Sunday Update – October 9, 2022
The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimba @ Caffeinated Book Reviewer. It’s a chance to share news. A post to recap the past week, showcase books and things we have received and share news about what is coming up for the week on our blog.
I thought I would update again this past week, but it was just so busy! Besides, it was nice to have Pets in Space 7 at the top of the blog for the week. The anthology is doing really well! It's been under #1000 on Amazon for most of the week and already has over 30 ratings! Thank you to everyone who picked it up. I'm so very happy about its success!
In life news, everything about the week is a blur. I started on edits for The Fate of Shin-Osaka, and I got a lot done there. The story started to really come together by the time I hit the second act. I'm happy with how things are going AND I'm over a day ahead of schedule. Yay!
It was a rainy week. The remnants of Hurricane Ian brought us rain for three days straight. Lulu hates walking in the rain so she was climbing the walls by the time we had blue sky. My kids had off Wednesday for the Jewish holiday (we are not Jewish but this is pretty standard for the area we live in), and then had a no-homework night on Thursday. My husband went into the office on Thursday and stayed in the city for dinner. None of this altered my schedule, though. I still edited every day, got groceries done, got carpooling done, and got the exercising done. All of it done.
In other news, this week I hit a bunch of Peloton milestones. I hit my 104-week streak for 2 years of working out! Yay! I also hit 10k minutes of working out for 2022, AND I got my 600 workout badge in both Strength and Stretching. I'm not working out as much as I did last year because covid kicked my ass this year, but I'm still pushing through. I also finished the Power Zone Pack challenge this week. Next week and onward, I'm on my own. I won't be doing another challenge until spring 2023.

It was so nice to get out and walk once the rain was over. I really enjoyed my walk in the park on Thursday.

Lulu dominated my Instagram stories this week. She was being extra cute and lovable. No complaints from me! (Except that she pooped on the floor earlier this week because she didn't want to go out into the rain to do her business. Not really surprising and doesn't happen often.)

Some Peloton milestones!

I'm going away next weekend with friends to the NY Sheep and Wool festival! I haven't been in like 7 years, and I can't wait to go back. I went into my storage and found a few sweaters I knit ages ago including my February Lady Sweater, pictured here. This sweater is 14 years old! I can't believe I knit this in 2008. It still somewhat fits me too! I think I'm going to get yarn at the festival for another one.

And here's some of the AI art I made this week! I'm enjoying making something each day to go along with the text prompts I found. I'm definitely learning how to ask the AI for the things I want to see. If you want to see the Midjourney and Dall-E prompts for these, head over to my Facebook Page and check out the gallery.
That's it for this week! Stay safe and healthy

Sunday Update – October 2, 2022
The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimba @ Caffeinated Book Reviewer. It’s a chance to share news. A post to recap the past week, showcase books and things we have received and share news about what is coming up for the week on our blog.
People, where did this year go? I can't believe it's October! It feels like January was just yesterday. To be honest, I really like October as a month. I like the cooler, crisper weather with intermittent hot days. I like it when the trees change. I like fall sports and pumpkins and apple picking. June and July are favorite months, but October comes in at a close 3rd place.
This week was busy per usual. We had something going on every day!
On Sunday, I took the girls to get haircuts. We are now scheduled to go every 4 months instead of me forgetting about it and them nagging me until I make the appointment. Monday was a day off for them because of Rosh Hashanah but my youngest still had an optional field hockey practice. Then every night had either field hockey or marching band or BOTH.
This was my week off before starting on The Fate of Shin-Osaka (TFSO, for short) tomorrow so I relaxed quite a bit. I was forced to take a day off from exercise though when my previously broken leg swelled up and became painful for two days right around the plate and screws in my fibula. I don't know why exactly but I suspect it was the super intense Peloton ride I did on Monday. Anyway, I put my leg up, iced it, and rested like I was supposed to. It seems to be fine now, thankfully.
I also started on some projects I had been holding off of. I uploaded my AI audiobooks for the Flyght Series to Kobo, as they allow them now. Yay! I need to update those pages on my website today or tomorrow. I also started on AI audiobooks for my cozy mysteries. Those will take a while as the process is tedious, but I will slowly get them done and then move on to more S. J. Pajonas books.
I'm starting to play around more with AI art too. I have access now to both Midjourney and Dall-E, so I'm going in every day and playing around with it. I will share the images here as I go.
Oh! And sleep has been good. I've fallen into a pretty good bedtime routine and the trazodone is now helping since we increased the dose. I'm getting 7 hours of sleep per night with fewer wakeups. I call that a success. But like every time sleep has gotten better, I expect it to get worse again. The next two weeks in my hormone cycle will be the real test. Fingers crossed it goes okay.

