slowed while the sound of her heartbeat rushed blood through her ears. “I am Penelope. And if you’re from Alfheim, I know who and what you are. I just don’t understand why you’re here.” How could she deserve his rare, benevolent gifts? She was just an ordinary woman from an ordinary town, barely scraping by.
His warm breath grazed her cheek in shallow rushes, lifting goose bumps across her skin. His wide, firm mouth smelled of sweet ground parsley and fresh-picked mint. “Sometimes we get what we need, simply because we ask. That’s the beauty and power of the unexpected.”

Guest Author: Tamsin Baker
Thank you so much for having me on your blog today Margo.
In my ‘real life’ (away from writing, publishing and the amazing authors I get to talk to every day,) I occasionally share my secret life with my every day family and friends.
The reaction is always the same. Surprise, laughter, and occasionally a snide comment or two.
The questions are always the same too, how do you write so many different stories and do you write about your own experiences.
Both answers are simply answered, it’s easy and NO!
The process for me changes with each story, but with the one I wrote for Evernight’s manlove uniform anthology, it was fast, electric and passionate. The scene I mean.
When I get inspired, I don’t feel like I have much control over what’s happening in the scene or on the page. It’s more like watching a movie. I sit back and follow the action unfolding before my very eyes, and write it down as I go, giggling and squirming along with my characters. Lachlan and Tayte’s story was very much like that for me.
I love m/m bdsm stories and although there is some D/s in my story- Real life role play, it isn’t true bdsm. Just one dominant man making his lover feel needed and desired.
The answer to the question of whether I write what I know, is usually answered when I tell people I write m/m (and I’m obviously a woman.) Then the question transforms into, well, then how can you write something you don’t know.
I laugh and answer, that’s like asking JK Rowling if she’s a witch. You do some research and use your imagination, it is fiction after all.
I love writing and the world I create inside my head. There is nothing I’d rather do and I hope you enjoy the stories in our anthology.
Here’s a short excerpt to whet your appetite. Enjoy :)
And thank you so much for having me
Excerpt
He was in the shower with his head tilted back, pleasure rippling across his handsome face. Maybe the other guy was on his knees? Tayte stood on his toes and used the mirror to spy his lover with … his own hand. Lachlan gasped again and stroked faster, his breathing coming in hard pants.
Relief surged through Tayte, hard and swift. It was so intense, his knees weakened, and he gripped the door frame to keep from collapsing. Lachlan wasn’t cheating on him. Of course he wasn’t. His heart slowed to an almost sickening thud. He hadn’t been wrong about this guy he’d brought into his home and opened his heart to.
Lachlan moaned, and, pushing his anxiety aside, Tayte refocused on his lover. He was getting close, and Tayte couldn’t have that. He didn’t want Lachlan coming without him. He knocked loudly on the bathroom door twice then pushed it open, his cock lengthening inside his pants. His boy was so beautiful.
Lachlan’s gaze swung toward him as he released his cock like it had burned his palm. His face flushed red, and he took a step back in the shower attempting to hide beneath the spray. Tayte raised an eyebrow at his lover. “Do you need a hand, honey?”
Tayte eyed the lovely cock straining up Lachlan’s belly and noticed all the signs of his embarrassment. Feet shuffling, breathing rate increased, deflating erection.
“I … you didn’t tell me you were coming home early, babe.”
Tayte undid his shirt buttons, not caring that he was about to throw his uniform across the foggy, wet bathroom. “Obviously, or I’d hope you wouldn’t have started without me.” He watched Lachlan’s tongue sneak out to caress his lips as his eyes followed Tayte’s hands.
Lachlan smiled at him, his eyes shadowed as he shrugged and picked up the soap, ignoring the fact that Tayte was now shirtless. “You’ve been tired lately, Tayte.”
He had been exhausted lately, but he certainly wasn’t feeling like that now. Tayte walked towards the vanity, opened the bathroom drawer and grabbed the lube.
From the pout on Lachlan’s mouth and the sad look around his eyes, it seemed that Tayte had been dropping the ball, and he wanted to make it up to him. Lachlan was submissive to him in almost every way, but tonight his boy needed some special attention.
