Spotlight On: The Coin, by Maria Elena Alonso-Sierra
Who ever thought a coin could get you killed?
A cunning killer trusted his secret was safe, an innocent woman holds the key to his destruction, and an intelligence officer must keep her alive before the madman can strike the fatal blow.
When Gabriela Martinez finds a mysterious coin in the French Riviera, she is thrust into a struggle between governments, terrorists, and madmen, all seeking knowledge she doesn’t know she has. Richard Harrison, the intelligence officer assigned to protect her, has all he can do to keep her safe. But when the psychological games to terrorize Gabriela escalate beyond his control, Richard must find a solution, if not, it may be too late for them both.
Set in the exotic French Riviera, The Coin is a story of hatred, betrayal, love and duty—of terrible and painful choices that, nonetheless, bring about personal triumph.

About the Author
Maria Elena Alonso-Sierra is a romantic suspense author with a unique point of view. Her adventure novels take place in locales across Europe and the United States, reflecting her international upbringing and extensive time as a global traveler. In her duology, The Coin and The Book of Hours, her characters, Gabriela and Richard, walk the same paths as their creator, though her life was never in so much danger.
Ms. Alonso-Sierra’s writing career began circa age thirteen with a very juvenile science fiction short story, but the writing bug hit, and she has been writing, in one capacity or another, ever since. She has worked as a professional dancer, singer, journalist, and literature teacher (and not necessarily in that order—she likes variety) and holds a Masters in English literature. She loves to hear from readers and, when not writing, roams around to discover new places to set her novels.
Ms. Alonso-Sierra is currently working on her third novel, and lives in North Carolina with her husband and her dog, Amber.

About the Author
I can’t write without a hoodie. Yeah, I live it Texas. We all have our quirks.
I majored in accounting in college. I was required to declare a major, but I had no clue what I wanted to do, so I picked accounting because it was the first thing listed in the booklet the counselor gave me. Surprisingly, I graduated with a 4.0 GPA. Go figure.
Forget coffee. Hand over the Red Bull or Monster Khaos and no one gets hurt. Seriously, just set it down and step away. I will turn into a normal human after I guzzle my can of caffeine.
I hate to cook, but love to watch cooking shows on television.
I paint my nails weird colors just to see my husband roll his eyes and make my 9 year-old twin girls giggle. Oh, and mortify my 13 year-old son.
I’m a hopeful romantic and love swoon-worthy endings that keep the butterflies going for days, but I don’t believe a HEA always ends with the boy getting the girl. Sometimes a HEA is an ending we don’t see coming, but is still best for the characters.
I write across genres in the young adult and new adult age groups while eating way too many peanut butter M&Ms (but we’ll keep that second part just between us).
I was born and raised in Flint, Michigan, but now live in a suburb of Houston, TX with my very supportive family, a 125lb rescue “puppy” and a 12lb attack cat, also a rescue animal.
And last, (but certainly not least), I love my family with everything in me. Everything I am, is theirs. There are no words in any language known to man to describe my love for them. They are my center.
I’d love to hear from you. So drop me an email! Let’s chat. You tell me what you like in books, what you’d like to see happen in the writing community, what type of books you like to see more of…less of—I want to hear it all! So tell me, please. Because the one thing I wish I could put on my list, but I still haven’t figured out how to do, is mind-reading. But don’t tell my kids. I still have them fooled. :)