Scenes from the couch. Lol.

The park was looking lovely on Tuesday.

I iced my leg with a bag of edamame for most of the week. I can only hope it doesn't swell up again, but I know that your body is never the same once you put hardware in it.

There's always a system or a method for how I do things because if I don't have a system in place, I forget things. This is why I strongly suspect that I have ADHD and just have learned to deal with it over the years. For example, my eggs. Hard-boiled eggs go to the front and are labeled. Next going backwards are the oldest eggs and newest eggs are always last at the back. My daughter wanted to put the eggs into the carton from my grocery trip and I let her until I realized she doesn't know my system. Lol.

Lulu loves the throw pillows I bought for the couch. She will often nap on them like the Princess and the Pea.

One of my favorite treats is a loaded bowl of ramen. As much as I love Japanese ramen, though, I love Korean ramen even more. Today I took Jin Ramen (mild) and added cauliflower, broccoli, corn, a hard boiled egg, fake surimi crab, and a slice of American cheese. This was so good! And very filling. Now, I can really only do ramen twice a month, but when I do, this is what I go for. Yum. Interestingly enough, this photo and caption got some serious play on Facebook, close to 1000 impressions, which hasn't happened in a long time. People love ramen, apparently!

And finally, here is my first October AI Art Challenge image! The prompt was “Stormy” so I did the following prompt in Midjourney.
a stormy day in a japanese garden. dark clouds. rain. japanese lantern, zen garden. japanese temple. –aspect 9:16 –s 5000 –testp –upbeta
It came out great on the first try! I'm looking forward to playing around with it all each day.
Have a great week everyone! Stay safe and healthy.

October 2022 Goals
September was a busy month, and October will be too! Lots to do!
What happened with September's Goals?Finish The Fate of Shin-Osaka. I DID IT! It's done! Well, the first draft, anyway. But no worries. I know it's really close to the final story and I plan to have it totally done soon.
Post some promo for Pets in Space 7. I've been posting to the blog, Instagram, Facebook, and TikTok!
Get caught up on all my back blog posts. Posted some of these. I'll be working on more in October.
Stay on top of my Duolingo Italian. Been doing this! Only missed two days this whole month, and I used Streak Freezes on those days so I could maintain my streak.
Stick with my new low-sugar diet. This is going well! I eat a little sugar per day, and some days, it's less than others. I will take it.
Continue with my fitness goals. I did well with this until this week when my left leg, the one I broke, started hurting and swelled up. It's better now, but I had to take a few days off.
Reading, TV, and knitting. Done! I've been watching and knitting most days. I started a new book and I've been listening to an audiobook as well.
Make it through this month in one piece. I made it. Just barely. I think I spent more time in my car this month than I did at home.
October GoalsFinish editing The Fate of Shin-Osaka. I plan to buckle down this month and finish this book. Finish it for good. I know what I have to change to make everything coherent, and then it's copy editing and proofreading and off to y'all! I'm going to set a date once I get through copy edits.
Celebrate Pets in Space 7. I plan to have a little celebration for this! Maybe a little champagne or good food. Either way, it's a blessing to be a part of this anthology again.
Get caught up on all my back blog posts. I still have a lot to share in TV and Book Chats. So I hope to get those written and posted before the end of the month.
Spend more time on AI art. I have access to both Midjourney and Dall-E so I would like to make an image each day this month and share the prompt online. I hope to post them to my Sunday Updates.
Stay on top of my Duolingo Italian and Lingo Deer Japanese. I found an app to help me with Japanese called Lingo Deer. So now I'm doing both Italian and Japanese almost every day. I want to stay on top of that.
Finish the audiobook for The Daydreamer Detective. I don't talk much about my cozy mysteries under my pen name here but yeah they still exist. Right now, I'm using Google Play's AI Audio tool to make an audiobook of the first book of the series. If that goes well, I plan to continue and do more of my S. J. Pajonas books too. (I just uploaded my AI audiobooks of the Flyght Series to Kobo.)
Continue with my fitness goals. The Power Zone Pack Challenge is almost over and I did well with it up to this week when my leg flared up. Next week is the last week and after that, I'm in charge of my own fitness. I'm making plans for that now.
Reading, TV, and knitting. The usual here. I plan to finish LOST and move on to something else this month.
That's it for this month! Have a great October everyone!

