Death Sets Sail Arvon Event

I’ve heard great feedback for my Waterstones event yesterday – if you came along, thank you so much! (Some of you were struggling to log on at first, and I’m sorry about that – but Waterstones will be sharing video of the event for everyone who got tickets, so you’ll be able to watch the bits you missed!)

If you couldn’t come to that event, I have another event coming up next week – a live Q&A and reading in partnership with the Arvon Foundation’s Arvon at Home programme on Tuesday 11th August at 4pm. You can book tickets NOW – they’re £3 per screen – and I hope as many of you as possible will log on!

Remember that there are also free events coming up for those of you who aren’t able to come to paid events – I’m appearing with Sharna Jackson at the Edinburgh Festival later this month, and more events will be announced soon!

Happy publication day to Death Sets Sail – I read the first chapter!

Today’s the day! Death Sets Sail is OFFICIALLY out now – and it’s been amazing and overwhelming and just wonderful to see it reaching fans. It’s so special to hear from you about why you love the series and what it’s meant to you over the years. So if you’ve sent me a message or email, thank you so much!

Because it’s publication day, I’m sharing a video of me reading from the first chapter of Death Sets Sail. But beware … the first chapter contains the first SPOILER! So watch … if you dare!

I’m very excited to announce that Death Sets Sail is Blackwell’s Children’s Book of the Month for August!

Death Sets Sail: SPOILER POST! DO NOT READ UNTIL YOU HAVE READ THE BOOK!

DO NOT READ THIS POST UNTIL YOU HAVE FINISHED READING DEATH SETS SAIL! Thank you.

Hello Detectives! Today is the launch date for Death Sets Sail in Australia and New Zealand – and I know that some British and Irish fans have already got their copies too! (This is just because sometimes stores get stock a few days early and send pre-orders out to fans then – so don’t worry if your book hasn’t arrived yet, or if you’re waiting to visit a bookstore on the 6th to pick up your copy). That means only one thing … some of you will have FINISHED the book, and if you have I’d love to hear what you thought of it!

I’ve created a special post for this because I really want to keep what happens in this book secret for anyone who hasn’t yet read it – but I know that if you’ve finished it you’ll be DESPERATE to talk about it!

The rules:

Don’t comment here until you have FINISHED DEATH SETS SAIL. I can’t stress enough how much you need to keep on reading until the last page before you post here! If you want to read the book through with a friend and discuss it offline, that’s fine, but don’t do it here, because you’ll end up seeing spoilers for bits you haven’t got to yet!Don’t read the comments until you have FINISHED DEATH SETS SAIL if you don’t want to be totally spoiled for the ending. If you do you only have yourself to blame! It’s fine if you disagree with another fan, or if you don’t like something I’ve done in the book. But please be nice to each other! Any comment that I think breaks this rule will be removed immediately.

And that’s it! I really hope you did enjoy Death Sets Sail. It was a rollercoaster of a book to write – and fingers crossed that’s how you felt as you read it!

Writing Prompt Mondays: Prompt 19

Your writing prompt responses last week were disastrous in the best way, Detectives! I particularly enjoyed Evez’s prom night earthquake, Astrophysics’ terrifying story, Xydel’s tsunami story, Colette’s domestic disaster and Iona’s Clydesbank Blitz story.

This is an extremely exciting week – not only is it PUBLICATION WEEK FOR DEATH SETS SAIL, but two days ago I was finally able to reveal the news that I’ve been keeping secret for almost a year: my Murder Most Unladylike series may be coming to an end, but my Ministry of Unladylike Activity series is just beginning!… Read more

Guardian interview: Death Sets Sail and The Ministry of Unladylike Activity!

I’m absolutely honoured and thrilled to be the subject of a long interview in the Guardian today! Justine Jordan spoke to me last month about ending the Murder Most Unladylike series, looking forward to The Ministry of Unladylike Activity and why I think writing for children is so important – you can read the whole article online here!… Read more

Announcement: The Ministry of Unladylike Activity is coming in 2022!

Hello Detectives! A lot of you have been asking me what I’m going to do after Murder Most Unladylike. Some of you were even worried that I might stop being an author now this series is finished!

Until now, all I’ve been able to do is reassure you that I do know what I’m doing next, and I am absolutely not going to stop writing books.… Read more