Limitless Publishing
Summary from Goodreads:
Brogen Mathers can’t deal with teen drama… As an empath, she is constantly bombarded with other people’s energies. Despite coping techniques taught by her psychologist mother, it’s often too much to bear, forcing her to avoid most activities a typical high school junior would enjoy. Jay Wilken won’t let his past define him… A dead mother and an alcoholic father brought Jay to Stanton, but he doesn’t want pity. His good looks, charisma, and friendly nature quickly win over the whole student body, but he has his eye on one girl…Brogen. Brogen can’t believe anyone could be so genuinely nice. It has to be an act, right? But when Jay literally saves her from deadly jaws, she has to admit he’s exactly what he appears, and he’s worth risking the potential emotional upheaval. “Drama” might as well be Becca Grant’s middle name… Another newcomer to Stanton, Becca’s blonde beauty and abundant attitude shoots her straight to the top of the popularity charts—and she believes Jay belongs right there beside her. Accustomed to getting exactly what she wants, she launches a relentless mean-girl campaign to shake up Brogen and claim Jay for her own. Everything changes with a devastating diagnosis… When Jay learns he has a rare and potentially fatal disorder, he keeps it secret and begins to push Brogen away to spare her future pain—which is exactly the sort of opening Becca is waiting for. As Jay’s well-meaning deception unravels, Brogen realizes there is much more than her heart at stake… But how far is she willing to go to fight for someone she loves?
Excerpt
Things always looked different the next day. Skies seemed bluer, the grass was greener. The worries of yesterday were magically reduced to a manageable size, and brand new ideas and thoughts were born. Oddly enough, Mom’s words were like seeds planted in the night, now growing and blossoming inside me. Jay was very much alive. He was healthy, a bit fragile, but more alive than many kids my age who lived life mindlessly. If anything, this stupid disorder made him more alive. Made me more alive. I wanted to make memories with Jay— live each day to the fullest, laugh until my belly hurt, cry at sad movies with him, and watch the sunrise and the sunset whenever I could. Life was a gift, not to be taken for granted. It could be here one day and gone the next, or it could go on for a very long time.

5 Fabulous Fantasies Based in the Real World ~ A Guest Post by Rebecca Chastain, Author of A Fistful of Fire
The cornerstone of any good fantasy novel is the world—how does it differ from our ordinary world, who has the magic, and what creatures exist. But just because fantasy novels include magic doesn’t meant they can’t take place right here on Earth. Some of my favorite fantasy novels are based on the real world, and no two are alike. Without further ado, here are five fabulous fantasy worlds, in no particular order.
Ilona Andrews’s Kate Daniels series. What’s not to love about this unique world? Magic comes and goes in waves as a response and backlash to the escalating technology of the past millennium. And while the shape shifters are similar to those seen in many urban fantasies, the vampires are a whole new breed of brainless, mind-controlled once-human animals; the main character is a badass sword-wielding woman with mysterious, powerful magic in her blood; and many of the enemies she encounters are brand-new to Andrews’s world.
Naomi Novik’s Temeraire series. For a novel that feels rife with magic, there’s shockingly little. In fact, there’s only one difference between Novik’s world and the real world in this alternate history set during the Napoleonic wars: dragons. Intelligent, able to speak English (and other languages), and some large enough to carry an entire platoon of men, the dragons are integrated into the world as seamlessly as any other animal—with astounding consequences on the shape of history. With a bond to a single person reminiscent of Anne McCaffrey’s dragons, Novik’s dragons work with their humans to shape the world, through war, politics, and personal motives. This series is as entertaining as it is addictive. Plus, dragons. Need I say more?
Gail Carriger’s Parasol Protectorate series. Ever wonder how the tiny northern island of the United Kingdom grew into a world power by the 1800s? With a little help from werewolves and vampires, of course. This lighthearted alternate history couldn’t be more different from Novik’s, but it’s equally as addictive. In this world, a person’s soul, or their excess of soul, determines whether they’ll survive the change to a werewolf or vampire, and the main character is a perfectly upstanding woman who happens to have no soul at all. I love how Carriger turns the genre stereotypes on their ends in this Victorian novel, where a vampire’s attack might be frightening, but above all, it’s plain rude.
Kim Harrison’s Rachel Morgan series. There’s a special place in my heart for these novels, since they were the first to introduce me to the urban fantasy genre. Like Andrews’s world, Harrison sets her novel in the present day, but one in which magic, and magical creatures, have always existed—even if the human population has only recently become aware of them. Add in an eclectic cast of creatures back up (and fighting) the witch bounty hunter protagonist, and this fantasy world doesn’t disappoint.
Rachel Aaron’s Heartstrikers series. Yet another modern world transformed by the addition of magic, this world contains a little bit of everything: magic that has broken free and set up camp (and the technology still works), mages and powerful creatures of all kinds, and dragons—only these dragons can take human form. It’s a world where the most magically powerful set the rules, and survival is as dependent upon your allies as it is upon your wits and magic.
These authors’ worlds (and so many more) were my inspiration when I sat down to write my own fantasies based in the real world. Here’s what I created:
A Fistful of Evil and A Fistful of Fire are present-day urban fantasy novels where magic exists, though most people are oblivious, and the protagonist Madison Fox works in an organization whose sole goal is to hunt and kill evil creatures living hidden among normal people. With a unique magic system based on the energy of people’s souls, a diverse mix of allies and enemies pulled straight from my imagination, and a healthy dose of humor, these novels are designed to entertain fantasy readers who like magic mixed in with the modern world.
I hope this list has inspired you to add a few more novels to your to-be-read piles! Let me know if you have any suggestions for me.
Madison Fox survived her first week as California’s newest illuminant enforcer, defending her region against imps, vervet, hounds, and one lascivious demon. If her grumpy boss, Mr. Pitt, was impressed, he hasn’t told Madison. In fact, there’s a lot her boss has been closemouthed about, including the dark secret haunting his past.
But Madison’s problems are just igniting. Neighboring regions report an uncharacteristic flare-up of evil, fire-breathing salamanders blaze unchecked across the city, and Black Friday looms. Trapped doing cleanup amid mobs of holiday shoppers, Madison watches from the sidelines as dubious allies insinuate themselves in her region.
As suspicions kindle and the mysterious evil gains strength, Madison must determine who she can trust—and whose rules to follow—before her region and career go up in flames.
Sizzling with adventure and sparking with magic, A Fistful of Fire is fused with Madison Fox’s trademark blend of humor and ass-kicking action.