The Astrology of Myra’s Big Mistake
My love of astrology seems to get into delicious ruts. Water and Earth. This is a combination that I just couldn't let go of when I decided to write Myra's Big Mistake. In the first book of the Kimura Sisters Series, the two main characters were also this sun sign pair, but Suri was the Taurus and Erik was the Pisces. This time I have reversed the pairing and made Myra the Pisces and Nosuké another Earth sign, the Virgo.
Myra KimuraWhen Myra's friends think of her, a few personality quirks come to mind right away. She's creative and imaginative, but she's never on time for anything. She's selfless and always puts her friends and family first, even to the detriment of her sleep and the state of her kitchen. When her best friend Ruby insists on baking cookies, right in the middle of Myra's nap, Myra pulls herself together to accommodate her. Pisces are well known for their adaptive, go-with-the-flow attitudes and Myra has this in spades. When plans change, she shifts without complaint, even when she's waylaid in the middle of the night by overzealous men running an errand for their boss.

Myra's animal pair is a skunk named Mochi. He won her tender heart with his outcast life. She immediately fell for his frank and deferential personality, and they've been quite the team ever since. In fact, it was Mochi who convinced Myra of Nosuké's feelings for her. Mochi's strong observational skills caught the lingering looks right off the bat.

But, of course, Myra didn't believe it at first, and it took a lot of convincing for her to accept Nosuké romantic advancements. In the past, Myra had taken too many comments from previous boyfriends to heart and found herself wounded by love. She's not the most stunning of her sisters with her wild hair and full body, and it's always bothered her. Past lovers had hidden their relationships with her from the public, leading her to feel lonely and rejected. Learning to accept love again is difficult, but Nosuké is the right kind of guy to take on the challenge.
Nosuké MaedaUnfortunately, Nosuké has a bit of a bad reputation, being the son of Noburo Maeda, one of the leading entrepreneurs of Yamato. He's not only one of the wealthiest men on the planet and owns several casinos, but he's also descended from a major yakuza crime family from Earth. Nosuké, though, has a lot of chill and caring Virgo vibes that make him a great suitor. He conscientious, humble, and hard-working. And even though he could literally buy everything on the planet, he's modest and kind.

When he decides he's really ready to woo Myra, he uses his Virgo abilities to the fullest to persuade her to date him. With increased diligence, he sets the stage for multiple run-ins with Myra, both at her home and workplace, until she can't say no to a beautiful meal at one of the most exclusive restaurants in town. From there onward, he uses his logical nature to keep her by his side and in his bed.

Ultimately, these two are attracted to each other for good reason. Virgo provides organization and meticulousness to the relationship. Pisces helps Virgo to take a step back, rest, and let the situation be. They each have something that the other lacks, so together, they make a great pair. Maybe in the future, Virgo's need for perfection will make Pisces's a little frustrated, just like Pisces's fluidity may clash with Virgo's need for structure. But Myra and Nosuké will learn how to make it work.