Tayte stripped off his pants, his underwear, socks and threw them toward the laundry basket.
“Does my baby boy need some attention?”
Lachlan’s soapy hands froze, and he turned to face him, eyes wide.

Spotlight On: Whipped, by Kelly Collins
Title: Whipped – The Decadent Series Book 3
Author: Kelly Collins
Genre: Contemporary/Erotic Romance

Roxy Somerville grew up with everything. Sports cars and designer clothes were commonplace in her life. Love, affection, and autonomy were not. She left her life of luxury, and traded her riches for freedom, a freedom that would lead her back to her first love. A freedom that nearly cost her life.
Bobby Anderson had very little in the way of financial wealth. He had a supportive family and it made him the richest of men. For a time, he had Roxy, then she was gone. Now she’s back in his life, and he will stop at nothing to keep her.
Travel through past mistakes to second chances. Take a journey straight to the heart of love. Whipped is dipped in intrigue and suspense, amidst sizzling hot passion. Once you find yourself Whipped, there is no turning back.
The drink special tonight is the Painus Anus. It’s a Tequila drink that contains:
1 Part Tequila
1 Slice of jalapeño pepper
Dash of Hot Sauce
Roxy loves this drink. She’s a huge fan of hot and spicy, the hotter the better. This one doesn’t disappoint. Many of the patrons call it the double dipper––hurts going in––hurts coming out.
“Hey, Roxy.” She looks up and sees Trevor and Chris who stand at the end of the bar. She races over to give them a hug. They are hands down her favorite people in the world.
“What are you guys doing here?” She pushes away and looks at them. “This isn’t your normal night.” They’re not Sunday night regulars. They come Fridays, Saturdays, and occasionally Mondays.
“We came in to get the lowdown on your date last night.” Chris waggles his eyebrows. What a dweeb. His over-the-top behavior used to catch her off guard. Now she’s used to him. How he ended up with Trevor is a mystery. It’s funny how opposites attract.
“I don’t kiss and tell.” She gives them a stern don’t-go-there look.
“Bullshit, you kissed and told about the fireman. What is it with you and men in uniform?” Oh… Dan the fireman. What an awful night that was. The memory makes her shudder.
“I only talked because you guys wouldn’t stop asking about his hose. I told you, just to shut you up.” She disregards them with a flip of her hand.
“If I remember correctly, by the end of the night you were begging for more hose and he had nothing to give you.” Both men break out in laughter causing every eye in the bar to light upon them. There is something contagious about spontaneous laughter.

“One time won’t be enough. I’ll tell you that much, princess,” he said as his hand was traveling down her outer thigh and then back up to cup her bottom.
A punch to her gut couldn’t have been any more shocking. She sat straight up, pushing him off with a burst of strength she hadn’t known she possessed. “What did you say? What did you call me?”
Did he know? Had he known all along? Was he loyal to her father or…her brother? Would he keep her captive until her brother arrived for the reward?
“What? What’s wrong?” He sounded a little like a child whose favorite toy had just been taken away.
“You called me princess. Why would you do that?” She couldn’t quite make out his features and took comfort in the dimness as she tried stuffing her breasts back into her suit.
“It’s an endearment. And since I don’t know your name I thought it sounded better than whore.”
She gasped. Where was that tranq-pen when she needed it?
“Not that I have anything against whores,” he back-peddled. “I love whores. Look at you. I have absolutely nothing against you.”
“I am not a whore.”
He sighed a very put-on-upon sigh. “Ah right, there’s a politically correct name. Ummm patron-pleaser? Was that it?”
“Patron-please this.” She had found the tranq-pen beside her leg and in one quick movement had the needle stabbed deep into his shoulder.
He yelled. “What the…”
Mya quickly scrambled off the bed, not at all sure where she was going to run.
He pulled the pen out of his arm and looked down. “Tranq-gun? Jupiter’s tits, you stuck me with a tranq-gun?”