“First,” he whispered, “let me help you.” He licked his thumb and ran it across the wound the other vampire had left. A tingling, burning sensation followed his touch, and when I reached up to check the bite, I felt the hard edges of a scab—the kind that shouldn’t be there for days, at least, or maybe longer.
I opened my mouth to ask about it, but Reese shook his head and placed his fingertip across my lips.
My heart stuttered as he bent down and slid his tongue gently across the recent wounds he had created, drawing a line of fire between the two puncture marks. Then he traced another line with his tongue up a little higher on my neck, following the vein. With a sigh, I closed my eyes, and he sank his fangs into me.
It shouldn’t have felt so much like coming home.
Detective Cami Davis and her sexy, cowboy-turned-vampire informant are all that’s standing between humanity and monsters who would rule the world—and all that’s standing between them having a torrid love affair is the fact that he’s an enemy of humanity.
THROUGH DARKEST TEMPTATION
When Dallas police detective Cami Davis joined the city’s vampire unit, she planned to use the job as a stepping-stone to a better position in the department. She didn’t know then what she knows now: A silent war rages between humans and their supposedly pacified predators, and the vampires are winning. With the clock running out on her kind, Cami will do whatever she must to defeat the “Sanguinary.”
Enter Reese Fulton, a disaffected ex-cop and a vampire. She can’t exactly trust him, but with his cowboy boots and good-ole-boy drawl he’s the perfect beard for Cami’s fledgling undercover operation. Yet playing Reese’s Claimed—a vampire’s personal bloodgiver—isn’t as straightforward as she was led to believe. His bite is as enthralling as his dimpled smile, and soon Cami is wondering which will pose more of a challenge: subduing the enemies of humanity…or her own desire.

Guest Post: Meet Becca Layne , Author of New Adult Romance
Meet Becca Layne.

You might already know me as Paloma Beck. I’ve been writing erotic romance since 2012. But now I’m publishing new adult romance under a new pen name… Becca Layne. Actually, this is closer to my “real” name, Rebecca.
I’m excited to introduce some younger characters to readers. With a masters degree in higher education administration, I get to use my in-depth study of college-aged students in my writing. Life between ages 18-24 are the next biggest time of growth aside from the preschool years, and I can’t wait to explore some characters as they discover who they are while finding love for the first time.

The first book -Ivy Intertwined- in my Island Refuge series is scheduled to be released in February 2016. In the meantime, I’m writing a weekly FREE web serial -Ring Around Rosie- that will appear on my tumblr blog, on Wattpad and JukePop. The fun part of writing a web serial is that reader comments help shape each new episode (chapter). It’s more interactive than writing a traditional book in the isolation of my office. Rather than waiting until its complete, I share the story weekly.

