BLOGGITY BLOG

If only I had more time to blog I would understand why. I know we live in an age of modern technology outstripping it`s latest achievements in minutes rather than hours . I get all that. I understand that writers must blog especially if they self publish like yours truly. I understand that social networking is essential for writers to reach readers. What I don`t quite get is that a fair number of people read my blogs. Given that I`m a writer and blog mostly about my books the the feedback on the blog effort is minimal to non-existent. I promise I do not bite. Nor do I quiz people to try to find out if they read my books, will read my books, would ever consider reading my books or buying a book simply for the pleasure of getting a bit of peace from authors who are also blog writers. What I always seem to be left with is this question. Why is blogging so important? Is it an entity on it`s own? Do people search for blogs to read and then forget them immediately? Do they have blog libraries and if so am I in one of them somewhere? Is it filed away under Liam Leddy or simply the title of that particular blog? Where did the word blog come from? Do blog readers read them simply because they are blogs and they are there, And although I don`t quite why I still know blogs are very important for any self published author. If you think I`m simply nuts please tell me. It`s important

BEING UNREASONABLE

Not my quote. Erich Von Danniken`s. Not every anomaly can be reasoned out. The great thing about life is not that people are proved right. It is that people are daily proved to be wrong! What point would there be to an existence when only a few of life`s "intelligentsia" had to be believed constantly. If everything that we "know" to be correct today couldn`t be proved incorrect tomorrow. I love the idea that certain things cannot be explained away easily in this 24 hour timeslot. However it might well be that that is what happens tomorrow. That is why I write my novels and short story collections with so many twists and turns and unforeseen endings. Without being unreasonable I couldn`t be a crime fiction writer. Oh **** ! I`ve just agreed with lots of people who think I`m unreasonable on a day to day basis anyway.

EASY???

Aye right. I write. Sounds simple to those who don`t do it perhaps.. The many requirements of self publishing can or could be all consuming if all done correctly all of the time which is impossible. I do my best! Simply because to do all of these things correctly even part of the time would not only drive me nuts-and has nearly done on occasion- it would leave you no time to write anything which defeats the whole purpose of what I set out to in the first place. Write crime fiction novels and short story collections. That`s it
Firstly with a great deal of hard work, highs, lows and muttered profanities you have written something legible that you yourself are satisfied with. Vitally important that little bit at the end. You polish it -not literally of course That would be both unnecessary and very silly- and then you put it on to every self publishing outlet that will have it. You spend as much time as possible on social media telling anyone who might read said social media you have done so. You have written something!.Then you repeat the process . You write as much as possible. Then you find print outlets in addition to E-book outlets. Then comes the other 50%-really the 100%- of writing your book(s) The most important thing other than the writing is the reading. All writers have a need to be read. By anybody.
You need to find readers. That too is a constant process. And all you really want is the writing and the reading and the odd kind word or pat on the head like a well behaved spaniel. Writers don`t ask for a lot really. However they do work hard. I know there`s something I`ve not included about writing requirements. Oh aye that`s it
Writers have to blog regularly.

LIBRARIES

I can think of no good reason why all my books are not in libraries everywhere. I would say that of course as I wrote them. I am sure that librarians everywhere will give me many valid reasons why they disagree with that sweeping statement. All I will say in my defence is this. Every library they are in at the moment will vouch that my books go out on loan very regularly indeed. These libraries include Glasgow`s Mitchell-and therefore all of Glasgow- and South Lanarkshire Libraries -Hamilton, Blantyre, East Kilbride and so on.
They are authentic Glasgow 60`s/70`s crime fiction novels and short story collections. Glaswegians, of a certain age, are my prime target audience agreed. However what about ex-pats, Scots in general and those readers who simply like crime fiction in general and may well welcome a new setting not to mention a new author . A diaspara. I put that in just because I like the word

NO CONTEST

When it comes to choice of reading material the reader always knows best. The choice of reading material -fiction, non-fiction, mystery, romance, horror, supernatural,.fantasy or whatever is entirely up to the individual concerned . So too is the manner of reading their chosen genres.
The recent figures concerning print books therefore delighted me. Just as much as it would have done if the news had been the reverse and the E-book figures were still the "in thing" and affecting print sales. I have always given my readers the choice. Read my books in print through Lulu, Amazon Createspace, Barnes & Noble, etc etc. Similarly choose Amazon Kindle , Nook, Apple, or any android. I just don`t accept that there should be any difference between the reader`s choice of method of reading their favourite authors.
Whenever reading by telepathy becomes available I will be first in line to make my books available to you but then you knew that before I wrote this right?

LEAP OF FAITH

I believe in myself. When all`s said and done I suggest that I know myself better than I know anyone else and better than anyone else knows me. I believe in my work and I know that even because oftentimes writing can be an extremely thankless task I love doing it. Long periods of frustration , apparent -and I stress apparent- lack of interest in my writing by anyone other than myself, losing the plot both figuratively and literally , and endless self publishing and marketing of said books.
At the end of the day it can be tiring , can be full of disappointment or encouragement depending on sales and general interest from readers, and with another day ended of constant social media blogging and marketing a sudden realisation that you really have to grab a coffee, a fag, and finish that chapter that need to be finished. So you right three if the writing flows.
And guess what? That tiredness and feeling of loneliness and disillusionment is replaced by a fully replenished self confidence, a familiar feeling of accomplishment, enjoyment, and lack of tiredness both mental and physical.
And I realise afresh that I write and self publish because I love the job. It`s what I do. I will get there wherever "there" ends up being!

WRITING LIKE READING

It`s the sincerest form of flattery they say. Imitation. I disagree. I neither imitate nor flatter
What I try my utmost to do is to write fiction of the kind I love to read. Glasgow crime fiction novels and short story collections full of twists, turns and endings so unforeseen that try as you may you cannot forget them. And hopefully the name of the author who wrote them.
All my books both novels are written in the same writing style. Different plots different surroundings different dialect and dialogue. Yes. Different style? No.
Formulaic? Yes. I want readers to know what they will always get when they read one of my books. From the first sentence to the last

SORRY

Hi everyone
It`s been far too long since I blogged on Goodreads
This year I`ve been writing my third novel in the 60`s Glasgow "Lassiter"crime fiction series Not finished yet and provisionally titled However I may yet change the title so I won`t reveal it
Other than that I`ve been very, very busy with the exposure side. My books are now available as e-books with Kindle Smashwords Nook Google Books E-pub Mobi Kobo and so forth. In print with Amazon Createspace Authorhouse Barnes & Noble I would appreciate much more assistance in the way of exposure avenues , marketing channels and anything related to publicising my books.
I will personally deal and reply to any of those
The blog title I feel is self explanatory but at least I have had reason for not blogging sooner.
The older I get the more I apologise for my memory loss in any case. Not long term fortunately or I couldn`t write 60`s Glasgow crime fiction.Short term only so please don`t ask me what I did yesterday. It`s gone Sorry
Best
Liam