Sunday Update – September 25, 2022
The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimba @ Caffeinated Book Reviewer. It’s a chance to share news. A post to recap the past week, showcase books and things we have received and share news about what is coming up for the week on our blog.
I have FANTASTIC news! I finished writing The Fate of Shin-Osaka! Yes, I cried. Lol. This is not only the end of a very hard book to write but the end of a series too. Giving my characters the happy ending they deserved was all I wanted to do but getting them there was the hard part. I had left them in such dire straits at the end of the previous book. Whatever had to happen in this book had to be believable and satisfying. I think I achieved that! Anyway, I'm relieved that the first draft is done. I am looking forward to revisions which is where all the magic happens and I make it a complete story full of rich descriptions and emotions. I'm going to take this week off to knit and read and watch TV, and then I will get to it.
In order to finish the book, I had to buckle down every day this week and write write write. This meant that I wrote in the morning before exercise, wrote after exercise, after lunch all afternoon, then after dinner again. Usually, I take some time for some TV or reading, but I didn't do that this week. So I'm a little burned out. But I'm so happy I don't care. Lol.
In family life, we continue to get through each day as best we can. My husband was gone Monday and Tuesday in D. C. for work. He missed our 18th wedding anniversary on Monday, which is fine. I understand that work will get in the way of stuff sometimes. He did send flowers though. I love them even though they arrived a day late. The kids were busy every single night. One kid had marching band Tuesday, Thursday, Friday, and Saturday. The other had field hockey on Monday and Wednesday. Sunday, today, is our only day without obligations but getting haircuts. Busy busy busy.
I am not sleeping well. My doctor gave me trazodone for sleeping and it's only somewhat working. I can't take it on nights I drink alcohol, so I don't take it on Friday or Saturday nights. Still, each day I'm waking at 4AM and having trouble going back to sleep. This morning I woke at 4, tossed and turned to 5:30, and said, screw it. I'm getting up. Here I am writing the Sunday Update at 6:30AM. Ugh. I hate it. I only get 5 hours of sleep every night. It's killing me. More tea please!
Lots of photos this week because I actually remembered to get out my phone and take them!

A story in 6 photos. When my husband is gone, I have to walk Lulu in the evenings. But she doesn't like walking with me anymore. My husband insists that if I “just take her to the park” she will walk with me. Well, I got her to do that twice and now she won't do it anymore. She will only allow me to walk her around the block and then that's it.

Flowers from my husband for our anniversary. The first bouquet was late by a day. He called to complain. They comped it and then, for some reason, sent another set of flowers two days later? We still don't know how that happened. Regardless, we're enjoying the flowers.

It was 3 years ago this week that we got Lulu!

Sunrise and sunset. I see them both a lot lately.

Last week I mentioned that I've been dealing with pantry bugs. I put everything that was open into glass jars and threw away anything they had gotten into. It was a lot of work, but I think I got them all.

I wear a lot of bandanas, either around my neck when I walk or on my head when I'm on the bike. The only problem is getting myself to sit down and fold them all up. I usually wait until I have none left and do it then. Procrastination at its finest.

We went out for crab last Sunday to celebrate our anniversary! It was delicious.

Lulu sometimes demands belly rubs while I'm writing. I'm happy to give them.

I'm glad I was able to watch most of the funeral of Queen Elizabeth II this week. It was touching and quite the historical event.

I've been playing around with Midjourney (AI art) and made this adorable image of Mochi from Myra's Big Mistake. The prompt was “Tiny cute adorable baby black and white skunk, anime eyes, intricate furry details, soft cinematic lighting, 8k, portrait, Pixar style character, pokemon anime style octane render : : –aspect 9:16 –test –creative –upbeta“

Finally, let's celebrate! The Fate of Shin-Osaka is complete!!
That's it for this week. Stay safe and healthy, everyone!