Ring Around Rosie will introduce some of the characters in the Island Refuge series.
[BLURB]
Born and bred to become the perfect princess in the Chicago socialite scene, Rosemary’s dream of becoming an artist was cast aside by her demanding family. Until the day when Rosemary had enough. With her trust fund and a car full of belongings, she left her family behind and drove east -as far east as possible- until she found the perfect island to open her jewelry shop. It was also the perfect place to find her own path.
Everything was going along smoothly… and, just maybe, a little lonely… until she meets Erik Thorne.
Raised in his father’s brewery -and always knowing he would inherit the business someday- Erik had it all too easy. Then his reputation as the party boy who refused to grow up eventually caught up with him. Now he owes everything to his brother who was willing to move away and start over somewhere new.
Everything was going along smoothly… and, just maybe, a little boring… until he meets Rosie.

Read the Prologue to Ring Around Rosie.

Spotlight On: Fall into Darkness, by Valerie Twombly
Paranormal Romance
Date Published: November 9, 2015
Eli lives by his own rules and bows to no one, even when summoned before the Tribunal Seven. They deem the hunter has lost his humanity and sentence the angel to earth with one mission: find some compassion or be condemned to Hell.
Ashley considers herself a freak. With one glance into a person’s eyes, she foresees their death. When an attack brings a handsome stranger to her rescue, she can’t help but be drawn to his steel-blue gaze.
Fate will bring them together but desire could bond them for eternity.
EXCERPT
Ashley wandered through Eli’s bedroom, noting how bare it was. Except for a queen four-poster bed, a dresser, and a fireplace, there was nothing else here. She wondered how lonely he must have been to never make a real home in one place. Eva had told her this small cabin in the north woods was always his favorite and that was why she’d asked to be brought here.
After stoking a fire, she donned the short red nightie that hardly covered her breasts and left her long legs exposed. There was no way he could resist, not if he were half as needful as she, and something told her he would be more so. She hoped he’d be so lust ridden he’d complete the bond. Guilt filled her for what she was about to do, but she’d do anything to save him. She’d worry about the aftermath later.
The double-winged tattoo on the back of her hip burned, and she’d learned it meant Eli was close by. Was he watching from a distance? She stepped into the soft light of the fire, knowing it cast a sensual glow across her skin. Yeah, she was pulling out all the stops. A cool breeze whispered across her skin causing her nipples to tighten.
He was here.
She turned, and when her gaze fell upon him standing in the shadows she gasped. His naked chest glistened in the firelight that reflected across the room. A thick rope of muscles coiled just under his skin, and her fingertips itched to touch him. Dark jeans, settled so low on his hips, she could see the dusting of hair that led to his sweet spot. However, it was the massive black wings that stretched out and brushed the ground that really drew her attention. Her fallen angel was dark and sinister, yet every fiber of her being said he’d never harm her. He’d come to her and she was determined to finish what they’d started.
She was determined to save his soul.
“Eli.” She took a step closer.
He flashed a set of fangs. “I’ve never been weak in my entire life, but with you… You are my weakness. Look at me Ashley, I’m one step away from claiming you. Being mated to me will be a fate worse than death.”
Another step. Careful not to scare him off, she stopped short of being able to reach out and touch him. Opening her mind, he could feel everything she did should he choose to. “You’re wrong. Walking away from you would be a worse fate. You’ve touched something deep inside me. Fate brought us together because we need each other.” She took the last step and placed her hands on his chest. He stiffened beneath her touch.
“I need you and I don’t mean just the physical. I mean emotionally as well. You have my heart as well as my body. All of me, it belongs to you.”
His adam’s apple rose and fell then he gripped her waist and tugged her close. He bent his head and slanted his mouth over hers. Sucking her bottom lip through his teeth, he gave a nibble; his fangs gently scraped her sensitive flesh before his tongue slipped inside. She dragged her nails down his chest, and he deepened the kiss. They both became lost in the moment.
Eli broke the kiss and licked his way down her neck and across her clavicle. Ashley tipped her head back on a moan.
“You have on too many clothes,” he whispered.
“Then I suggest you get rid of them,” she urged.
He wasted no time. Gripping the top of her nightie, he ripped it wide open then shoved the satin material off her shoulders and let it drop to the floor. She stood before him, her body bathed in only the firelight.
“You should be laid out on a bed of silk and worshipped. Instead, I tear your clothes from your body.” He unbuttoned his jeans and shoved them to the floor, stepping free from them before he kicked them aside. She started to reach for his erection, but he spun her and pinned her back against the wall. “I can’t stop myself. I’m so damn cold, and I need to feel your warmth wrapped around me.”
“Take what you need.”