Mya’s heart was pounding. She’d never actually used the tranq-pen before. The instructions had said the effects were immediate, but as to the definition of immediate she wasn’t sure. Could he kill her in the amount of time he had before the drug took effect? It looked like he could kill very quickly. “It’s a tranq-pen, not a gun. The effects will only put you out for a few hours verse a gun that could put you down permanently.”
Any second now. The effects should kick in right about…
“Ahhhhh.” He threw the pen against the wall and lurched for her, hands extended as if to close around her throat.
Mya never moved so fast in her life. She jumped out of the way and headed toward the exit. She didn’t make it that far. He tackled her legs and they both went down. She placed a well-aimed kick at his head. He caught her foot and twisted her leg. She rolled over on her back to prevent her knee from snapping.
Now. Now. Now would be good.
He held her to the floor, both arms above her head. His knees pinned on top of her legs. “Why! Why did you tranq me? Is it to rob me blind? Is that it?”
Her space suit was still unzipped, breasts barely covered as her heart slammed into her chest. “Holy Jupiter, I gave you enough tranq to down an elephant. Why are you still awake?”
He shook his head like a rabid dog. Suddenly, she was glad of the scarce lighting—not wanting to see in his eyes what he was planning to do to her. “No. No, if I am going out, you’ll be here when I wake up.”
He clasped her wrist and stood, dragging her over to his bag in the corner. He stumbled, and for a blessed moment she thought he was going down. Then he righted himself and dragged her across the floor like a rag doll.
When she saw the current-cuffs, she renewed her efforts to fight. There was no way handcuffing her would work out in her favor. “Help. Help!”
“Scream all you want. There’s no one here that’s going to save you.” Even in the graying shadows she could see his wicked smile.
Everything happened so fast. A cuff was slapped on her wrist, the other end to his. “That should keep you,” he growled.
She was sprawled out on the floor, arm at an awkward angle, spacesuit surrendering any attempts at decency. “My God, was there even tranquilizer in that pen?”
“Apparently not, Princess. I feel fine.” He took a step, then stilled. His body swayed, one arm out for balance. Mya had about two seconds to get up and push him in the direction of the bed. She had no intention of getting crushed underneath two hundred-plus pounds of unconscious man.
She’d once watched a logger take down a huge pine that had the misfortune of being in the path of Prince Sar’s new swimming pool. When the tree fell, the whole ground shook with the vibration. Watching him fall, Mya felt sorry for the bed.
The momentum of his fall propelled her forward, and she ended face down, half on the bed and half off. It was two full minutes of stilted breathing and silent praying before she was positive he was out. She was going to issue a strongly worded complaint to whoever defined the word immediate in the tranq-pen advertisement.
She pushed her sweat-dampened hair out of her eyes, shoved her breasts back into her suit and zipped back up. With dignity resorted, Mya surveyed her predicament.
Oh Saturn’s rings, she was so screwed.
She needed to think, and being face down in the bed wasn’t helping. After much grunting and shoving, she got the man on his back.
“Lights,” she called out.
Nothing happened. She did a mental eye roll. Of course, the room would be programed to respond to his voice. Instead, she scrambled, with some difficulty, to the side of the bed where the manual controls were located.
The room lightened gradually. She sat on the bed, suddenly exhausted. Mya looked down at the current-cuffs that attached them together. She didn’t have a lot of experience with cuffs. Okay, none at all, really, but she did know that they required the owner’s thumb print in order to open them. Easy enough, him being unconscious and all. She searched for the thumb sensor and swore. The thumb print would’ve worked if, of course, they’d been remotely modern. Instead, these current-cuffs were archaic, needing a pin code to break the electrical charge that kept them together.
Mya let her head fall into her hands and then glanced at the man passed out cold beside her. Curiosity and a pang of familiarity had her studying his features more closely. The shape of his lips had her remembering someone else’s face. Someone she’d known in a different place. In a place where fondness clouded her memories and a sense of happiness curled her lips. With a finger, she brushed his hair out of his eyes and gasped.
She knew those eyes, that line of a jaw, the profile of a strong roman nose. He was a tad bit older and more than a tad bit rougher around the edges, but there was no mistake.
It was him. The man she’d been in love with since she’d been eleven years old.