Sunday Update – September 18, 2022
The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimba @ Caffeinated Book Reviewer. It’s a chance to share news. A post to recap the past week, showcase books and things we have received and share news about what is coming up for the week on our blog.
This was an entirely exhausting week, and I'm glad it's over. I barely took any photos this week because I was just shifting from one task to another, getting stuff done, driving kids around, walking dogs, making food, attending doctors' appointments, running errands… and on and on. I waged war with some tiny ant-like pantry bugs for FOUR DAYS. That was FOUR DAYS of cleaning out the pantry, killing bugs, vacuuming, throwing away food, etc. Add to that new a sleep medication, my husband doing jury duty, and new perimenopause signs showing up (hello 3-hour long hot flashes!) and I'm tapped. I barely wrote this week, maybe 2000 words? I don't know. But I want to cry from lack of progress.
You would think that by the time we made it to the weekend I would be happy to put my feet up and relax, but no. Marching Band practice even happens on Saturdays, and then the kids want to go other places too. Last night I just plain ol' refused to take my oldest to a play she wanted to see (it was a last minute thing). She was upset and so was I. I think we need to set some kind of rule about not going anywhere on Saturday and Sunday, or we're all going to burn out really quickly.
I wish I had good news about my writing and books for you. I'm excited to write and to move forward, I am. The fire is burning, but my life is making it hard to harness the energy and get it done. I think that even though The Fate of Shin-Osaka has been a struggle to write, it'll be great once I'm done with it… if I can ever get the time to write on it. And I'm excited to write Ean's story too from the Kimura Sisters. When that will happen? I have no idea. Maybe once fall sports are over? In the winter? Ugh. That feels so far away. Let's hope it's sooner.

Lulu being cute as always.

Cookie's last day here was Friday. She was a good dog and we enjoyed having her in the house. But this time with two dogs taught us that we are not a two-dog household. It's WAY too much dog. Lol. It was exhausting having to do all the walks twice because the two of them could not walk at the same pace. And Lulu is very aloof when it comes to other dogs. I think she sniffed Cookie two or three times total the whole two weeks Cookie was here. Otherwise, their time together was like it's pictured here in this photo. They spent time apart and didn't interact at all. Anyway, my parents returned from Italy late Friday night (their flight was delayed due to an airport strike in France), took Cookie, and left. I spent most of yesterday vacuuming the house and getting rid of all the Cookie hair. Lol.

I can't believe how much food and flours I had to throw away because of these pantry ants! It was awful. They just kept coming and coming, and I kept finding them in the most random stuff. But I have ordered giant mason jars from Amazon that are coming today and a lot of our open flours are going into them. From now on, anytime we open a package of flour, it goes into a mason jar. That's it.

We went out for Indian food last Sunday and stuffed ourselves silly with curries and dosas. It was so good. We're going out for crab tonight because tomorrow is our wedding anniversary. My husband will unfortunately be in D. C. for our anniversary tomorrow, so we'll celebrate tonight.
Have a great week everyone! Stay safe and healthy.

The Songs of Pets in Space 7Myra's Big Mistake
by S. J. Pajonas
This song calls back to old times and summer drives in sun. Myra is always thinking back on her life, but Nosuké just wants to be in the here-and-now, enjoying her presence.
“It All Feels Right” by Washed Out
Wynter and the Stone Dragon
by S.E. Smith
Khalid thinks he's dreaming when the woman he almost thought he made up in his dreams suddenly reappears. Reality is even better…
“Don't Wake Me” by Love and Theft
Death Angel
by Kyndra Hatch
This is such an introspective song. It makes me think of Vonda as she floats through the nebula of Sanctuary when she’s on the verge of death.
Liquid Courage
by Winnie Winkle
This is a fun, campy sci-fi romp, and I loved it so much I named my cat Mo-Dean.
“Is That You, Mo-Dean” by the B-52s
Written in the Stars
by Leslie Chase
This entered my writing playlist for Written in the Stars, and I fell in love with it. Energetic, fun, I enjoyed it a lot and it helped me write faster.
“The Cat from Outer Space” by Alienatic
Alien Abduction for Unicorns
by Skye MacKinnon
A modern twist on bagpipes and the kind of song Tara would hear playing in the castle’s gift shop. Author’s side note: I went to a Red Hot Chili Pipers concert in Stirling and a piper’s kilt flew up while they danced around on stage… I shan’t tell you what he wore underneath.
“We Will Rock You” performed by Red Hot Chilli Pipers
Rhea's Conundrum
by Candace Colt
Rhea is airy-fairy, full of whimsy, and eternally optimistic. This song is so Rhea!
An Entanglement of Griffins
by Carol Van Natta
I love the vulnerable hope in this song, with the longing to be helped and healed by the person you've fallen in love with. The griffins need safe places to soar, almost as much as the main characters, Lark and Pim, do.
Complete PlaylistTo make it easy for you to go on a musical ride through the galaxy, we've posted the complete playlist for you on the Pets in Space Books YouTube channel.

Book Chat #77 – Books By Brigid Kemmerer, Jessie Mihalik, and Julia Quinn
Here are four recent books that I read over my summer break! There are more to come too. I have a backlog of books I've read that I need to post about.

Defy the Night by Brigid Kemmerer (ebook)
I held onto this one from last year so that I could read it over the summer, which is something I seem to do with Brigid's books. I enjoyed getting into a new fantasy world here, one with a big problem and even bigger issues with the solutions. Though this is an enemies-to-lovers story at heart, it also had a great deal of in-world politics, scheming, and adventure — all things I love in a good book. Once again, Brigid writes fantasy books that I can get into. She makes them kind-of Earth-adjacent with not a lot of elements that will trip me up and pull me out of the story. It's definitely more my speed. I raced through this one and immediately ordered the second book which comes out soon! I'm looking forward to reading it.

Forging Silver Into Stars by Brigid Kemmerer (ebook)
I went straight from one Brigid book to another and that was not a mistake. This one is the start of a new series but it's set in the same universe as her previous Cursebreaker series, all of which I have read. I liked this one for its parallel stories, both of Jax and Callyn. Jax's story had a tender LGBTQ+ storyline that was sweet and powerful. Callyn's story told of trust and confidence. The two come together in the end with a great battle. I raced through this book too, and I didn't want it to end. Once again, it was just enough fantasy for me with a little magic and nothing too far-fetched. This one ticked all the boxes for me!

Eclipse the Moon by Jessie Mihalik (ebook)
I had been eagerly awaiting this book since reading the first in the series. This one focused on hacker Kee and grumpy Varro, two protagonists I wanted to learn more about. It was obvious after a few chapters that I was going to identify with Kee to my very soul. She does a lot of things that I do, and I wonder every day if I have ADHD because I think she does. We both set timers for everything or we would forget. We both can become so engrossed in a task we'll forget to eat or miss an important deadline. We both love tech and digging up information. I loved Kee and how she was super aware of her feelings. I also tend to cry if I'm confronted. Lol. We have a lot in common. Anyway, the story itself was great. Full of twists and turns and adventure with a great romance. Jessie Mihalik writes books I love to read, space opera romance to the core.

The Viscount Who Loved Me by Julia Quinn (audiobook)
Another Bridgerton book down! Plenty more to go! Unfortunately, every time I see the title of this book I start singing The Spy Who Loved Me in my head. I wish that would stop. Anyway, after watching the second season of the Netflix show, this was a good follow-up and gave me a deeper appreciation for Anthony and the way he was. The poor bloke had a lot riding on him, the fate of his family being his cross to bear. The story line was somewhat different from the show, but that was fine. I could see why and where things diverged. It was still good. Lots of fun sarcasm and tongue-in-cheek humor too that made me laugh. I'm definitely going to be continuing on with this series!
And that's it for this Book Chat! Have you read any of these? Let me know in the comments!
